1 Reyes 5
Hiram, the king of Tyre, also sent his servants to Solomon. For he heard that they had anointed him king in place of his father. Now Hiram had been a friend to David the entire time.2Salomón, por su parte, envió a decir a Hiram: Then Solomon sent to Hiram, saying:3“Bien sabes que David mi padre no pudo edificar la Casa al Nombre de Yahvé, su Dios, a causa de las guerras (con los enemigos) que le rodearon, hasta que Yahvé los puso bajo las plantas de sus pies. “You know the will of my father David, and that he was not able to build a house to the name of the Lord his God, because of the wars that were imminent all around him, until the Lord set them under the steps of his feet.4Mas ahora Yahvé, mi Dios, me ha dado reposo por todos lados; no hay más enemigo ni obstáculo adverso. But now the Lord my God has given rest to me on all sides. And there is no adversary, nor occurrence of evil.5Por lo cual, he aquí que yo me propongo edificar una Casa al Nombre de Yahvé, mi Dios, como Yahvé lo ha ordenado a mi padre David, diciendo: ‘Tu hijo que Yo pondré en tu lugar sobre tu trono, ese edificará la Casa a mi Nombre.’ For this reason, I intend to build a temple to the name of the Lord my God, just as the Lord spoke to my father David, saying: ‘Your son, whom I will set in your place, upon your throne, he himself shall build a house to my name.’6Manda, pues, que se me corten cedros en el Líbano; y mis siervos estarán con tus siervos, y te pagaré el salario de tus siervos conforme a todo lo que pidieres; porque bien sabes que no hay entre nosotros quien sepa cortar las maderas como los sidonios.” Therefore, order that your servants may cut down for me cedars from Lebanon. And let my servants be with your servants. Then I will give to you, for the wages of your servants, whatever you will ask. For you know that there is not a man among my people who knows how to cut wood as well as the Sidonians.”7Cuando Hiram oyó estas palabras de Salomón, se alegró mucho y exclamó: “¡Bendito sea hoy Yahvé que ha dado a David un hijo sabio sobre este pueblo tan grande!” Therefore, when Hiram had heard the words of Solomon, he rejoiced greatly, and he said, “Blessed be the Lord God this day, who gave to David a very wise son over this numerous people!”8Y envió Hiram a decir a Salomón: “He tomado nota de lo que me has mandado a decir. Cumpliré todos tus deseos en cuanto a las maderas de cedro y las maderas de ciprés. And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying: “I have heard the things that you would entrust to me. And I will do your whole will concerning the cedar trees and spruce trees.9Mis siervos las bajarán desde el Líbano al mar, y yo las haré transportar en balsas por mar al lugar que tú me indiques. Allí las haré desatar y tú te las llevarás, y cumplirás, por tu parte, mi deseo, suministrando víveres a mi casa.” My servants shall bring them down from Lebanon to the sea. And I will arrange them together as rafts on the sea, as far as the place that you will indicate to me. And I will land them there, and you will take them. And you shall offer to me what is necessary to give food to my house.”10Suministraba, pues, Hiram a Salomón maderas de cedro y maderas de ciprés, cuantas este quería, And so, Hiram gave to Solomon cedar trees and spruce trees, in accord with his whole will.11en tanto que Salomón daba a Hiram veinte mil coros de trigo para el sustento de su casa y veinte coros de aceite de olivas machacadas. Then Solomon offered to Hiram twenty thousand cor of wheat, as food for his house, and twenty cor of the purest oil. These things Solomon gave as a tribute to Hiram every year.12Y Yahvé dio a Salomón sabiduría, como se lo había prometido. And the Lord gave wisdom to Solomon, just as he said to him. And there was peace between Hiram and Solomon, and the two struck a pact.13Hizo el rey Salomón una leva de obreros en todo Israel, la cual fue de treinta mil hombres. And king Solomon chose workers from all of Israel, and the conscription was of thirty thousand men.14De esos enviaba al Líbano diez mil cada mes, por turno. And he sent them into Lebanon, ten thousand each month, in turns, so that for two months they were in their own houses. And Adoniram was over this type of conscription.15Tenía Salomón además setenta mil hombres que llevaban cargas, y ochenta mil canteros en la montaña, And Solomon had seventy thousand of those who were carrying burdens, and eighty thousand of those who cut stones from the mountain,16sin contar los sobrestantes de Salomón, que estaban al frente de la obra, en número de tres mil trescientos. Estos dirigían al pueblo que trabajaba en la obra. aside from the commanders who were over each work, in number three thousand and three hundred, who gave orders to the people and to those who were doing the work.17Por orden del rey se cortaban también piedras grandes, piedras de gran precio, para hacer de piedras talladas el cimiento de la Casa. And the king ordered them to bring great stones, precious stones, for the foundation of the temple, and to square them.18Los obreros de Salomón y los obreros de Hiram y los giblios las tallaron y prepararon las maderas y las piedras para edificar la Casa. And these were shaped by the stoneworkers of Solomon and the stoneworkers of Hiram. And the men of Gebal also prepared the wood and the stones in order to build the house.
