1 Corintios 8
1En cuanto a las carnes ofrecidas a los ídolos, sabemos que todos tenemos ciencia. Pero la ciencia infla, en tanto que la caridad edifica. Now concerning those things that are sacrificed to idols: we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but charity builds up.2Si alguno se imagina que sabe algo, nada sabe todavía como se debe saber. But if anyone considers himself to know anything, he does not yet know in the way that he ought to know.3Pero si uno ama a Dios, ese es de Él conocido. For if anyone loves God, he is known by him.4Ahora bien, respecto del comer las carnes ofrecidas a los ídolos, sabemos que ningún ídolo en el mundo existe (realmente), y que no hay Dios sino Uno. But as to the foods that are immolated to idols, we know that an idol in the world is nothing, and that no one is God, except One.5Porque aunque haya algunos que se llamen dioses, sea en el cielo, sea en la tierra —de esta clase hay muchos “dioses” y “señores”—. For although there are things that are called gods, whether in heaven or on earth, (if one even considers there to be many gods and many lords)6Mas para nosotros no hay sino un solo Dios, el Padre, de quien vienen todas las cosas, y para quien somos nosotros; y un solo Señor, Jesucristo, por quien son todas las cosas, y por quien somos nosotros. yet we know that there is only one God, the Father, from whom all things are, and in whom we are, and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom all things are, and by whom we are.7Mas no en todos hay esta ciencia; sino que algunos, acostumbrados hasta ahora a los ídolos, comen esas carnes como ofrecidas antes a los ídolos, y su conciencia, débil como es, queda contaminada. But knowledge is not in everyone. For some persons, even now, with consent to an idol, eat what has been sacrificed to an idol. And their conscience, being infirm, becomes polluted.8Pero no es el alimento lo que nos recomienda a Dios; ni somos menos si no comemos, ni somos más si comemos. Yet food does not commend us to God. For if we eat, we will not have more, and if we do not eat, we will not have less.9Cuidad, empero de que esta libertad vuestra no sirva de tropiezo para los débiles. But be careful not to let your liberty become a cause of sin to those who are weak.10Pues si alguno te viere a ti, que tienes ciencia, sentado a la mesa en lugar idolátrico, ¿no será inducida su conciencia, débil como es, a comer de las carnes ofrecidas a los ídolos? For if anyone sees someone with knowledge sitting down to eat in idolatry, will not his own conscience, being infirm, be emboldened to eat what has been sacrificed to idols?11Y así por tu ciencia perece el débil, el hermano por quien Cristo murió. And should an infirm brother perish by your knowledge, even though Christ died for him?12Pecando de esta manera contra los hermanos, e hiriendo su conciencia que es flaca, contra Cristo pecáis. So when you sin in this way against the brothers, and you harm their weakened conscience, then you sin against Christ.13Por lo cual, si el manjar escandaliza a mi hermano, no comeré yo carne nunca jamás, para no escandalizar a mi hermano. Because of this, if food leads my brother to sin, I will never eat meat, lest I lead my brother to sin.
