1Quienquiera cree que Jesús es el Cristo, es engendrado de Dios. Y todo el que ama al (Padre) que engendró, ama también al engendrado por Él. Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ, is born of God. And everyone who loves God, who provides that birth, also loves him who has been born of God.2En esto conocemos que amamos a los hijos de Dios: cuando amamos a Dios y cumplimos sus mandamientos. In this way, we know that we love those born of God: when we love God and do his commandments.3Porque este es el amor de Dios: que, guardemos sus mandamientos; y sus mandamientos no son pesados; For this is the love of God: that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not heavy.4porque todo lo que es nacido de Dios vence al mundo; y esta es la victoria que ha vencido al mundo; nuestra fe. For all that is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that overcomes the world: our faith.5¿Quién es el que vence al mundo sino el que cree que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios? Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God!6El mismo es el que vino a través de agua y de sangre: Jesucristo; no en el agua solamente, sino en el agua y en la sangre; y el Espíritu es el que da testimonio, por cuanto el Espíritu es la verdad. This is the One who came by water and blood: Jesus Christ. Not by water only, but by water and blood. And the Spirit is the One who testifies that the Christ is the Truth.7Porque tres son los que dan testimonio [en el cielo; el Padre, el Verbo y el Espíritu Santo, y estos tres son uno. For there are Three who give testimony in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit. And these Three are One.8Y tres son los que dan testimonio en la tierra]: el Espíritu, y el agua, y la sangre; y los tres concuerdan. And there are three who give testimony on earth: the Spirit, and the water, and the blood. And these three are one.9Si aceptamos el testimonio de los hombres, mayor es el testimonio de Dios, porque testimonio de Dios es este: que Él mismo testificó acerca de su Hijo. If we accept the testimony of men, then the testimony of God is greater. For this is the testimony of God, which is greater: that he has testified about his Son.10Quien cree en el Hijo de Dios, tiene en sí el testimonio de Dios; quien no cree a Dios, le declara mentiroso, porque no ha creído en el testimonio que Dios ha dado de su Hijo. Whoever believes in the Son of God, holds the testimony of God within himself. Whoever does not believe in the Son, makes him a liar, because he does not believe in the testimony which God has testified about his Son.11Y el testimonio es este: Dios nos ha dado vida eterna, y esa vida está en su Hijo. And this is the testimony which God has given to us: Eternal Life. And this Life is in his Son.12El que tiene al Hijo tiene la vida; quien no tiene al Hijo de Dios no tiene la vida. Whoever has the Son, has Life. Whoever does not have the Son, does not have Life.13Escribo esto a los que creéis en el nombre del Hijo de Dios, para que sepáis que tenéis vida eterna. I am writing this to you, so that you may know that you have Eternal Life: you who believe in the name of the Son of God.14Y esta es la confianza que tenemos con Él: que Él nos escucha si pedimos algo conforme a su voluntad; And this is the confidence which we have toward God: that no matter what we shall request, in accord with his will, he hears us.15y si sabemos que nos escucha en cualquier cosa que le pidamos, sabemos también que ya obtuvimos todo lo que le hemos pedido. And we know that he hears us, no matter what we request; so we know that we can obtain the things that we request of him.16Si alguno ve a su hermano cometer un pecado que no es para muerte, ruegue, y así dará vida a los que no pecan para muerte. Hay un pecado para muerte; por él no digo que ruegue. Anyone who realizes that his brother has sinned, with a sin that is not unto death, let him pray, and life shall be given to him who has sinned not unto death. There is a sin which is unto death. I am not saying that anyone should ask on behalf of that sin.17Toda injusticia es pecado; pero hay pecado que no es para muerte. All that is iniquity is sin. But there is a sin unto death.18Sabemos que todo el que es engendrado de Dios no peca; sino que Aquel que fue engendrado de Dios le guarda, y sobre él nada puede el Maligno. We know that everyone who is born of God does not sin. Instead, rebirth in God preserves him, and the evil one cannot touch him.19Pues sabemos que nosotros somos de Dios, en tanto que el mundo entero está bajo el Maligno. We know that we are of God, and that the entire world is established in wickedness.20Y sabemos que el Hijo de Dios ha venido y nos ha dado entendimiento para que conozcamos al (Dios ) verdadero; y estamos en el verdadero, (estando) en su Hijo Jesucristo. Este es el verdadero Dios y vida eterna. And we know that the Son of God has arrived, and that he has given us understanding, so that we may know the true God, and so that we may remain in his true Son. This is the true God, and this is Eternal Life.21Hijitos, guardaos de los ídolos. Little sons, keep yourselves from false worship. Amen.
