1He aquí que por orden de Yahvé vino un hombre de Dios de Judá a Betel, estando Jeroboam todavía en el altar para quemar incienso. And behold, by the word of the Lord, a man of God went from Judah to Bethel, when Jeroboam was standing over the altar, and burning incense.2Y gritó contra el altar por orden de Yahvé, y dijo: “¡Altar, altar! así dice Yahvé: He aquí que un hijo ha de nacer a la casa de David, que se llamará Josías, el cual sacrificará sobre ti a los sacerdotes de los lugares altos que queman incienso sobre ti; y se quemaran sobre ti huesos humanos.” And by the word of the Lord, he cried out against the altar. And he said: “O altar, O altar! Thus says the Lord: ‘Behold, a son will be born to the house of David, Josiah by name. And upon you, he will immolate the priests of the high places, who now burn incense upon you. And upon you, he will burn up the bones of men.’ ”3Y dio aquel mismo día una señal diciendo: “Esta es la señal que ha indicado Yahvé: He aquí que el altar se quebrará y se derramará la ceniza que hay sobre él.” And he gave a sign on the same day, saying: “This will be the sign that the Lord has spoken. Behold, the altar shall be torn apart, and the ashes that are upon it shall be poured out.”4Al oír el rey la palabra que el varón de Dios gritaba contra el altar de Betel, extendió su mano desde el altar y dijo: “¡Prendedlo!” Mas se le secó la mano que había extendido contra él; y no pudo retirarla hacia sí. And when the king had heard the word of the man of God, which he had cried out against the altar at Bethel, he extended his hand from the altar, saying, “Apprehend him!” But his hand, which he had extended against him, withered. And he was unable to draw it back to himself.5Y al punto el altar se quebró, y se derramó la ceniza del altar, conforme a la señal que el varón de Dios había dado por orden de Yahvé. Also, the altar was torn apart, and the ashes were poured out from the altar, in accord with the sign that the man of God had predicted by the word of the Lord.6Entonces tomando el rey la palabra dijo al varón de Dios: “Suplica, te ruego, a Yahvé tu Dios, y ora por mí, para que vuelva hacia mí la mano.” Y suplicó el varón de Dios a Yahvé, después de lo cual la mano del rey volvió hacia él y quedó como antes. And the king said to the man of God, “Entreat the face of the Lord your God, and pray for me, so that my hand may be restored to me.” And the man of God prayed before the face of the Lord, and the hand of the king was restored to him, and it became as it had been before.7Luego dijo el rey al varón de Dios: “Ven conmigo a casa, y toma un refresco y te daré un presente.” Then the king said to the man of God: “Come home with me, so that you may dine. And I will give you gifts.”8Pero el varón de Dios respondió al rey: “Aunque me dieras la mitad de tu casa, no iría contigo; y no comeré pan ni beberé agua en este lugar; And the man of God responded to the king: “Even if you will give me one half part of your house, I will not go with you, nor eat bread, nor drink water in this place.9porque así me fue mandado por palabra de Yahvé, que me dijo: «No comerás pan ni beberás agua, ni volverás por el camino por donde viniste.»” For so it was commanded to me by the word of the Lord, ordering: ‘You shall not eat bread, and you shall not drink water, nor shall you return by the way that you came.’ ”10Se fue, pues, por otro camino, y no volvió por el camino por el cual había venido a Betel. Then he departed by another way, and he did not return along the way that he had traveled to Bethel.11Ahora bien, habitaba en Betel un profeta anciano, al cual llegaron sus hijos y le contaron todo lo que aquel día había hecho el varón de Dios en Betel. Contaron también a su padre las palabras que había dicho al rey. Now a certain elderly prophet was living in Bethel. His sons went to him, and they described to him all the works which the man of God had accomplished on that day in Bethel. And they described to their father the words that he had spoken to the king.12Su padre les dijo: “¿Por qué camino se fue?” Y le mostraron sus hijos el camino que había tomado el varón de Dios venido de Judá. And their father said to them, “By which way did he depart?” His sons showed him the way by which the man of God, who had come from Judah, had departed.13Dijo entonces a sus hijos: “Aparejadme el asno.” Le aparejaron el asno, y montado en él And he said to his sons, “Saddle the donkey for me.” And when they had saddled it, he climbed on,14siguió tras el varón de Dios, y después de hallarlo sentado bajo una encina le dijo: “¿Eres tú el varón de Dios que ha venido de Judá?” “Yo soy”, respondió él. and he went away after the man of God. And he found him sitting under a terebinth tree. And he said to him, “Are you the man of God who came from Judah?” And he responded, “I am.”15El otro le dijo: “Vente conmigo a casa a comer pan.” And he said to him, “Come home with me, so that you may eat bread.”16Mas él contestó: “No puedo volver contigo, ni entrar contigo (en tu casa); tampoco podré comer pan ni beber agua contigo en este lugar; But he said: “I am not able to turn back, nor to go with you. Neither will I eat bread, or drink water in this place.17porque me fue mandado por palabra de Yahvé, que me dijo: «No comas pan ni bebas agua allí, ni vuelvas a tomar el camino por donde viniste.»” For the Lord has spoken to me, by the word of the Lord, saying, “You shall not eat bread, and you shall not drink water in that place, nor shall you return by the way that you arrived.”18El otro le dijo: “Yo también soy profeta como tú, y un ángel me ha hablado por orden de Yahvé, diciendo: «Hazle volver contigo a tu casa, para que coma pan y beba agua.»” Y así lo engañó. And he said to him: “I, too, am a prophet like you. And an Angel spoke to me, by the word of the Lord, saying, ‘Lead him back with you to your house, so that he may eat bread, and drink water.’ ” And so he deceived him.19Se volvió con él, y comió pan en su casa y bebió agua. And he led him back with him. Then he ate bread and drank water in his house.20Estando ellos aún sentados a la mesa, fue dirigida la palabra de Yahvé al profeta que lo había hecho volver; And while they were sitting at table, the word of the Lord came to the prophet who had led him back.21y gritando al varón de Dios que había venido de Judá, le dijo: “Así dice Yahvé: Por cuanto has sido rebelde a la orden de Yahvé, y no has observado la orden que Yahvé, tu Dios, te había dado, And he cried out to the man of God who had arrived from Judah, saying: “Thus says the Lord: Because you were not obedient to the mouth of the Lord, and you did not keep the commandment that the Lord your God instructed to you,22sino que volviéndote has comido pan y bebido agua en este lugar, en que Él te prohibió comer pan y beber agua, no entrará tu cadáver al sepulcro de tus padres.” and you turned back, and ate bread, and drank water in the place where he commanded you that you should not eat bread, nor drink water: your dead body shall not be carried back to the sepulcher of your fathers.”23Y apenas hubo comido pan y tomado bebida, cuándo el otro aparejó para él el asno, (es decir), para el profeta a quien había hecho volver. And when he had eaten and had drunk, he saddled his donkey for the prophet whom he had led back.24Partió, pues, mas en el camino le encontró un león, que le mató, y quedó su cadáver tendido en el camino, mientras que el asno estaba parado junto a él; también el león se tenía de pie al lado del cadáver. And when he had departed, a lion found him along the way, and it killed him, and his dead body was left upon the road. Now the donkey was standing beside him. And the lion was standing beside the dead body.25Y he aquí que pasaron algunos hombres que vieron el cadáver tendido en el camino, y al león parado junto al cadáver y fueron a contarlo en la ciudad donde habitaba aquel anciano profeta. And behold, men who were passing by saw the dead body lying in the road, with the lion standing beside the body. And they went and made it widely known in the city where that elderly prophet was living.26Cuando lo oyó el profeta que le había hecho volver del camino, dijo: “Es el varón de Dios que fue rebelde a la orden de Yahvé; por lo cual Este le entregó al león, que le ha despedazado y le ha dado muerte, conforme a la palabra que Yahvé le había dicho.” And when that prophet, who had led him back from the way, had heard it, he said: “It is the man of God, who was disobedient to the mouth of the Lord. And the Lord has delivered him to the lion. And it has torn him apart and killed him, in accord with the word of the Lord, which he spoke to him.”27Dijo entonces a sus hijos: “Aparejadme el asno.” Ellos se lo aparejaron; And he said to his sons, “Saddle a donkey for me.” And when they had saddled it,28y él se fue, y halló el cadáver tendido en el camino, y el asno y el león parados junto al cadáver. El león no se había comido el cadáver ni había despedazado el asno. and he had departed, he found the dead body lying on the road, with the donkey and the lion standing beside the dead body. The lion did not eat from the dead body, nor did it harm the donkey.29El profeta alzó el cadáver del varón de Dios, lo puso sobre el asno; y llevándolo de vuelta vino el anciano profeta a la ciudad para velarlo y darle sepultura. Then the prophet took the dead body of the man of God, and he placed it upon the donkey, and returning, he brought it into the city of the elderly prophet, so that he might mourn for him.30Depositó el cadáver en su propio sepulcro, y le hicieron el duelo, exclamando: “¡Ay, hermano mío!” And he placed his dead body in his own sepulcher. And they mourned for him, saying: “Alas! Alas! My brother!”31Después de sepultarlo dijo a sus hijos: “Cuando yo muera, sepultadme en el sepulcro en que está sepultado el varón de Dios. Depositad mis huesos junto a sus huesos. And when they had mourned over him, he said to his sons: “When I will have died, bury me in the sepulcher in which the man of God was buried. Place my bones beside his bones.32Porque infaliblemente se cumplirá la palabra que él por orden de Yahvé gritó contra el altar que está en Betel y contra todos los santuarios de los lugares altos que están en las ciudades de Samaria.” For certainly, the word will arrive, which he predicted by the word of the Lord, against the altar, which is in Bethel, and against all the shrines of the high places, which are in the cities of Samaria.”33Aun después de este acontecimiento Jeroboam no se apartó de su mal camino, antes al contrario, volvió a constituir como sacerdotes de los lugares altos a gentes del vulgo. A cualquiera que quería, le consagraba y quedaba sacerdote de los lugares altos. After these words, Jeroboam did not turn back from his very evil way. Instead, to the contrary, he made priests for the high places out of the least of the people. Whosoever was willing, he filled his hand, and he became a priest of the high places.34En esto consistió el pecado de la casa de Jeroboam, y por eso fue extirpada y destruida de sobre la tierra. And for this reason, the house of Jeroboam sinned, and was uprooted, and was wiped from the face of the earth.
