1 Samuel 19
1Saúl habló con Jonatán, su hijo, y con todos sus servidores (del plan) de matar a David. Mas Jonatán, hijo de Saúl, amaba mucho a David. Now Saul spoke to his son Jonathan, and to all his servants, so that they would kill David. But Jonathan, the son of Saul, loved David very much.2Y Jonatán avisó a David, diciendo: “Saúl, mi padre, busca cómo matarte. Guárdate, pues, mañana, retírate a un lugar oculto, y escóndete; And Jonathan revealed it to David, saying: “Saul, my father, is seeking to kill you. Because of this, I ask you, take care for yourself in the morning. And you should conceal yourself and remain in hiding.3yo, entretanto, me pondré al lado de mi padre y saldré al campo donde tú estuvieres, y hablaré de ti con mi padre, para ver lo que diga; y te avisaré.” Then I, going out, will be standing beside my father in the field, where you will be. And I will speak about you to my father. And whatever I see, I will report to you.”4Habló, pues, Jonatán con Saúl, su padre, en favor de David y le dijo: “No peque el rey contra su servidor David, pues él no ha pecado contra ti; al contrario, sus obras te son de gran provecho. Then Jonathan spoke good things about David to his father Saul. And he said to him: “You should not sin, O king, against your servant David. For he has not sinned against you, and his works toward you are very good.5Él ha expuesto su vida matando al filisteo, y así ha obrado Yahvé una gran liberación en favor de todo Israel. Tú mismo eras testigo y te has llenado de alegría. ¿Por qué quieres pecar contra sangre inocente, matando a David sin causa?” And he took his life in his own hand, and struck down the Philistine. And the Lord wrought a great salvation for all of Israel. You saw it, and you rejoiced. Why then would you sin against innocent blood by killing David, who is without guilt?”6Escuchó Saúl la voz de Jonatán, y juró Saúl: “¡Vive Yahvé que no ha de morir David!” And when Saul had heard this, being pleased by the voice of Jonathan, he swore, “As the Lord lives, he shall not be killed.”7Llamó entonces Jonatán a David, y le comunicó todas estas palabras; y Jonatán llevó a David a la presencia de Saúl, donde David se quedó como antes. And so Jonathan called David, and he revealed to him all of these words. And Jonathan led in David to Saul, and he was before him, just as he had been yesterday and the day before.8Hubo de nuevo guerra y David salió a luchar contra los filisteos. Les infligió una gran derrota, y ellos huyeron delante de él. Then the war was stirred up again. And David went out and fought against the Philistines. And he struck them down with a great slaughter. And the evil spirit from the Lord came to Saul, who was sitting in his house and holding a lance. And Saul attempted to fix David to the wall with the lance. But David turned aside from the face of Saul. And the lance failed to wound him, and it became fixed in the wall. And David fled, and so he was saved that night.11Saúl envió guardias a casa de David para vigilarlo y matarlo al día siguiente. Mas avisó a David su mujer Micol, diciendo: “Si no librares tu vida esta misma noche, mañana morirás.” Therefore, Saul sent his guards to David’s house, so that they might watch for him, and so that he might be killed in the morning. And after Michal, his wife, had reported this to David, saying, “Unless you save yourself this night, tomorrow you will die,”12Y Micol descolgó a David por la ventana, el cual de esta suerte escapó y se puso en salvo. she lowered him down through a window. Then he fled and went away, and he was saved.13Luego tomó Micol el terafim, y lo metió en el lecho, poniendo sobre su cabeza una piel de cabra y cubriéndolo de ropa. Then Michal took a statue, and placed it on the bed. And she placed the pelt of a goat for the hair at its head. And she covered it with clothes.14Y cuando Saúl envió los guardias para prender a David, ella dijo: “Está enfermo.” And Saul sent attendants to seize David. And it was answered that he was sick.15Saúl envió (de nuevo) los guardias que diesen con David, y les dijo: “Traédmelo en su lecho, para que le mate.” And again, Saul sent messengers to see David, saying, “Bring him to me on the bed, so that he may be killed.”16Entraron, pues, los guardias, y he aquí que en el lecho estaba el terafim, con la piel de cabra sobre la cabeza. And when the messengers had arrived, they found a likeness on the bed, with a goat pelt at its head.17Entonces dijo Saúl a Micol: “¿Por qué me has engañado así, y has dejado salir a mi enemigo, de manera que se ha podido salvar?” Micol respondió a Saúl: “Él me dijo: «Déjame ir o te mato».” And Saul said to Michal, “Why have you deceived me in this way, and released my enemy, so that he may flee?” And Michal responded to Saul, “Because he said to me, ‘Release me, otherwise I will kill you.’ ”18Huyó, pues, David y se puso en salvo. Se fue a Ramá, donde estaba Samuel, y le dijo todo lo que Saúl le había hecho. Después se fueron, él y Samuel, y habitaron en Nayot. Now David was saved by fleeing, and he went to Samuel in Ramah. And he reported to him all that Saul had done to him. And he and Samuel went away and stayed at Naioth.19Avisaron a Saúl, diciendo: “Mira, David está en Nayot de Ramá.” Then it was reported to Saul by some, saying, “Behold, David is at Naioth, in Ramah.”20Envió, pues, Saúl gente para prender a David. Pero viendo ellos el tropel de profetas que estaban profetizando, y a Samuel en pie presidiéndolos, vino sobre la gente de Saúl el Espíritu de Dios, de manera que ellos también comenzaron a profetizar. Therefore, Saul sent officers to seize David. And when they had seen a company of prophets prophesying, with Samuel presiding over them, the Spirit of the Lord also came to them, and they also began to prophesy.21Fue avisado Saúl, el cual envió otros mensajeros, que también profetizaron. Saúl envió de nuevo mensajeros, por tercera vez; y ellos igualmente se pusieron a profetizar. And when this was reported to Saul, he sent other messengers. But they also prophesied. And again, Saul sent messengers a third time. And they also prophesied. And Saul, being exceedingly angry,22Entonces él mismo fue a Ramá; y llegado al pozo grande que hay en Secú, preguntó, diciendo: “¿Dónde están Samuel y David?” Le respondieron: “He aquí que están en Nayot de Ramá.” also went to Ramah himself. And he went as far as the great cistern, which is in Socoh. And he inquired and said, “In which place are Samuel and David?” And it was told to him, “Behold, they are at Naioth, in Ramah.”23Se dirigió allá, a Nayot de Ramá; mas también sobre él vino el Espíritu de Dios, de manera que siguió adelante profetizando, hasta llegar a Nayot de Ramá; And he went to Naioth, in Ramah, and the Spirit of the Lord came to him also. And he continued on, walking and prophesying, until he arrived at Naioth, in Ramah.24Y despojándose de sus vestidos, profetizó también él delante de Samuel; y desnudo estuvo postrado en tierra todo aquel día y toda aquella noche. De donde se suele decir: “¿También Saúl entre los profetas?” And he also took off his garments, and he prophesied with the others before Samuel. And he fell down naked, throughout that day and night. From this, too, is derived the proverb, “Could Saul also be among the prophets?”
