1Consolidado y afianzado que hubo el reino, abandonó Roboam la Ley de Yahvé, y con él todo Israel. And when the kingdom of Rehoboam had been strengthened and fortified, he abandoned the law of the Lord, and all of Israel with him.2Y sucedió que el año quinto del rey Roboam subió Sesac, rey de Egipto, contra Jerusalén —porque (sus habitantes) no eran fieles a Yahvé— Then, in the fifth year of the reign of Rehoboam, Shishak, the king of Egypt, ascended against Jerusalem (for they had sinned against the Lord)3con mil doscientos carros y sesenta mil jinetes; y no se podía contar la gente que venía con él de Egipto: libios, suquitas y etíopes. with one thousand two hundred chariots and sixty thousand horsemen. And the common people could not be numbered who had arrived with him from Egypt, namely, the Libyans, and the Troglodytes, and the Ethiopians.4Tomó las ciudades fortificadas de Judá y llegó hasta Jerusalén. And he seized the most fortified cities in Judah, and he went even to Jerusalem.5Entonces el profeta Semeías vino a Roboam y a los jefes de Judá, que se habían reunido en Jerusalén por miedo a Sesac, y les dijo: “Así dice Yahvé: Vosotros me habéis abandonado, y por esto también Yo os abandono en poder de Sesac.” Then Shemaiah, the prophet, entered to Rehoboam, and to the leaders of Judah who had gathered together in Jerusalem while fleeing from Shishak, and he said to them: “Thus says the Lord: You have abandoned me, and so I have abandoned you into the hand of Shishak.”6Efectivamente los príncipes de Israel y el rey se humillaron y dijeron: “¡Justo es Yahvé!” And the leaders of Israel, and the king, being in consternation, said, “The Lord is just.”7Cuando Yahvé vio que se habían humillado, llegó a Semeías la palabra de Yahvé, que decía: “Por haberse ellos humillado, no los destruiré, sino que les concederé un poco de salvación, y no se derramará mi ira sobre Jerusalén por mano de Sesac. And when the Lord had seen that they were humbled, the word of the Lord came to Shemaiah, saying: “Because they have been humbled, I will not disperse them. And I will give to them a little help, and my fury will not rain down upon Jerusalem by the hand of Shishak.8Pero le quedarán sujetos, para que conozcan lo que es mi servidumbre y la servidumbre de los reinos de los países.” Yet truly, they shall serve him, so that they may know the difference between my servitude, and the servitude of a kingdom of the lands.”9Subió, pues, Sesac rey de Egipto contra Jerusalén y tomó los tesoros de la Casa de Yahvé y los tesoros de la casa real. And so Shishak, the king of Egypt, withdrew from Jerusalem, taking up the treasures of the house of the Lord and of the house of the king. And he took away everything with him, even the gold shields that Solomon had made.10En su lugar hizo el rey Roboam escudos de bronce, que entregó en manos de los jefes de la guardia que custodiaban la entrada de la casa del rey. In place of these, the king made bronze ones, and he delivered them to the leaders of the shield bearers, who were guarding the vestibule of the palace.11Y siempre que el rey iba a la Casa de Yahvé, venían los de la guardia y los llevaban; y después volvían a ponerlos en la cámara de la guardia. And when the king would enter into the house of the Lord, the shield bearers would arrive and take them, and they would carry them back to their armory.12A raíz de su humillación se apartó de él la ira de Yahvé, el cual no le destruyó del todo, pues se hallaban aún en Judá algunas obras buenas. Yet truly, because they were humbled, the wrath of the Lord turned away from them, and so they were not utterly destroyed. And indeed, good works were also found in Judah.13El rey Roboam se fortaleció en Jerusalén, y reinó. Roboam tenía cuarenta y un años cuando empezó a reinar, y diez y siete años reinó en Jerusalén, la ciudad que Yahvé había escogido de entre todas las tribus de Israel para poner allí su Nombre. Su madre se llamaba Naamá, ammonita. Therefore, king Rehoboam was strengthened in Jerusalem, and he reigned. He was forty-one years old when he had begun to reign, and he reigned for seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city that the Lord chose out of all the tribes of Israel, so that he might confirm his name there. Now the name of his mother was Naamah, an Ammonite.14Hizo lo que era malo, porque no había dispuesto su corazón para buscar a Yahvé. But he did evil, and he did not prepare his heart so as to seek the Lord.15Las actividades de Roboam, las primeras y las postreras, ¿no están escritas exactamente en la historia del profeta Semeías y del vidente Iddó? Entre Roboam y Jeroboam hubo continuamente guerra. Truly, the works of Rehoboam, the first and the last, have been written in the books of Shemaiah, the prophet, and of Iddo, the seer, and diligently set forth. And Rehoboam and Jeroboam fought against one another during all their days.16Roboam se durmió con sus padres, y fue sepultado en la ciudad de David. En su lugar reinó su hijo Abías. And Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and he was buried in the City of David. And his son, Abijah, reigned in his place.
