1Fiel es esta palabra: si alguno desea el episcopado, buena obra desea. It is a faithful saying: if a man desires the episcopate, he desires a good work.2Mas es necesario que el obispo sea irreprensible, marido de una sola mujer, sobrio, prudente, modesto, hospitalario, capaz de enseñar; Therefore, it is necessary for a bishop to be beyond reproach, the husband of one wife, sober, prudent, gracious, chaste, hospitable, a teacher,3no dado al vino, no violento sino moderado; no pendenciero, no codicioso, not a drunkard, not combative but restrained, not quarrelsome, not covetous;4que sepa gobernar bien su propia casa, que tenga sus hijos en sumisión con toda decencia; but a man who leads his own house well, having children who are subordinate with all chastity.5—pues si uno no sabe gobernar su propia casa ¿cómo podrá cuidar de la Iglesia de Dios?— For if a man does not know how to lead his own house, how will he take care of the Church of God?6no neófito, no sea que —hinchado— venga a caer en el juicio del diablo.
