1Hijitos míos, esto os escribo para que no cometáis pecado. Mas si alguno hubiere pecado, abogado tenemos ante el Padre: a Jesucristo el Justo. My little sons, this I write to you, so that you may not sin. But if anyone has sinned, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ, the Just One.2Él mismo es la propiciación por nuestros pecados, y no solo por los nuestros, sino también por los de todo el mundo. And he is the propitiation for our sins. And not only for our sins, but also for those of the whole world.3Y en esto sabemos si le conocemos: si guardamos sus mandamientos. And we can be sure that we have known him by this: if we observe his commandments.4Quien dice que le ha conocido y no guarda sus mandamientos, es un mentiroso, y la verdad no está en él; Whoever claims that he knows him, and yet does not keep his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.5mas quienquiera guarda su palabra, verdaderamente el amor de Dios es en él perfecto. En esto conocemos que estamos en Él. But whoever keeps his word, truly in him the charity of God is perfected. And by this we know that we are in him.6Quien dice que permanece en Él debe andar de la misma manera que Él anduvo. Whoever declares himself to remain in him, ought to walk just as he himself walked.7Amados, no os escribo un mandamiento nuevo, sino un mandamiento antiguo que teníais desde el principio. Este mandamiento antiguo es la palabra que habéis oído. Most beloved, I am not writing to you a new commandment, but the old commandment, which you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the Word, which you have heard.8Por otra parte lo que os escribo es también un mandamiento nuevo, que se ha verificado en Él mismo y en vosotros; porque las tinieblas van pasando, y ya luce la luz verdadera. Then too, I am writing to you a new commandment, which is the Truth in him and in you. For the darkness has passed away, and the true Light is now shining.9Quien dice que está en la luz, y odia a su hermano, sigue hasta ahora en tinieblas, Whoever declares himself to be in the light, and yet hates his brother, is in the darkness even now.10El que ama a su hermano, permanece en la luz, y no hay en él tropiezo. Whoever loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause of offense in him.11Pero el que odia a su hermano, está en las tinieblas, y camina en tinieblas, y no sabe adónde va, por cuanto las tinieblas le han cegado los ojos. But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness, and in darkness he walks, and he does not know where he is going. For the darkness has blinded his eyes.12Os escribo, hijitos, que vuestros, pecados os han sido perdonados por su nombre. I am writing to you, little sons, because your sins are forgiven for the sake of his name.13A vosotros, padres, os escribo que habéis conocido a Aquel que es desde el principio. A vosotros, jóvenes, os escribo que habéis vencido al maligno. I am writing to you, fathers, because you have known him who is from the beginning. I am writing to you, adolescents, because you have overcome the evil one.14A vosotros, niños, os escribo que habéis conocido al Padre. A vosotros, padres, os escribo que habéis conocido a Aquel que es desde el principio. A vosotros, jóvenes, os escribo que, morando en vosotros la Palabra de Dios, sois fuertes y habéis vencido al Maligno. I am writing to you, little children, because you have known the Father. I am writing to you, young men, because you are strong, and the Word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one.15No améis al mundo ni las cosas que hay en el mundo. Si alguno ama al mundo, el amor del Padre no está en él. Do not choose to love the world, nor the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the charity of the Father is not in him.16Porque todo lo que hay en el mundo, la concupiscencia de la carne, la concupiscencia de los ojos y la soberbia de la vida, no es del Padre sino del mundo. For all that is in the world is the desire of the flesh, and the desire of the eyes, and the arrogance of a life which is not of the Father, but is of the world.17Y el mundo, con su concupiscencia, pasa, mas el que hace la voluntad de Dios permanece para siempre. And the world is passing away, with its desire. But whoever does the will of God abides unto eternity.18Hijitos, es hora final y, según habéis oído que viene el Anticristo, así ahora muchos se han hecho anticristos, por donde conocemos que es la última hora. Little sons, it is the last hour. And, as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have arrived. By this, we know that it is the last hour.19De entre nosotros han salido, mas no eran de los nuestros, pues si de los nuestros fueran, habrían permanecido con nosotros. Pero es para que se vea claro que no todos son de los nuestros. They went out from among us, but they were not of us. For, if they had been of us, certainly they would have remained with us. But in this way, it is made manifest that none of them are of us.20Mas vosotros tenéis la unción del Santo y sabéis todo. Yet you have the anointing of the Holy One, and you know everything.21No os escribo porque ignoréis la verdad, sino porque la conocéis y porque de la verdad no procede ninguna mentira. I have not written to you as to ones who are ignorant of the truth, but as to ones who know the truth. For no lie is of the truth.22¿Quién es el mentiroso sino el que niega que Jesús es el Cristo? Ese es el Anticristo que niega al Padre y al Hijo. Who is a liar, other than he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This one is the Antichrist, who denies the Father and the Son.23Quienquiera niega al Hijo tampoco tiene al Padre; quien confiesa al Hijo tiene también al Padre. No one who denies the Son also has the Father. Whoever confesses the Son, also has the Father.24Lo que habéis oído desde el principio permanezca en vosotros. Si en vosotros permanece lo que oísteis desde el principio, también vosotros permaneceréis en el Hijo y en el Padre. As for you, let what you have heard from the beginning remain in you. If what you have heard from the beginning remains in you, then you, too, shall abide in the Son and in the Father.25Y esta es la promesa que Él nos ha hecho: la vida eterna. And this is the Promise, which he himself has promised to us: Eternal Life.26Esto os escribo respecto de los que quieren extraviaros. I have written these things to you, because of those who would seduce you.27En vosotros, empero, permanece la unción que de Él habéis recibido, y no tenéis necesidad de que nadie os enseñe. Mas como su unción os enseña todo, y es verdad y no mentira, permaneced en Él, como ella os ha instruido. But as for you, let the Anointing that you have received from him abide in you. And so, you have no need of anyone to teach you. For his Anointing teaches you about everything, and it is the truth, and it is not a lie. And just as his Anointing has taught you, abide in him.28Ahora, pues, hijitos, permaneced en Él, para que cuando se manifestare tengamos confianza y no seamos avergonzados delante de Él en su Parusía. And now, little sons, abide in him, so that when he appears, we may have faith, and we may not be confounded by him at his advent.29Si sabéis que Él es justo, reconoced también que de Él ha nacido todo aquel que obra justicia. If you know that he is just, then know, too, that all who do what is just are born of him.
