1 Corintios 9
1¿No soy yo libre? ¿No soy yo apóstol? ¿No he visto a Jesús nuestro Señor? ¿No sois vosotros mi obra en el Señor? Am I not free? Am I not an Apostle? Have I not seen Christ Jesus our Lord? Are you not my work in the Lord?2Si para otros no soy apóstol, a lo menos para vosotros lo soy; porque el sello de mi apostolado sois vosotros en el Señor. And if I am not an Apostle to others, yet still I am to you. For you are the seal of my Apostleship in the Lord.3Esta es mi defensa contra los que me juzgan. My defense with those who question me is this:4¿No tenemos acaso derecho a comer y beber? Do we not have the authority to eat and to drink?5¿No tenemos derecho de llevar con nosotros una hermana, una mujer, como los demás apóstoles, y los hermanos del Señor, y Cefas? Do we not have the authority to travel around with a woman who is a sister, just as do the other Apostles, and the brothers of the Lord, and Cephas?6¿O es que solo yo y Bernabé no tenemos derecho a no trabajar? Or is it only myself and Barnabas who do not have the authority to act in this way?7¿Quién jamás sirve en la milicia a sus propias expensas? ¿Quién planta una viña y no come su fruto? ¿O quién apacienta un rebaño y no se alimenta de la leche del rebaño? Who has ever served as a soldier and paid his own stipend? Who plants a vineyard and does not eat from its produce? Who pastures a flock and does not drink from the milk of the flock?8¿Por ventura digo esto según el sentir de los hombres? ¿No lo dice también la Ley? Am I saying these things according to man? Or does the law not also say these things?9Pues escrito está en la Ley de Moisés: “No pondrás bozal al buey que trilla”. ¿Es que Dios se ocupa (aquí) de los bueyes? For it is written in the law of Moses: “You shall not bind the mouth of an ox, while it is treading out the grain.” Is God here concerned with the oxen?10¿O lo dice principalmente por nosotros? Sí, porque a causa de nosotros fue escrito que el que ara debe arar con esperanza, y el que trilla, con esperanza de tener su parte. Or is he saying this, indeed, for our sake? These things were written specifically for us, because he who plows, ought to plow in hope, and he who threshes, too, in hope of receiving the produce.11Si nosotros hemos sembrado en vosotros los bienes espirituales ¿será mucho que recojamos de vosotros cosas temporales? If we have sown spiritual things in you, is it important if we harvest from your worldly things?12Si otros tienen este derecho sobre vosotros ¿no con más razón nosotros? Sin embargo, no hemos hecho uso de este derecho; antes bien, todo lo sufrimos, para no poner obstáculo alguno al Evangelio de Cristo. If others are sharers in this authority over you, why are we not more entitled? And yet we have not used this authority. Instead, we bear all things, lest we give any hindrance to the Gospel of Christ.13¿No sabéis que los que desempeñan funciones sagradas, viven del Templo, y los que sirven al altar, del altar participan? Do you not know that those who work in the holy place eat the things that are for the holy place, and that those who serve at the altar also share with the altar?14Así también ha ordenado el Señor que los que anuncian el Evangelio, vivan del Evangelio. So, too, has the Lord ordained that those who announce the Gospel should live by the Gospel.15Yo, por mi parte, no me he aprovechado de nada de eso; ni escribo esto para que se haga así conmigo; porque mejor me fuera morir antes que nadie me prive de esta mi gloria. Yet I have used none of these things. And I have not written so that these things may be done for me. For it is better for me to die, rather than to let anyone empty out my glory.16Porque si predico el Evangelio no tengo ninguna gloria, ya que me incumbe hacerlo por necesidad; pues ¡ay de mí, si no predicare el Evangelio! For if I preach the Gospel, it is not glory for me. For an obligation has been laid upon me. And woe to me, if I do not preach the Gospel.17Si hago esto voluntariamente tengo galardón; mas si por fuerza (para eso) me ha sido confiada mayordomía. For if I do this willingly, I have a reward. But if I do this reluctantly, a dispensation is granted to me.18¿Cuál es pues mi galardón? Que predicando el Evangelio hago sin cargo el Evangelio, por no (exponerme a) abusar de mi potestad en el Evangelio. And what, then, would be my reward? So, when preaching the Gospel, I should give the Gospel without taking, so that I may not misuse my authority in the Gospel.19Porque libre de todos, a todos me esclavicé, por ganar un mayor número. For when I was a free man to all, I made myself the servant of all, so that I might gain all the more.20Y me hice: para los judíos como judío, por ganar a los judíos; para los que están bajo la Ley, como sometido a la Ley, no estando yo bajo la Ley, por ganar a los que están bajo la Ley; And so, to the Jews, I became like a Jew, so that I might gain the Jews.21para los que están fuera de la Ley, como si estuviera yo fuera de la Ley —aunque no estoy fuera de la Ley de Dios, sino bajo la Ley de Cristo— por ganar a los que están sin Ley, To those who are under the law, I became as if I were under the law, (though I was not under the law) so that I might gain those who were under the law. To those who were without the law, I became as if I were without the law, (though I was not without the law of God, being in the law of Christ) so that I might gain those who were without the law.22Con los débiles me hice débil, por ganar a los débiles; me he hecho todo para todos, para de todos modos salvar a algunos. To the weak, I became weak, so that I might gain the weak. To all, I became all, so that I might save all.23Todo lo hago por el Evangelio, para tener parte en él. And I do everything for the sake of the Gospel, so that I may become its partner.24¿No sabéis que en el estadio los corredores corren todos, pero uno solo recibe el premio? Corred, pues, de tal modo que lo alcancéis. Do you not know that, of those who run in a race, all of them, certainly, are runners, but only one achieves the prize. Similarly, you must run, so that you may achieve.25Y todo el que entra en la liza se modera en todo; ellos para ganar una corona corruptible, y nosotros, en cambio, por una incorruptible. And one who competes in a contest abstains from all things. And they do this, of course, so that they may achieve a corruptible crown. But we do this, so that we may achieve what is incorruptible.26Yo, por tanto, corro así, no como al azar; así lucho, no como quien hiere el aire; And so I run, but not with uncertainty. And so I fight, but not by flailing in the air.27sino que castigo mi cuerpo y lo esclavizo; no sea que, habiendo predicado a los demás, yo mismo resulte descalificado. Instead, I chastise my body, so as to redirect it into servitude. Otherwise, I might preach to others, but become myself an outcast.
