1Carísimos, no creáis a todo espíritu, sino poned a prueba los espíritus si son de Dios; porque muchos falsos profetas han salido al mundo. Most beloved, do not be willing to believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see if they are of God. For many false prophets have gone out into the world.2Conoced el Espíritu de Dios en esto: todo espíritu que confiesa que Jesucristo ha venido en carne, es de Dios; The Spirit of God may be known in this way. Every spirit who confesses that Jesus Christ has arrived in the flesh is of God;3y todo espíritu que no confiesa a Jesús, no es de Dios, sino que es el espíritu del Anticristo. Habéis oído que viene ese espíritu, y ahora está ya en el mundo. and every spirit who contradicts Jesus is not of God. And this one is the Antichrist, the one that you have heard is coming, and even now he is in the world.4Vosotros, hijitos, sois de Dios, y los habéis vencido, porque el que está en vosotros es mayor que el que está en el mundo. Little sons, you are of God, and so you have overcome him. For he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.5Ellos son del mundo; por eso hablan según el mundo, y el mundo los escucha. They are of the world. Therefore, they speak about the world, and the world listens to them.6Nosotros somos de Dios. El que conoce a Dios nos escucha a nosotros; el que no es de Dios no nos escucha. En esto conocemos el Espíritu de la verdad y el espíritu del error. We are of God. Whoever knows God, listens to us. Whoever is not of God, does not listen to us. In this way, we know the Spirit of truth from the spirit of error.7Carísimos, amémonos unos a otros, porque el amor es de Dios, y todo el que ama es nacido de Dios y conoce a Dios. Most beloved, let us love one another. For love is of God. And everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.8El que no ama, no ha aprendido a conocer a Dios, porque Dios es amor. Whoever does not love, does not know God. For God is love.9Y el amor de Dios se ha manifestado en nosotros en que Dios envió al mundo su Hijo Unigénito, para que nosotros vivamos por Él. The love of God was made apparent to us in this way: that God sent his only-begotten Son into the world, so that we might live through him.10En esto está el amor: no en que nosotros hayamos amado a Dios, sino en que Él nos amó a nosotros y envió su Hijo como propiciación por nuestros pecados. In this is love: not as if we had loved God, but that he first loved us, and so he sent his Son as a propitiation for our sins.11Amados, si de tal manera nos amó Dios, también nosotros debemos amarnos mutuamente. Most beloved, if God has so loved us, we also ought to love one another.12A Dios nadie lo ha visto jamás; mas si nos amamos unos a otros, Dios permanece en nosotros y su amor llega en nosotros a la perfección. No one has ever seen God. But if we love one another, God abides in us, and his love is perfected in us.13En esto conocemos que permanecemos en Él y Él en nosotros, en que nos ha dado de su Espíritu. In this way, we know that we abide in him, and he in us: because he has given to us from his Spirit.14Y nosotros vimos y testificamos que el Padre envió al Hijo como Salvador del mundo. And we have seen, and we testify, that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.15Quienquiera confiesa que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios, Dios permanece en él y él en Dios. Whoever has confessed that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.16En cuanto a nosotros, hemos conocido el amor que Dios nos tiene y hemos creído en ese amor. Dios es amor; y el que permanece en el amor, en Dios permanece y Dios permanece en él. And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love. And he who abides in love, abides in God, and God in him.17En esto es perfecto el amor en nosotros —de modo que tengamos confianza segura en el día del juicio— porque tal como es Él somos también nosotros en este mundo. In this way, the love of God is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence on the day of judgment. For as he is, so also are we, in this world.18En el amor no hay temor; al contrario, el amor perfecto echa fuera el temor, pues el temor supone castigo. El que teme no es perfecto en el amor. Fear is not in love. Instead, perfect love casts out fear, for fear pertains to punishment. And whoever fears is not perfected in love.19Nosotros amamos porque Él nos amó primero. Therefore, let us love God, for God first loved us.20Si alguno dice: “Yo amo a Dios”, y odia a su hermano, es un mentiroso; pues el que no ama a su hermano a quien ve, no puede amar a Dios, a quien nunca ha visto. If anyone says that he loves God, but hates his brother, then he is a liar. For he who does not love his brother, whom he does see, in what way can he love God, whom he does not see?21Y este es el mandamiento que tenemos de Él: que quien ama a Dios ame también a su hermano. And this is the commandment that we have from God, that he who loves God must also love his brother.
