2 Crónicas 14
1Abías se durmió con sus padres, y fue sepultado en la ciudad de David. Reinó en su lugar su hijo Asá, en cuyo tiempo el país tuvo paz durante diez años. Then Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the City of David. And his son, Asa, reigned in his place. During his days, the land was quiet for ten years.2Asá hizo lo que era bueno y recto a los ojos de Yahvé, su Dios. Suprimió los altares extraños y los lugares altos; Now Asa did what was good and pleasing in the sight of his God. And he overturned the altars of foreign worship, and the high places.3quebró las piedras de culto, taló las ascheras And he broke apart the statues, and he cut down the sacred groves.4e inculcó a Judá que buscase a Yahvé, el Dios de sus padres y cumpliese la Ley de los mandamientos. And he instructed Judah that they should seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, and that they should carry out the law and all the commandments.5En todas las ciudades de Judá hizo desaparecer los lugares altos y los pilares del sol; y el reino estuvo en paz bajo su reinado. And he took away, from all the cities of Judah, the altars and the shrines. And he reigned in peace.6Edificó ciudades fuertes en Judá, porque el país estaba en paz, y no hubo guerra contra él por aquellos años; pues Yahvé le había dado reposo. Also, he built fortified cities in Judah. For it was quiet, and in his time no wars had arisen. For the Lord was generously granting peace.7Dijo (Asá) a Judá: “Edifiquemos estas ciudades, cercándolas de murallas, torres, puertas y cerrojos, mientras el país esté (en paz) delante de nosotros; porque hemos buscado a Yahvé nuestro Dios; y por haberle buscado, Él nos ha dado reposo de todas partes.” Edificaron y prosperaron. Then he said to Judah: “Let us build these cities, and strengthen them with walls, and fortify them with towers and gates and bars, while all things are at rest from wars. For we have sought the Lord, the God of our fathers, and he has granted to us peace on every side.” And so they built, and there was nothing to impede them from building.8Asa tenía un ejército de trescientos mil hombres de Judá, que llevaban broquel y lanza, y de doscientos ochenta mil de Benjamín, que llevaban escudos y eran arqueros; todos estos valientes guerreros. Now Asa had in his army three hundred thousand men of Judah, carrying shields and spears, and truly, of Benjamin, two hundred eighty thousand men with shields and bows. All of these were very valiant men.9Salió contra ellos Zarah etíope con un ejército de un millón (de hombres) y trescientos carros, y llegó hasta Maresá. Then Zerah, the Ethiopian, went forth against them with his army of one million men, and three hundred chariots. And he approached as far as Mareshah.10Asá salió contra él, y se pusieron en orden de batalla en el valle de Sefata, junto a Maresá. And Asa traveled to meet him, and he set up a battle line for the war in the Valley of Zephathah, which is near Mareshah.11Entonces Asá invocó a Yahvé, su Dios, y dijo: “¡Oh Yahvé, en tu poder está ayudar a los fuertes o a los que no tienen ninguna fuerza! Ayúdanos, pues, Yahvé, Dios nuestro, porque en Ti nos apoyamos y en tu nombre hemos salido contra esta inmensa multitud. ¡Yahvé, Tú eres nuestro Dios! ¡No prevalezca contra Ti hombre alguno!” And he called upon the Lord God, and he said: “O Lord, there is no difference to you, whether you assist by few, or by many. Help us, O Lord our God. For having faith in you and in your name, we have gone forth against this multitude. O Lord, you are our God. Do not allow man to prevail against you.”12En efecto, Yahvé deshizo a los etíopes delante de Asá y Judá; y los etíopes se pusieron en fuga. And so the Lord terrified the Ethiopians before Asa and Judah. And the Ethiopians fled.13Asá y la gente que con él estaba, los persiguieron hasta Gerar; y cayeron de los etíopes tantos que no pudieron rehacerse, pues fueron destrozados delante de Yahvé y su ejército; y (los de Judá) se llevaron un botín inmenso. And Asa, and the people who were with him, pursued them as far as Gerar. And the Ethiopians fell, even unto utter destruction, for the Lord was striking, and his army was battling, and they were destroyed. Therefore, they took many spoils.14Destruyeron también todas las ciudades en los alrededores de Gerar; porque el terror de Yahvé las había invadido; y, saquearon todas las ciudades, pues había en ellas un gran botín. And they struck all the cities surrounding Gerar. For indeed, a great fear had overwhelmed everyone. And they despoiled the cities, and they carried away much plunder.15Asimismo atacaron las majadas y capturaron gran cantidad de ovejas y camellos. Después se volvieron a Jerusalén. Then too, destroying the fencing for the sheep, they took an innumerable multitude of cattle and camels. And they returned to Jerusalem.
