1Hiram, rey de Tiro, envió mensajero a David, y maderas de cedro, y también albañiles y carpinteros, para edificarle una casa. Also, Hiram, the king of Tyre, sent messengers to David, and cedar wood, and artisans of walls and of wood, so that they might build a house for him.2Y conoció David que Yahvé había confirmado su reinado sobre Israel, porque (Dios) había ensalzado su dignidad real por amor de Israel su pueblo. And David realized that the Lord had confirmed him as king over Israel, and that his kingdom had been lifted up over his people Israel.3Tomó David otras mujeres en Jerusalén, y engendró más hijos e hijas. Also, David took other wives in Jerusalem. And he conceived sons and daughters.4He aquí los nombres de los hijos que tuvo en Jerusalén: Samúa, Sobab, Natán, Salomón, And these are the names of those who were born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua and Shobab, Nathan and Solomon,5Ibhar, Elisúa, Elpélet, Ibhar, and Elishua, and Elpelet,6Noga, Náfeg, Jafía, as well as Nogah, and Nepheg, and Japhia,7Elisamá, Baaliadá y Elifélet. Elishama, and Beeliada, and Eliphelet.8Cuando los filisteos oyeron que David había sido ungido rey sobre Israel entero, todos los filisteos subieron en busca de David. Mas David lo supo y les salió al paso. Then, hearing that David had been anointed as king over all of Israel, all the Philistines ascended so that they might seek him. But when David had heard of it, he went out to meet them.9Llegaron los filisteos y se extendieron en el valle de Refaím. Now the Philistines, arriving, spread out in the Valley of the Rephaim.10Entonces David consultó a Dios, preguntando: “¿Subiré contra los filisteos? ¿Los entregarás en mi mano?” Y Yahvé le respondió: “Sube, pues Yo los entregaré en tu mano”. And so David consulted the Lord, saying, “Shall I ascend to the Philistines, and will you deliver them into my hand?” And the Lord said to him, “Ascend, and I will deliver them into your hand.”11Y subieron a Baal-Ferasim, donde David los derrotó. Dijo entonces David: “Dios ha quebrantado a mis enemigos por mi mano, como las aguas rompen (los diques) y por eso aquel lugar se llamó Baal-Ferasim.” And when they had ascended to Baal-perazim, David struck them there, and he said: “God has divided my enemies by my hand, just as waters are divided.” And therefore the name of that place was called Baal-perazim.12Dejaron allí sus dioses, que por orden de David fueron arrojados al fuego. And they left behind their gods in that place, and so David ordered them to be burned.13Otra vez invadieron los filisteos el valle, And then, at another time, the Philistines invaded, and they spread out in the valley.14y David volvió a consultar a Dios, el cual le contestó: “No subas tras de ellos; aléjate de ellos, para acometerlos desde el lado de las balsameras. And again, David consulted God. And God said to him: “You shall not ascend after them. Draw away from them. And you shall come against them opposite the balsam trees.15Y cuando oigas el ruido de pasos por las copas de las balsameras, saldrás a la batalla, porque Dios va marchando delante de ti para derrotar el campamento de los filisteos.” And when you hear a sound approaching in the tops of the balsam trees, then you shall go forth to war. For God has gone forth before you, so that he may strike down the army of the Philistines.”16David hizo como le había mandado Dios; y derrotaron el campamento de los filisteos desde Gabaón hasta Géser. Therefore, David did just as God had instructed him. And he struck down the army of the Philistines, from Gibeon as far as Gazera.17La fama de David se extendió sobre todos los países, pues Yahvé le hizo temible para todos los gentiles. And the name of David became well-known in all the regions. And the Lord placed the fear of him over all the nations.
