1 Timoteo 1

1Pablo, apóstol de Cristo Jesús, por el mandato de Dios nuestro Salvador, y de Cristo Jesús, nuestra esperanza, Paul, an Apostle of Jesus Christ by the authority of God our Savior and Christ Jesus our hope,2a Timoteo, verdadero hijo en la fe: gracia, misericordia y paz, de parte de Dios Padre, y de Cristo Jesús nuestro Señor. to Timothy, beloved son in the faith. Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and from Christ Jesus our Lord.3Al irme a Macedonia te pedí que te quedaras en Éfeso para mandar a ciertas personas que no enseñen diferente doctrina, Now I asked you to remain at Ephesus, while I went into Macedonia, so that you would speak strongly against certain ones who have been teaching a different way,4ni presten atención a fábulas y genealogías interminables, que sirven más bien para disputas que para la obra de Dios por medio de la fe. against those who have been paying attention to fables and endless genealogies. These things present questions as if they were greater than the edification that is of God, which is in faith.5El fin de la predicación es el amor de un corazón puro, de conciencia recta y cuya fe no sea fingida; Now the goal of instruction is charity from a pure heart, and a good conscience, and an unfeigned faith.6de la cual desviándose algunos han venido a dar en vana palabrería. Certain persons, wandering away from these things, have been turned aside to empty babbling,7Deseaban ser maestros de la Ley, sin entender ni lo que dicen ni lo que con tanto énfasis afirman. desiring to be teachers of the law, but understanding neither the things that they themselves are saying, nor what they are affirming about these things.8Sabemos que la Ley es buena, pero si uno la usa como es debido, But we know that the law is good, if one makes use of it properly.9teniendo presente que la Ley no fue dada para los justos, sino para los prevaricadores y rebeldes, para los impíos y pecadores, para los facinerosos e irreligiosos, para los parricidas y matricidas, para los homicidas, Knowing this, that the law was not set in place for the just, but for the unjust and the insubordinate, for the impious and sinners, for the wicked and the defiled, for those who commit patricide, matricide, or homicide,10fornicarios, sodomitas, secuestradores de hombres, mentirosos, perjuros, y cuanto otro vicio haya contrario a la sana doctrina, for fornicators, for males who sleep with males, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine,11la cual es según el Evangelio de la gloria del bendito Dios, cuya predicación me ha sido confiada. which is in accord with the Gospel of the glory of the blessed God, the Gospel which has been entrusted to me.12Doy gracias a Aquel que me fortaleció, a Cristo Jesús, Señor nuestro, de haberme tenido por fiel, poniéndome en el ministerio; I give thanks to him who has strengthened me, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he has considered me faithful, placing me in the ministry,13a mí, que antes fui blasfemo y perseguidor y violento, mas fui objeto de misericordia, por haberlo hecho con ignorancia, en incredulidad; though previously I was a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and contemptuous. But then I obtained the mercy of God. For I had been acting ignorantly, in unbelief.14y la gracia de nuestro Señor sobreabundó con fe y amor en Cristo Jesús. And so the grace of our Lord has abounded greatly, with the faith and love that is in Christ Jesus.15Fiel es esta palabra y digna de ser recibida de todos: que Cristo Jesús vino al mundo para salvar a los pecadores, de los cuales el primero soy yo. It is a faithful saying, and worthy of acceptance by everyone, that Christ Jesus came into this world to bring salvation to sinners, among whom I am first.16Mas para esto se me hizo misericordia, a fin de que Jesucristo mostrase toda su longanimidad en mí, el primero, como prototipo de los que después habían de creer en Él para (alcanzar la) vida eterna. But it was for this reason that I obtained mercy, so that in me as first, Christ Jesus would display all patience, for the instruction of those who would believe in him unto eternal life.17Al rey de los siglos, al inmortal, invisible, al solo Dios, honor y gloria por los siglos de los siglos. Amén. So then, to the King of ages, to the immortal, invisible, solitary God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.18Este mandato te transfiero, hijo mío, Timoteo, conforme a las profecías hechas anteriormente sobre ti, a fin de que siguiéndolas milites la buena milicia, This precept I commend to you, my son Timothy, in accord with the prophets who preceded you: that you serve among them like a soldier in a good war,19conservando la fe y la buena conciencia, la cual algunos desecharon naufragando en la fe; holding to faith and good conscience, against those who, by rejecting these things, have made a shipwreck of the faith.20entre ellos Himeneo y Alejandro, a los cuales he entregado a Satanás para que aprendan a no blasfemar. Among these are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan, so that they may learn not to blaspheme.
