1El rey David era ya viejo y de edad avanzada, por lo cual lo cubrían con ropas, pero no podía entrar en calor. Now king David had become elderly, and he had many days in his lifetime. And though he was covered with clothes, he was not warmed.2Entonces sus siervos le dijeron: “Búsquese para el rey, nuestro señor, una joven, virgen, que sirva al rey. Ella te cuide y se acueste en tu seno, para que nuestro señor, el rey, consiga calor. Therefore, his servants said to him: “Let us seek, for our lord the king, a young virgin. And let her stand before the king, and warm him, and sleep in his bosom, and provide warmth for our lord the king.”3Buscaron, pues, una joven hermosa en todos los territorios de Israel; y hallaron a Abisag, sunamita, y la trajeron al rey. And so they sought a beautiful young woman in all the parts of Israel. And they found Abishag, a Shunammite, and they led her to the king.4Esta joven era en extremo hermosa; cuidaba ella al rey y le servía, pero el rey no la conoció. Now the girl was exceedingly beautiful. And she slept with the king, and she ministered to him. Yet truly, the king did not know her.5Entonces Adonías, hijo de Hagit, dijo en su orgullo: “Yo seré rey”; y se procuró una carroza, gente de a caballo, y cincuenta hombres que corriesen delante de él. Then Adonijah, the son of Haggith, exalted himself, saying, “I shall reign!” And he appointed for himself chariots and horsemen, with fifty men who would run before him.6Su padre nunca en todos sus días se lo reprochaba, preguntándole: “¿Por qué haces esto?” Adonías era de muy hermosa presencia y (su madre) le había dado a luz después de Absalón. But he did not summon Nathan, the prophet, and Benaiah, and all the mature men, and Solomon, his brother.11Entonces habló Natán a Betsabee, madre de Salomón, y le dijo: “¿No sabes que reina Adonías, hijo de Hagit, sin que nuestro señor David lo sepa? And so Nathan said to Bathsheba, the mother of Solomon: “Have you not heard that Adonijah, the son of Haggith, has begun to reign, and that our lord David is ignorant of this?12Ven, pues, ahora y te daré un consejo, para que puedas salvar tu vida y la vida de tu hijo Salomón. Now then, come, accept my counsel, and save your life and the life of your son Solomon.13Anda, preséntate al rey David, y dile: «Señor mío y rey, ¿no juraste tú a tu sierva, diciendo: Salomón, tu hijo, reinará después de mí, y él se sentará sobre mi trono? ¿Por qué, pues, reina Adonías?» Go and enter to king David, and say to him: ‘Did you not, my lord the king, swear to me, your handmaid, saying: “Your son Solomon shall reign after me, and he himself shall sit on my throne?” Then why does Adonijah reign?’14Y he aquí que mientras tú estuvieres aún hablando allí con el rey, entraré yo tras de ti, y confirmaré tus palabras.” And while you are still speaking with the king there, I will enter after you, and I will complete your words.”15Entró, pues, Betsabee en el aposento del rey, el cual era ya muy viejo, y Abisag la sunamita servía al rey. And so Bathsheba entered to the king in the bedroom. Now the king was very old, and Abishag, the Shunammite, was ministering to him.16Se inclinó Betsabee y se postró ante el rey; y dijo el rey: “¿Qué quieres?” Bathsheba bowed herself, and she reverenced the king. And the king said to her, “What do you wish?”17Respondió ella: “Señor mío, tú juraste a tu sierva por Yahvé, tu Dios, diciendo: «Salomón, tu hijo, reinará después de mí, y él se sentará sobre mi trono.» And responding, she said: “My lord, you swore to your handmaid, by the Lord your God: ‘your son Solomon will reign after me, and he himself shall sit upon my throne.’18Mas ahora he aquí que Adonías se ha hecho rey, y tú, señor mío, y rey, no lo sabes. And now behold, Adonijah reigns, while you, my lord the king, are ignorant of it.19Ha sacrificado bueyes y novillos cebados y ovejas en gran número, y ha convidado a todos los hijos del rey, y al sacerdote Abiatar, y a Joab, jefe del ejército; pero no ha convidado a tu siervo Salomón. He has slain oxen, and every kind of fattened cattle, and many rams. And he has summoned all the sons of the king, as well as Abiathar, the priest, and Joab, the leader of the military. But Solomon, your servant, he did not summon.20En ti, oh rey y señor mío, están ahora puestos los ojos de todo Israel, para que les hagas saber quién ha de sentarse sobre el trono de mi señor el rey después de él. Truly now, my lord the king, the eyes of all of Israel look with favor upon you, that you may indicate to them who ought to sit upon your throne, my lord the king, after you.21De lo contrario, cuando el rey mi señor duerma con sus padres, yo y Salomón, mi hijo, seremos (tratados como) criminales.” Otherwise, this will be: when my lord the king sleeps with his fathers, I and my son Solomon will be as sinners.”22Ella estaba todavía hablando con el rey, cuando he aquí llegó el profeta Natán. Nathan said: “My lord the king, did you say, ‘Let Adonijah reign after me, and let him sit upon my throne?’25Porque ha bajado hoy y ha sacrificado bueyes y novillos cebados y ovejas en gran número, y ha convidado a todos los hijos del rey, a los capitanes del ejército y al sacerdote Abiatar; y he aquí que están comiendo y bebiendo con él y exclaman: ¡Viva el rey Adonías! For today, he descended, and he immolated oxen, and fattened cattle, and many rams. And he summoned all the sons of the king, and the leaders of the army, along with Abiathar, the priest. And they are eating and drinking before him, and saying, ‘As king Adonijah lives.’26Pero no me ha convidado a mí, tu siervo, ni al sacerdote Sadoc, ni a Banaías, hijo de Joiadá, ni a Salomón tu siervo. But he did not summon me, your servant, and Zadok, the priest, and Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, and Solomon, your lowly servant.27¿Se hace esto por orden de nuestro señor el rey, sin comunicar a tus siervos quién ha de sentarse sobre el trono de mi señor el rey después de él?” Could this word have gone out from my lord the king, and could you not have revealed it to me, your servant, as to who would be seated upon the throne of my lord the king after him?”28Respondió el rey David, diciendo: “Llamadme a Betsabee”; y ella entró a la presencia del rey y estuvo de pie ante el rey. And king David responded, saying, “Summon to me Bathsheba.” And when she had entered before the king, and she had stood before him,29Entonces hizo el rey este juramento: “¡Vive Yahvé que ha librado mi alma de toda angustia, the king swore and said: “As the Lord lives, who has rescued my soul from all distress,30que así como te he jurado por Yahvé, el Dios de Israel, diciendo: Salomón tu hijo, reinará después de mí, y él se sentara sobre mi trono en mi lugar, así haré hoy mismo!” just as I swore to you by the Lord God of Israel, saying: ‘Your son Solomon shall reign after me, and he himself shall sit upon my throne in my place,’ so shall I do this day.”31Entonces Betsabee inclinó el rostro hasta la tierra, y prosternándose delante del rey, dijo: “¡Viva mi señor, el rey David, para siempre!” And Bathsheba, having lowered her face to the ground, reverenced the king, saying, “May my lord David live forever.”32Después dijo el rey David: “Llamadme al sacerdote Sadoc, al profeta Natán, y a Banaías, hijo de Joiadá.” Cuando ellos se habían presentado delante del rey, And king David said, “Summon to me Zadok, the priest, and Nathan, the prophet, and Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada.” And when they had entered before the king,33les dijo este: “Tomad con vosotros a los siervos de vuestro señor, y haced montar a Salomón mi hijo sobre mi mula, y conducidle al Gihón. he said to them: “Take with you the servants of your lord, and place my son Solomon upon my mule. And lead him to Gihon.34Allí el sacerdote Sadoc y el profeta Natán le ungirán por rey sobre Israel; y tocaréis la trompeta, y diréis: “¡Viva el rey Salomón!” And let Zadok, the priest, and Nathan, the prophet, anoint him in that place as the king over Israel. And you shall sound the trumpet, and you shall say, ‘As king Solomon lives.’35Luego subiréis en pos de él; y vendrá y se sentará sobre mi trono. El será rey en mi lugar, porque a él le instituyo príncipe sobre Israel y Judá.” And you shall ascend after him, and he shall arrive and shall sit upon my throne. And he himself shall reign in my place. And I will command that he be the ruler over Israel and over Judah.”36Respondió Banaías, hijo de Joiadá, al rey, diciendo: “¡Amén! ¡Así lo confirme Yahvé, el Dios de mi señor el rey! And Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, responded to the king, saying: “Amen. So says the Lord, the God of my lord the king.37¡Como Yahvé ha estado con mi señor, el rey, así esté con Salomón; y ensalce su trono más que el trono de mi señor, el rey David!” In the same way that the Lord has been with my lord the king, so may he be with Solomon. And may he make his throne more sublime than the throne of my lord, king David.”38Bajaron, pues, el sacerdote Sadoc, el profeta Natán y Banaías, hijo de Joiadá, con los cereteos y feleteos, e hicieron montar a Salomón sobre la mula del rey David y le condujeron al Gihón. Then Zadok, the priest, and Nathan, the prophet, descended, with Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and Pelethites. And they placed Solomon on the mule of king David, and they led him to Gihon.39El sacerdote Sadoc tomó del Tabernáculo el cuerno de óleo, con el cual ungió a Salomón; y al son de la trompeta exclamó todo el pueblo: “¡Viva el rey Salomón!” And Zadok, the priest, took the horn of oil from the tabernacle, and he anointed Solomon. And they sounded the trumpet. And all the people said, “As king Solomon lives.”40Después subió con él todo el pueblo, tocando flautas, y haciendo gran fiesta de modo que parecía hendirse la tierra por el ruido de sus aclamaciones. And the entire multitude ascended after him. And the people were playing on pipes, and rejoicing with great joy. And Jonathan answered Adonijah: “By no means. For our lord king David has appointed Solomon as king.44El rey ha enviado con él al sacerdote Sadoc, al profeta Natán y a Banaías, hijo de Joiadá, con los cereteos y feleteos, y ellos le hicieron montar sobre la mula del rey. And he has sent with him Zadok, the priest, and Nathan, the prophet, and Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and Pelethites. Therefore, all those who had been summoned by Adonijah were terrified. And they all rose up, and each one went his own way.50También Adonías, teniendo miedo de Salomón, se levantó y fue a asirse de los cuernos del altar. Then Adonijah, fearing Solomon, rose up and went away. And he took hold of the horn of the altar.51Y se le dio a Salomón esta noticia: “He aquí que Adonías teme al rey Salomón; se ha asido de los cuernos del altar y dice: «¡Júreme hoy el rey Salomón que no hará morir a su siervo al filo de la espada!»” And they reported to Solomon, saying: “Behold, Adonijah, fearing king Solomon, has taken hold of the horn of the altar, saying: ‘May king Solomon swear to me this day that he will not put to death his servant with the sword.’ ”52El rey Salomón respondió: “Si fuere hombre de bien, no caerá a tierra ni un cabello suyo; pero si se hallare maldad en él, morirá.” And Solomon said: “If he is a good man, not so much as one hair of his head shall fall to the ground. But if evil is found in him, he shall die.”53Envió, pues, el rey Salomón gente que lo sacasen del altar; y él vino y se postró ante el rey Salomón. Y le dijo Salomón: “Vete a tu casa.” Therefore, king Solomon sent and brought him from the altar. And entering, he reverenced king Solomon. And Solomon said to him, “Go to your own house.”
