1Entonces Ana oró, y dijo: “Exalta mi corazón en Yahvé, en Yahvé que ha ensalzado mi brazo. Se ha abierto mi boca contra mis enemigos, pues me alegro de la salvación que de Ti he recibido. “My heart exults in the Lord, and my horn is exalted in my God. My mouth is enlarged over my enemies. For I have rejoiced in your salvation.2No hay santo como Yahvé; porque no hay otro fuera de Ti; no hay roca como nuestro Dios. Nothing is holy as the Lord is holy. For there is no other beside you. And nothing is strong as our God is strong.3No habléis tanto ni tan orgullosamente; no salgan palabras insolentes de vuestra boca; pues Yahvé es un Dios que todo lo sabe, un Dios que pesa las acciones. Do not continue speaking of great things, boasting. Let what is old depart from your mouth. For the Lord is the God of knowledge, and thoughts are prepared for him.4Se quebró el arco de los fuertes, y los débiles se han ceñido de fuerza. The bow of the powerful has been overwhelmed, and the weak have been girded with strength.5Los que antes estaban hartos se han alquilado por pan, mientras los que andaban hambrientos no tienen más hambre. La estéril ha dado a luz siete veces, y se marchitó la que muchos hijos tenía. Those who before were filled, have hired themselves out for bread. And the starving have been filled, so that the barren have given birth to many. But she who had borne many sons has become unable.6Yahvé es quien da la muerte y la vida; Él conduce al sepulcro y levanta de él. The Lord brings death, and he gives life. He leads away to death, and he brings back again.7Yahvé da la pobreza y la riqueza, abate y también ensalza. The Lord impoverishes, and he enriches. He humbles, and he lifts up.8Levanta del polvo al pobre, y saca del muladar al menesteroso, para sentarle entre los príncipes, y en herencia un trono glorioso. Pues Yahvé dio columnas a la tierra, asentó sobre ellas el orbe. He raises up the indigent from the dust, and he lifts up the poor from filth, so that they may sit with princes, and take hold of a throne of glory. For the hinges of the earth belong to the Lord, and he has placed the globe upon them.9Él guarda los pasos de sus santos; mas los impíos morirán en tinieblas, que no por fuerza prevalece el hombre. He will preserve the feet of his holy ones, and the impious will be silenced in darkness. For no man will prevail by his own strength.10Sean aplastados los enemigos de Yahvé; desde los cielos tronará contra ellos. Yahvé juzgará los extremos de la tierra; a su Rey le dará el poder, y exaltará la frente de su Ungido. The adversaries of the Lord will dread him. And over them, he will thunder in the heavens. The Lord will judge the parts of the earth, and he will give dominion to his king, and he will lift up the horn of his Christ.”11Después regresó Elcaná a Rama, a su casa; y el niño servía a Yahvé bajo la vigilancia del sacerdote Helí. And Elkanah went away to Ramah, to his house. But the boy was a minister in the sight of the Lord, before the face of Eli, the priest.12Los hijos de Helí eran hijos de Belial; no conocían a Yahvé, But the sons of Eli were sons of Belial, not knowing the Lord,13ni los deberes de los sacerdotes para con el pueblo. Pues cuando alguno ofrecía sacrificios, mientras aún se cocía la carne venía ya el criado del sacerdote, teniendo en la mano un tridente, nor the priestly office for the people. And so, no matter who had immolated a victim, the servant of the priest would arrive, while the flesh was still cooking, and he would take a three-pronged hook in his hand,14y lo metía en la caldera o en la cazuela; o en la olla, o en el puchero, y todo cuanto sacaba el tridente, lo tomaba el sacerdote para sí. Así hacían ellos con todos los israelitas que venían allí a Silo. and put it into the vessel, or into the cauldron, or into the cooking pot, or into the pan, and all that the hook lifted up, the priest took for himself. So they did to all of Israel who arrived at Shiloh.15Aun antes de quemarse el sebo, venía el criado del sacerdote, y decía al que lo inmolaba: “Dame carne para asársela al sacerdote; pues no tomará de ti carne cocida, sino cruda.” In addition, before they burned the fat, the servant of the priest would arrive, and he would say to the one who was immolating: “Give me the flesh, so that I may boil it for the priest. For I will not accept cooked meat from you, but raw.”16Y si el hombre le respondía: “Hay que quemar primero el sebo, y luego toma para ti cuanto desee tu alma”, le decía: “No, ahora mismo me la darás; de lo contrario la tomaré por fuerza.” And the one who was immolating would say to him, “First, allow the fat to be burned today, according to custom, and then take for yourself whatever your soul desires.” But in response, he would say to him: “By no means. For you will give it to me now, otherwise I will take it by force.”17Era, pues, muy grande el pecado de aquellos jóvenes delante de Yahvé; porque esos hombres trataban con desprecio las ofrendas de Yahvé. Therefore, the sin of the servants was exceedingly great before the Lord. For they drew men away from the sacrifice of the Lord.18EL niño Samuel servía ante Yahvé, ceñido de un efod de lino. But Samuel was ministering before the face of the Lord; he was a youth girded with a linen ephod.19Hacíale su madre todos los años un manto pequeño, y se lo traía cuando subía con su marido a ofrecer el sacrificio anual. And his mother fashioned a little tunic for him, which she brought to him on the appointed days, ascending with her husband, so that he might immolate the solemn sacrifice.20Y Helí bendijo a Elcaná y a su mujer, diciendo: “Yahvé te conceda hijos de esta mujer en lugar del (hijo) que ha cedido a Yahvé. Y se volvieron a su lugar. And Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife. And he said to him, “May the Lord repay to you offspring from this woman, on behalf of the loan that you offered to the Lord.” And they went away to their own place.21En efecto Yahvé visitó a Ana, y ella concibió y dio a luz tres hijos y dos hijas. Entre tanto el niño Samuel crecía en la presencia de Yahvé. Then the Lord visited Hannah, and she conceived and bore three sons and two daughters. And the youth Samuel was magnified with the Lord.22Cuando Helí, que era ya muy viejo, supo cuanto hacían sus hijos a todo Israel, y que se acostaban con las mujeres que servían a la entrada del Tabernáculo de la Reunión, Now Eli was very old, and he heard all that his sons were doing to all of Israel, and how they were sleeping with the women who were waiting at the door of the tabernacle.23les dijo: “¿Por qué hacéis tales cosas? Vosotros hacéis prevaricar al pueblo de Yahvé. My sons, do not be willing. For it is no good report that I am hearing, so that you would cause the people of the Lord to transgress.25Si un hombre peca contra otro, Dios interviene como árbitro; pero si uno peca contra Yahvé, ¿quién intercederá por él?” Mas ellos no quisieron escuchar la voz de su padre, porque Yahvé había dispuesto quitarles la vida. If a man has sinned against a man, God may be able to be appeased over him. But if a man has sinned against the Lord, who will pray for him?” But they did not listen to the voice of their father, that the Lord was willing to kill them.26Mientras tanto el niño Samuel iba creciendo, y era grato a Dios y a los hombres. But the youth Samuel advanced, and grew up, and he was pleasing to the Lord, as well as to men.27Vino a Helí un hombre de Dios, y le dijo: “Así dice Yahvé: ¿No me he bien manifestado a la casa de tu padre, cuando estaban en Egipto, en la casa del Faraón? Then a man of God went to Eli, and he said to him: “Thus says the Lord: Was I not revealed openly to the house of your father, when they were in Egypt in the house of Pharaoh?28¿No le escogí de entre todas las tribus de Israel, para sacerdote mío, para que subiese a mi altar, para que quemase el incienso y llevase el efod en mi presencia? ¿Y no di a la casa de tu padre (parte de) todas las ofrendas de los hijos de Israel ofrecidas mediante el fuego? And I chose him out of all the tribes of Israel for myself as priest, so that he might ascend to my altar, and burn incense to me, and wear the ephod before me. And I gave to the house of your father all the sacrifices of the sons of Israel.29¿Por qué, pues, habéis pisoteado mis sacrificios y mis oblaciones que Yo he mandado ofrecer en mi morada? ¿Y por qué respetas tú, más que a Mí, a tus hijos, para engordaros con lo mejor de todas las ofrendas de Israel mi pueblo? Why have you kicked away my victims and my gifts, which I instructed to be offered in the temple? And why have you given more honor to your sons than to me, so that you eat the first-fruits of every sacrifice of my people Israel?30Por eso dice Yahvé, el Dios de Israel: Yo había prometido solemnemente que tu casa y la casa de tu padre andarían delante de Mí para siempre. Mas ahora, dice Yahvé, ¡lejos de Mí sea eso! Porque Yo honraré a los que me honren, y los que me desprecien serán despreciados; Because of this, the Lord God of Israel says: I have spoken clearly, so that your house, and the house of your father, may minister in my sight, even forever. But now the Lord says: May this be far from me. Instead, whoever will have glorified me, I will glorify him. But whoever despises me, they will be despised.31He aquí que vendrán días en que Yo cortaré tu brazo y el brazo de la casa de tu padre, de modo que no haya anciano en tu casa. Behold the days are arriving, when I will cut off your arm, and the arm of the house of your father, so that there will not be an old man in your house.32Tú verás a (tu) rival en (mi) morada en todo aquel tiempo en que Él colmará de bienes a Israel. Y no habrá nunca anciano en tu casa. And you will see your rival in the temple, amid all the prosperity of Israel. And there will not be an old man in your house for all days.33Con todo no haré desaparecer a todos los tuyos de junto a mi altar, para que de este modo se consuman tus ojos y desfallezca tu alma; pero todos los descendientes de tu casa morirán apenas hayan llegado a la edad viril. Yet truly, I will not entirely take away a man of you from my altar, but such that your eyes may fail, and your soul may melt away, and a great part of your house may die out, as it pertains to the state of men.34Y te servirá de señal lo que va a suceder a tus dos hijos, Ofní y Fineés: En un mismo día morirán ambos. But this will be a sign to you, which will happen to your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas: on one day they both will die.35Suscitaré para Mí un sacerdote fiel, que obrará según mi corazón y según mi alma; y voy a edificarle casa estable, y él andará delante de mí Ungido para siempre. And I will raise up for myself a faithful priest, who will act in accord with my heart and my soul. And I will build a faithful house for him. And he will walk before my Christ for all days.36Y todo aquel que quede de tu casa vendrá, y se postrará delante de él, para (pedir) una monedita de plata y una torta de pan, diciendo: ‘Admíteme por favor a algún ministerio sacerdotal, para que tenga un bocado de pan’.” Then this will be in the future, that whoever will have remained of your house, he will approach so that he may pray on his behalf. And he will offer a coin of silver, and a twist of bread. And he will say: ‘Permit me, I beg you, one part of the priestly office, so that I may eat a mouthful of bread.’ ”
