1Veinte y cinco años tenía Amasías cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó veinte y nueve años en Jerusalén. Su madre se llamaba Joadán, de Jerusalén. Amaziah was twenty-five years old when he had begun to reign. And he reigned for twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. The name of his mother was Jehoaddan, from Jerusalem.2Hizo lo que era recto a los ojos de Yahvé, aunque no con corazón perfecto. And he accomplished good in the sight of the Lord. Yet truly, not with a perfect heart.3Después de haberse afirmado su reino, dio muerte a sus siervos, que habían matado al rey su padre; And when he saw himself to be strengthened in his rule, he cut the throats of the servants who had killed his father, the king.4pero no dio muerte a los hijos de ellos, conforme a lo escrito en la Ley, en el Libro de Moisés, donde Yahvé había prescrito, diciendo: “No han de morir los padres por los hijos, ni los hijos han de morir por los padres, sino que cada uno morirá por su propio pecado.” But he did not put to death their sons, just as it was written in the book of the law of Moses, where the Lord instructed, saying: “The fathers shall not be slain because of the sons, nor the sons because of their fathers. Instead, each one shall die for his own sin.”5Amasías congregó a Judá, y los organizó en todo Judá y Benjamín, según las casas paternas, bajo jefes de miles y jefes de cientos; e hizo el censo de ellos, desde los veinte años arriba, y halló que eran trescientos mil hombres escogidos, aptos para la guerra y el manejo de lanza y broquel. And then Amaziah gathered together Judah, and he organized them by families, and tribunes, and centurions, throughout all of Judah and Benjamin. And he numbered them from twenty years old and upward. And he found three hundred thousand young men, who could go forth to battle, and who could hold spear and shield.6Tomó también a sueldo de Israel a cien mil hombres valientes, por cien talentos de plata. Also, he hired for pay from Israel one hundred thousand experienced men, for one hundred talents of silver.7Pero vino a él un varón de Dios, que le dijo: “Oh rey, que no salga contigo el ejército de Israel, porque Yahvé no está con Israel, con ninguno de los hijos de Efraím; Then a man of God came to him, and he said: “O king, let not the army of Israel go forth with you. For the Lord is not with Israel, nor with all the sons of Ephraim.8antes bien, sal tú solo y hazte fuerte para la guerra, para que Dios (no) te haga caer delante del enemigo; porque Dios tiene poder para ayudar y para derribar.” But if you think that a war stands by the strength of the army, God will cause you to be overwhelmed by the enemies. For indeed, it belongs to God to assist, and to put to flight.”9Dijo Amasías al varón de Dios: “¿Qué será de los cien talentos que he dado a la gente de Israel?” A lo que contestó el varón de Dios: “Tiene Yahvé poder para darte mucho más que eso.” And Amaziah said to the man of God, “Then what will become of the one hundred talents, which I gave to the soldiers of Israel?” And the man of God responded to him, “The Lord has that from which he is able to give much more than this to you.”10Entonces Amasías despidió los destacamentos que le habían venido de Efraím, para que se volviesen a su país. And so, Amaziah separated the army, which had come to him from Ephraim, so that they would return to their place. Then Amaziah confidently led forth his people. And he went away to the Valley of the Salt Pits, and he struck down ten thousand of the sons of Seir.12A (otros) diez mil los apresaron vivos los hijos de Judá, y llevándolos a la cumbre de la peña los precipitaron desde la cumbre de la peña, y todos ellos quedaron destrozados. And the sons of Judah captured another ten thousand of the men. And they led them to the precipice of a certain rock. And they threw them from the summit, and they were all broken apart.13Entretanto los de la gente que Amasías había despedido, para que no fuesen con él a la guerra, se derramaron por las ciudades de Judá, desde Samaria hasta Bethorón, mataron en ellas tres mil personas y tomaron mucho botín. But the army that Amaziah had sent away, so that they would not go with him into battle, spread out among the cities of Judah, from Samaria as far as Beth-horon. And having killed three thousand, they took away much plunder.14Volviendo Amasías de la derrota de los idumeos, trajo consigo los dioses de los hijos de Seír; los puso por dioses suyos, se postró ante ellos y les quemó incienso. Truly, after the slaughter of the Edomites, and when the gods of the sons of Seir were brought, Amaziah chose them as gods for himself. And he was adoring them, and burning incense to them.15Entonces se encendió la ira de Yahvé contra Amasías, y le envió un profeta, que le dijo: “¿Por qué has buscado a los dioses de ese pueblo, que no han podido librar de tu mano a su propia gente?” For this reason, the Lord became angry against Amaziah, and he sent a prophet to him, who would say to him, “Why have you adored gods who did not free their own people from your hand?”16Mientras él así le hablaba, (Amasías) le interrumpió: “¿Acaso te hemos hecho a ti consejero del rey? ¡Cállate! De otro modo te van a matar.” El profeta se calló, más le dijo: “Yo sé que Dios ha determinado destruirte, porque has hecho esto y no quieres escuchar mi consejo.” And after he spoke these things, he responded to him: “Are you the counselor of the king? Be quiet! Otherwise I will put you to death.” And departing, the prophet said, “I know that God has decided to kill you, because you have done this evil, and also because you have not agreed to my counsel.”17Amasías, rey de Judá, después de haber deliberado envió mensajeros a Joás, hijo de Joacaz, hijo de Jehú, rey de Israel, para decirle: “¡Ven, que nos veamos cara a cara!” And so Amaziah, the king of Judah, undertaking a very wicked counsel, sent to Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, the king of Israel, saying: “Come, let us see one another.”18Pero Joás, rey de Israel, mandó a decir a Amasías, rey de Judá: “El cardo del Líbano envió a decir al cedro del Líbano: Da tu hija por mujer a mi hijo. But he sent back messengers, saying: “The thistle which is in Lebanon sent to the cedar of Lebanon, saying: ‘Give your daughter to my son as wife.’ And behold, the beasts that were in the forest of Lebanon passed through, and they trampled the thistle.19Tú dices: He aquí que he derrotado a Edom. Por eso te lleva tu corazón a jactarte. Quédate ahora en tu casa. ¿Por qué quieres provocar la calamidad, para que caigas tú, y Judá contigo?” You said, ‘I struck down Edom.’ And for this reason, your heart is lifted up with pride. Settle in your own house. Why do you provoke evil against yourself, so that you may fall, and then Judah with you?”20Pero Amasías no hizo caso, pues era disposición de Dios entregarlos en manos (de sus enemigos), por haber buscado a los dioses de Edom. Amaziah was not willing to listen to him, because it was the will of the Lord that he be delivered into the hands of the enemies, because of the gods of Edom.21Salió, pues, Joás, rey de Israel, y se vieron cara a cara, él y Amasías, rey de Judá, en Betsemes, que pertenece a Judá. And so Joash, the king of Israel, ascended, and they presented themselves within the sight of one another. Now Amaziah, the king of Judah, was in Beth-shemesh of Judah.22Y fue derrotado Judá por Israel, y huyeron, cada cual a su tienda. And Judah fell before Israel. Then Joash, the king of Israel, captured Amaziah, the king of Judah, the son of Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, at Beth-shemesh, and he led him to Jerusalem. And he destroyed its walls, from the gate of Ephraim as far as the gate of the corner, four hundred cubits.24(Tomó) todo el oro y la plata, y todos los utensilios que se hallaban con Obededom en la Casa de Dios, y los tesoros de la casa del rey, y también rehenes. Después se volvió a Samaria. Also, he brought back to Samaria all the gold and silver, and all the vessels, which he had found in the house of God, and with Obededom in the treasuries of the king’s house, as well as sons for hostages.25Amasías, hijo de Joás, rey de Judá, vivió quince años después de la muerte de Joás, hijo de Joacaz, rey de Israel. Then Amaziah, the son of Joash, the king of Judah, lived for fifteen years after the death of Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, the king of Israel.26Los demás hechos de Amasías, los primeros y los postreros, he aquí que están escritos en el libro de los reyes de Judá y de Israel. Now the rest of the words of Amaziah, the first and the last, have been written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.27Después que Amasías se apartó de Yahvé, conspiraron contra él en Jerusalén, por lo cual huyo a Laquís; pero enviaron tras él gentes a Laquís que allí le dieron muerte. And after he withdrew from the Lord, they set up an ambush against him in Jerusalem. But since he had fled into Lachish, they sent and killed him in that place.28Transportaron (el cadáver) en caballos y lo sepultaron con sus padres en la ciudad de Judá. And having carried him back upon horses, they buried him with his fathers in the City of David.
