1Por lo demás, hermanos, os rogamos y exhortamos en el Señor Jesús, que según aprendisteis de nosotros el modo en que habéis de andar y agradar a Dios —como andáis ya— así abundéis en ello más y más. Therefore, concerning other things, brothers, we ask and beg you, in the Lord Jesus, that, just as you have received from us the way in which you ought to walk and to please God, so also may you walk, in order that you may abound all the more.2Pues sabéis que preceptos os hemos dado en nombre del Señor Jesús. For you know what precepts I have given to you through the Lord Jesus.3Porque esta es la voluntad de Dios: vuestra santificación; que os abstengáis de la fornicación; For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from fornication,4que cada uno de vosotros sepa poseer su propia mujer en santificación y honra, that each one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honor,5no con pasión de concupiscencia, como los gentiles que no conocen a Dios; not in passions of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God,6que nadie engañe ni explote a su hermano en los negocios, porque el Señor es vengador de todas estas cosas, como también os dijimos antes y atestiguamos; and that no one should overwhelm or circumvent his brother in business. For the Lord is the vindicator of all these things, just as we have preached and testified to you.7porque no nos ha llamado Dios a vivir para impureza, sino en santidad. For God has not called us to impurity, but to sanctification.8Así pues el que esto rechaza, no rechaza a un hombre, sino a Dios, que también os da su santo Espíritu. And so, whoever despises these teachings, does not despise man, but God, who has even provided his Holy Spirit within us.9En cuanto al amor fraternal, no tenéis necesidad de que os escriba, puesto que vosotros mismos habéis sido enseñados por Dios a amaros mutuamente. But concerning the charity of brotherhood, we have no need to write to you. For you yourselves have learned from God that you should love one another.10Pues en realidad eso practicáis para con todos los hermanos que viven en toda la Macedonia. Os rogamos, hermanos, que lo hagáis más y más, For indeed, you act in this way with all the brothers in all of Macedonia. But we petition you, brothers, so that you may abound all the more,11y que ambicionéis la tranquilidad, ocupándoos de lo vuestro y trabajando con vuestras manos, según os lo hemos recomendado, to choose work that allows you to be tranquil, and to carry out your business and to do your work with your own hands, just as we have instructed you,12a fin de que os comportéis decorosamente ante los de afuera, y no tengáis necesidad de nadie. and to walk honestly with those who are outside, and to desire nothing belonging to another.13No queremos, hermanos, que estéis en ignorancia acerca de los que duermen, para que no os contristéis como los demás, que no tienen esperanza. And we do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, concerning those who are sleeping, so as not to be sorrowful, like these others who do not have hope.14Porque si creemos que Jesús murió y resucitó, así también (creemos que) Dios llevará con Jesús a los que durmieron en Él. For if we believe that Jesus has died and risen again, so also will God bring back with Jesus those who sleep in him.15Pues esto os decimos con palabras del Señor: que nosotros, los vivientes que quedemos hasta la Parusía del Señor, no nos adelantaremos a los que durmieron. For we say this to you, in the Word of the Lord: that we who are alive, who remain until the return of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep.16Porque el mismo Señor, dada la señal, descenderá del cielo, a la voz del arcángel y al son de la trompeta de Dios, y los muertos en Cristo resucitaran primero. For the Lord himself, with a command and with the voice of an Archangel and with a trumpet of God, shall descend from heaven. And the dead, who are in Christ, shall rise up first.17Después, nosotros los vivientes que quedemos, seremos arrebatados juntamente con ellos en nubes hacia el aire al encuentro del Señor; y así estaremos siempre con el Señor. Next, we who are alive, who are remaining, shall be taken up quickly together with them into the clouds to meet Christ in the air. And in this way, we shall be with the Lord always.18Consolaos, pues, mutuamente con estas palabras. Therefore, console one another with these words.
