1 Samuel 24
1David subió de allí y se estableció en los lugares fuertes de Engadí. Then David ascended from there, and he lived in very secure places in Engedi.2Cuando Saúl volvió de la persecución de los filisteos, le dieron aviso, diciendo: “Mira, David está en el desierto de Engadí.” And when Saul had returned after pursuing the Philistines, they reported to him, saying, “Behold, David is in the desert of Engedi.”3Tomó, pues, Saúl tres mil hombres escogidos de todo Israel, y salió en busca de David y su gente hasta las rocas de Yealim. Therefore, Saul, taking three thousand elect men from all of Israel, traveled in order to search for David and his men, even upon the most broken rocks, which are passable only to mountain goats.4Y llegado a unos rediles de ovejas junto al camino, donde había una caverna, entró allí para cubrir sus pies, en tanto que David y sus hombres estaban sentados en el fondo de la caverna. And he arrived at the sheepfolds, which presented themselves along the way. And a cave was in that place, which Saul entered, so that he might ease his bowels. But David and his men were hiding in the interior part of the cave.5Entonces los hombres de David dijeron a este: “He aquí el día de que te habló Yahvé diciendo: «Mira, que voy a entregar a tu enemigo en tus manos para que hagas con él como bien te parezca».” Y se levantó David, y cortó furtivamente la orla del manto de Saúl. And the servants of David said to him: “Behold the day, about which the Lord said to you, ‘I will deliver your enemy to you, so that you may do to him as it will be pleasing in your eyes.’ ” Then David rose up, and he quietly cut off the edge of Saul’s cloak.6Mas después de esto le latía a David el corazón por haber cortado la orla (del manto) de Saúl, After this, his own heart struck David, because he had cut off the edge of Saul’s cloak.7y dijo a sus hombres: “No permita Yahvé que yo haga tal cosa contra mi señor, el ungido de Yahvé, extendiendo contra él mi mano; porque es el ungido de Yahvé.” And he said to his men: “May the Lord be gracious to me, lest I do this thing to my lord, the Christ of the Lord, so that I lay my hand upon him. For he is the Christ of the Lord.”8Con estas palabras contuvo David a sus hombres y no dejó que se levantasen contra Saúl. Salió, pues, Saúl de la caverna y siguió su camino. And David restrained his men with his words, and he would not permit them to rise up against Saul. And so Saul, going out of the cave, continued to undertake his journey.9Después de esto se levantó también David, y saliendo de la caverna se puso a gritar tras Saúl, diciendo: “¡Mi rey y señor!” Saúl miró atrás, y David inclinó el rostro hasta el suelo, y prosternándose Then David also rose up after him. And departing from the cave, he cried out behind the back of Saul, saying: “My lord, the king!” And Saul looked behind him. And David, bowing himself face down to the ground, reverenced.10dijo a Saúl: “¿Por qué escuchas las palabras de los que dicen: He aquí que David procura hacerte mal? And he said to Saul: “Why do you listen to the words of men who say: ‘David seeks evil against you?’11Mira, en este mismo día ven tus ojos cómo Yahvé te ha entregado hoy en mis manos, en la caverna; y aunque me instigaron a que te matara, me he compadecido de ti, diciéndome: No extenderé mi mano contra mi señor, porque es el ungido de Yahvé. Behold, this day your eyes have seen that the Lord has delivered you into my hand, in the cave. And I thought that I might kill you. But my eye has spared you. For I said: I will not extend my hand against my lord, for he is the Christ of the Lord.12Padre mío, mira, sí, mira en mi mano la orla de tu manto. Si yo al cortar la orla de tu manto no te he matado, podrás reconocer y ver que en mí no hay maldad ni rebeldía, y que no he pecado contra ti; y sin embargo tú estás cazando mi vida para quitármela. Moreover, see and know, O my father, the edge of your cloak in my hand. For though I cut off the top of your cloak, I was not willing to extend my hand against you. Turn your soul and see that there is no evil in my hand, nor any iniquity or sin against you. Yet you lie in wait for my life, so that you may take it away.13¡Juzgue Yahvé entre mí y ti, y sea Yahvé quien me vengue de ti!, mas yo no levantaré mi mano contra ti. May the Lord judge between me and you. And may the Lord vindicate me from you. But my hand will not be against you.14De los malos viene la maldad, dice un antiguo proverbio, pero yo no levantaré mi mano contra ti. So too, it is said in the ancient proverb, ‘From the impious, impiety will go forth.’ Therefore, my hand will not be upon you.15¿Tras quién ha salido el rey de Israel? ¿A quién estás persiguiendo? A un perro muerto, a una pulga. Whom are you pursuing, O king of Israel? Whom are you pursuing? You are pursuing a dead dog, a single flea.16¡Sea Yahvé juez, y juzgue entre tú y yo! ¡Que Él vea y defienda mi causa, y que su sentencia me libre de tu mano!” May the Lord be the judge, and may he judge between me and you. And may he see and judge my case, and rescue me from your hand.”17Cuando David hubo acabado de hablar a Saúl estas palabras, dijo Saúl: “¿Es esta tu voz, hijo mío, David?” Y alzó Saúl su voz y se puso a llorar. And when David had completed speaking words in this way to Saul, Saul said, “Could this be your voice, my son David?” And Saul lifted up his voice, and he wept.18Y dijo a David: “Más justo eres tú que yo; ya que me has hecho bien, en tanto que yo te he pagado con mal. And he said to David: “You are more just than I am. For you have distributed good to me, but I have repaid evil to you.19Hoy has manifestado tu bondad conmigo, pues cuando Yahvé me ha entregado en tus manos, no me has quitado la vida. And you have revealed this day the good that you have done for me: how the Lord delivered me into your hand, but you did not kill me.20¿Quién es el que hallando a su enemigo, lo deja seguir su camino sano y salvo? ¡Que Yahvé te haga bien en recompensa de lo que hoy has hecho conmigo! For who, when he will have found his enemy, will release him along a good path? So may the Lord repay you for this good turn, because you have acted on my behalf this day.21Ahora sé con certeza que tú reinarás, y que a tu mano pasará el reino de Israel. And now I know certainly that you shall be king, and you shall have the kingdom of Israel in your hand.22Júrame, pues, por Yahvé que no extinguirás mi descendencia después de mí, y que no borrarás mi nombre de a casa de mi padre.” Swear to me in the Lord that you will not take away my offspring after me, nor take away my name from the house of my father.”23Y David se lo juró a Saúl, y Saúl fue a su casa, mas David y sus hombres subieron al lugar fuerte. And David swore to Saul. Therefore, Saul went away to his own house. And David and his men ascended to places that were more secure.
