1Por lo que toca a los tiempos y a las circunstancias, hermanos, no tenéis necesidad de que se os escriba. But concerning dates and times, brothers, you do not need us to write to you.2Vosotros mismos sabéis perfectamente que, como ladrón de noche, así viene el día del Señor. For you yourselves thoroughly understand that the day of the Lord shall arrive much like a thief in the night.3Cuando digan: “Paz y seguridad”, entonces vendrá sobre ellos de repente la ruina, como los dolores del parto a la que está encinta; y no escaparán. For when they will say, “Peace and security!” then destruction will suddenly overwhelm them, like the labor pains of a woman with child, and they will not escape.4Mas vosotros, hermanos, no vivís en tinieblas, para que aquel día os sorprenda como ladrón, But you, brothers, are not in darkness, so that you would be overtaken by that day as by a thief.5siendo todos vosotros hijos de la luz e hijos del día. No somos de la noche ni de las tinieblas. For all of you are sons of light and sons of daytime; we are not of nighttime, nor of darkness.6Por lo tanto, no durmamos como los demás; antes bien, velemos y seamos sobrios. Therefore, let us not sleep, as the rest do. Instead, we should be vigilant and sober.7Pues los que duermen, duermen de noche; y los que se embriagan, de noche se embriagan. For those who sleep, sleep in the night; and those who are inebriated, are inebriated in the night.8Nosotros, empero, que somos del día, seamos sobrios, vistiendo la coraza de fe y caridad y como yelmo la esperanza de salvación; But we, who are of the daylight, should be sober, being clothed with the breastplate of faith and of charity and having, as a helmet, the hope of salvation.9porque Dios no nos ha destinado para la ira, sino para adquirir la salvación por medio de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, For God has not appointed us for wrath, but for the acquisition of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,10el cual murió por nosotros, para que, ora velando, ora durmiendo, vivamos con Él. who died for us, so that, whether we watch, or whether we sleep, we may live in union with him.11Por esto exhortaos unos a otros, y edificaos recíprocamente como ya lo hacéis. Because of this, console one another and build up one another, just as you are doing.12Os rogamos, hermanos, que tengáis consideración a los que trabajan en medio de vosotros, y os dirigen en el Señor y os amonestan; And we ask you, brothers, to recognize those who labor among you, and who preside over you in the Lord, and who admonish you,13y que los estiméis muchísimo en caridad, a causa de su obra. Y entre vosotros mismos vivid en paz. so that you may consider them with an abundance of charity, for the sake of their work. Be at peace with them.14También os exhortamos, hermanos, a que amonestéis a los desordenados, que alentéis a los pusilánimes, que sostengáis a los débiles, y que seáis sufridos para con todos. And we ask you, brothers: correct the disruptive, console the weak-minded, support the sick, be patient with everyone.15Ved que nadie vuelva al otro mal por mal; antes bien, seguid haciendo en todo tiempo lo bueno el uno para con el otro y para con todos. See to it that no one repays evil for evil to anyone. Instead, always pursue whatever is good, with one another and with all.16Gozaos siempre. Rejoice always.17Orad sin cesar. Pray without ceasing.18En todo dad gracias, pues que tal es la voluntad de Dios en Cristo Jesús en orden a vosotros. Give thanks in everything. For this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for all of you.19No apaguéis el Espíritu. Do not choose to extinguish the Spirit.20No menospreciéis las profecías. Do not spurn prophecies.21Examinadlo todo y quedaos con lo bueno. But test all things. Hold on to whatever is good.22Absteneos de toda clase de mal. Abstain from every kind of evil.23El mismo Dios de la paz os santifique plenamente; y vuestro espíritu, vuestra alma y vuestro cuerpo sean conservados sin mancha para la Parusía de nuestro Señor Jesucristo. And may the God of peace himself sanctify you through all things, so that your whole spirit and soul and body may be preserved without blame unto the return of our Lord Jesus Christ.24Fiel es El que os llama, y Él también lo hará. He who has called you is faithful. He shall act even now.25Hermanos, orad por nosotros. Brothers, pray for us.26Saludad a todos los hermanos en ósculo santo. Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.27Os conjuro por el Señor que sea leída esta epístola a todos los hermanos. I bind you, through the Lord, that this epistle is to be read to all the holy brothers.28La gracia de nuestro Señor Jesucristo sea con vosotros. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
