1Josías tenía ocho años cuando empezó a reinar, y reinó treinta y un años en Jerusalén. Josiah was eight years old when he had begun to reign, and he reigned for thirty-one years in Jerusalem.2Hizo lo que era recto a los ojos de Yahvé, andando por los caminos de su padre David sin apartarse ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda. And he did what was right in the sight of the Lord, and he walked in the ways of his father David. He did not turn away, neither to the right, nor to the left.3A los ocho años de su reinado, siendo todavía joven, comenzó a buscar al Dios de su padre David, y en el año doce empezó a limpiar a Judá y Jerusalén de los lugares altos, de las ascheras, de las estatuas y de las imágenes de fundición. Now in the eighth year of his reign, when he was still a boy, he began to seek the God of his father David. And in the twelfth year after he had begun to reign, he cleansed Judah and Jerusalem from the high places, and the sacred groves, and the idols, and the graven images.4Derribaron en su presencia los altares de los Baales, cortaron los pilares del sol, puestos en ellos, y quebró las ascheras, las imágenes y las piedras de culto reduciéndolas a polvo, que esparció sobre las sepulturas de los que les habían ofrecido sacrificios. And in his sight, they destroyed the altars of the Baals, and they demolished the idols which had been set upon them. And then he cut down the sacred groves and crushed the graven images. And he scattered the fragments upon the tombs of those who had been accustomed to immolate to them.5Quemó los huesos de los sacerdotes sobre sus altares, y limpió a Judá y a Jerusalén. And after that, he burned the bones of the priests upon the altars of the idols. And so did he cleanse Judah and Jerusalem.6En las ciudades de Manasés, de Efraím y de Simeón, y hasta en Neftalí —en medio de las ruinas que las rodeaban— Then too, in the cities of Manasseh, and of Ephraim, and of Simeon, even to Naphtali, he overturned everything.7derribó los altares, demolió las ascheras y las estatuas y las redujo a polvo, y cortó todos los pilares del sol en toda la tierra de Israel. And when he had destroyed the altars and the sacred groves, and had broken the idols to pieces, and when all the profane shrines had been demolished from the entire land of Israel, he returned to Jerusalem.8El año diez y ocho de su reinado, después de haber limpiado el país y la Casa (de Dios), mandó a Safán, hijo de Asalías, a Maasías, comandante de la ciudad, y a Joah, hijo de Joacaz, cronista, que se encargasen de la reparación de la Casa de Yahvé, su Dios. And so, in the eighteenth year of his reign, having now cleansed the land and the temple of the Lord, he sent Shaphan, the son of Azaliah, and Maaseiah, the ruler of the city, and Joah, the son of Joahaz, the historian, to repair the house of the Lord his God.9Fueron ellos al Sumo Sacerdote Helcías, y entregaron el dinero traído a la Casa de Dios y el que los levitas porteros habían recaudado de Manasés y de Efraím y de todo el resto de Israel, como también de todo Judá y Benjamín, y de los habitantes de Jerusalén, And they went to Hilkiah, the high priest. And having accepted from him the money which had been brought into the house of the Lord, and which the Levites and porters had gathered together from Manasseh, and Ephraim, and the entire remnant of Israel, and also from all of Judah, and Benjamin, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem,10a los encargados de las obras de la Casa de Yahvé; y estos lo dieron a los obreros que trabajaban en la Casa de Yahvé para reparar y restaurar la Casa. they delivered it into the hands of those who were in charge of the workers in the house of the Lord, so that they might repair the temple, and restore whatever was weak.11Lo dieron a los carpinteros y obreros de construcción para comprar piedras talladas y maderas para las trabazones y para el maderamen de los edificios destruidos por los reyes de Judá. And they gave it to the artisans and the stoneworkers, so that they might buy stones from the quarries, and wood for the joints of the building and for the upper floors of the houses, which the kings of Judah had destroyed.12Estos hombres hacían la obra con probidad. Estaban sobre ellos Jáhat y Obadías, levitas de los hijos de Merarí, y Zacarías y Mesullam, de los hijos de los caatitas, que los dirigían, así como otros levitas; todos ellos maestros en tañer instrumentos músicos. And they did everything faithfully. Now the overseers of the workers were Jahath and Obadiah, from the sons of Merari, and Zechariah and Meshullam, from the sons of Kohath, who were supervising the work. All were Levites who knew how to play musical instruments.13Dirigían ellos también a los peones de carga y a todos los que hacían la obra, en cualquier clase de trabajo. Entre los levitas, había, además, escribas, comisarios y porteros. Truly, scribes and teachers, from among the Levites who were porters, were over those who were carrying burdens for various uses.14Cuando se sacaba el dinero depositado en la Casa de Yahvé, halló el sacerdote Helcías el Libro de la Ley de Yahvé, dada por Moisés; And when they carried out the money that had been brought into the temple of the Lord, Hilkiah the priest found the book of the law of the Lord by the hand of Moses.15y dirigiéndose al secretario Safán, dijo Helcías: “He hallado el Libro de la Ley en la Casa de Yahvé”; y se lo entregó a Safán. And he said to Shaphan, the scribe: “I have found the book of the law in the house of the Lord.” And he delivered it to him.16Safán llevó el libro al rey, y rindiéndole cuenta, dijo: “Tus siervos están haciendo todo lo que les ha sido encargado. Then he took the volume to the king, and he reported to him, saying: “Behold, everything that you entrusted to your servants is completed.17Pues han vaciado el dinero encontrado en la Casa de Yahvé, y lo han entregado a los sobrestantes y a los que hacen la obra.” They have melted together the silver that was found in the house of the Lord. And it has been given to the overseers of the artisans and craftsmen for various works.18El secretario Safán dio al rey también la siguiente noticia: “El sacerdote Helcías me ha entregado un libro.” Y Safán lo leyó ante el rey. After this, Hilkiah the priest gave to me this book.” And when he had read it in the presence of the king,19Cuando el rey oyó las palabras de la Ley, rasgó sus vestiduras, and he had heard the words of the law, he tore his garments.20y dio a Helcías, a Ahicam, hijo de Safán, a Abdón, hijo de Mica, a Safán secretario, y a Asayá, siervo del rey, esta orden: And he instructed Hilkiah, and Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, and Abdon, the son of Micah, and also Shaphan, the scribe, and Asaiah, the servant of the king, saying:21“¡Id!, consultad a Yahvé por mí, y por el resto de Israel y de Judá, acerca de las palabras del libro que ha sido hallado; porque grande es la cólera de Yahvé que se ha derramado sobre nosotros; pues nuestros padres han transgredido la palabra de Yahvé, no haciendo conforme a todo lo escrito en este libro.” “Go, and pray to the Lord for me, and for the remnant of Israel and Judah, concerning all the words of this book, which has been found. For the great fury of the Lord has rained down upon us, because our fathers did not keep the words of the Lord, to do all that has been written in this volume.”22Entonces Helcías y los (enviados) del rey, fueron a la profetisa Hulda, mujer del guardarropa Sellum, hijo de Tocat, hijo de Hasrá. Esta habitaba en Jerusalén, en el barrio segundo; y después que ellos la consultaron al respecto, Therefore, Hilkiah, and those who had been sent with him by the king, went to Huldah, the prophetess, the wife of Shallum, the son of Tokhath, the son of Hasrah, the keeper of the vestments. She was living in Jerusalem, in the second part. And they spoke to her the words which we explained above.23ella les respondió: “Así dice Yahvé, el Dios de Israel: Decid al que os ha enviado a mí: And she responded to them: “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Tell the man who sent you to me:24Así dice Yahvé: «He aquí que haré venir males sobre este lugar y sus habitantes: todas las maldiciones escritas en el libro que se ha leído delante del rey de Judá. Thus says the Lord: Behold, I will lead in evils over this place, and over its inhabitants, with all the curses that have been written in this book, which they have read before the king of Judah.25En castigo de haberme ellos dejado y quemado incienso a otros dioses, irritándome con todas las obras de sus manos, mi ira se ha derramado sobre este lugar, y no se apagará.» For they have abandoned me, and they have sacrificed to foreign gods, so that they provoked me to wrath by all the works of their hands. Therefore, my fury will rain down upon this place, and it will not be extinguished.26Dad al rey de Judá que os ha enviado a consultar a Yahvé, esta respuesta: Así dice Yahvé, el Dios de Israel, acerca de las palabras que has oído: To the king of Judah, who sent you to petition before the Lord, so shall you speak: Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Since you listened to the words of this volume,27«Por cuanto se ha enternecido tu corazón y te has humillado delante de Dios, al oír sus palabras contra este lugar y sus habitantes, y porque te has humillado ante Mí, rasgando tus vestidos y llorando en mi presencia, por eso también Yo te he oído, dice Yahvé. and your heart was softened, and you humbled yourself in the sight of God concerning these things which have been said against this place and against the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and since, revering my face, you have torn your garments, and have wept before me: I also have heeded you, says the Lord.28He aquí que te reuniré con tus padres, y serás recogido en paz en tu sepulcro; y tus ojos no verán ninguno de los males que haré venir sobre este lugar y sus moradores.»” Ellos llevaron al rey esta respuesta. For now I will gather you to your fathers, and you will be brought into your sepulcher in peace. Neither shall your eyes see all the evil that I will lead in, over this place and over its inhabitants.” And so they took back to the king all that she had said.29Entonces el rey hizo reunir a todos los ancianos de Judá y de Jerusalén; And he, calling together all those greater by birth of Judah and Jerusalem,30y después de subir a la Casa de Yahvé, con todos los hombres de Judá y los habitantes de Jerusalén, los sacerdotes y los levitas, y todo el pueblo desde el mayor hasta el menor, leyó a oídos de ellos todas las palabras del Libro de la Alianza que había sido encontrado en la Casa de Yahvé. ascended to the house of the Lord, united with all the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the priests and the Levites, and all the people, from the least even to the greatest. And in their hearing, in the house of the Lord, the king read all the words of the volume.31Y puesto en pie en su estrado hizo el rey alianza en la presencia de Yahvé (prometiendo) que seguirían a Yahvé y guardarían sus mandamientos, sus testimonios y sus preceptos con todo su corazón y con toda su alma, cumpliendo las palabras de la Alianza escritas en el libro. And standing up at his tribunal, he struck a covenant before the Lord, so that he would walk after him, and would keep his precepts and testimonies and justifications, with his whole heart and with his whole soul, and so that he would do the things that were written in that volume, which he had read.32Después hizo entrar en el pacto a cuantos se hallaban en Jerusalén y en Benjamín. Y los habitantes de Jerusalén obraron conforme a la Alianza de Dios, el Dios de sus padres. Also, concerning this, he bound by oath all who had been found in Jerusalem and Benjamin. And the inhabitants of Jerusalem acted in accord with the covenant of the Lord, the God of their fathers.33Josías extirpó todas las abominaciones de todo el territorio que pertenecía a los hijos de Israel, y obligó a todos los que moraban en Jerusalén a servir a Yahvé su Dios. Y mientras él vivió no se apartaron de Yahvé, el Dios de sus padres. Therefore, Josiah took away all the abominations from all the regions of the sons of Israel. And he caused all who were remaining in Israel to serve the Lord their God. During all his days, they did not withdraw from the Lord, the God of their fathers.
