1Entonces el pueblo del país tomó a Joacaz, hijo de Josías, y le proclamaron rey en Jerusalén, en lugar de su padre. Then the people of the land took Jehoahaz, the son of Josiah, and they appointed him king in place of his father, in Jerusalem.2Joacaz tenía veinte y tres años cuando empezó a reinar, y reinó tres meses en Jerusalén. Jehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he had begun to reign, and he reigned for three months in Jerusalem.3El rey de Egipto le destituyó en Jerusalén, e impuso al país una contribución de cien talentos de plata y un talento de oro. Then the king of Egypt, when he had arrived in Jerusalem, removed him, and condemned the land to one hundred talents of silver and one talent of gold.4El rey de Egipto puso por rey sobre Judá y Jerusalén a Eliaquim, hermano de (Joacaz), cambiándole el nombre por el de Joakim. Y a Joacaz, su hermano, le tomó Necao y le llevó a Egipto. And he appointed Eliakim, his brother, as king in his place, over Judah and Jerusalem. And he changed his name to Jehoiakim. Truly, he took Jehoahaz with him, and he led him away to Egypt.5Joakim tenía veinte y cinco años cuando empezó a reinar, y reinó once años en Jerusalén. Hizo lo que era malo a los ojos de Yahvé, su Dios. Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he had begun to reign, and he reigned for eleven years in Jerusalem. And he did evil before the Lord his God.6Subió Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, contra él, y le ató con cadenas de bronce para conducirle a Babilonia. Nebuchadnezzar, the king of the Chaldeans, ascended against him, and led him bound in chains to Babylon.7Nabucodonosor llevó a Babilonia también vasos de la Casa de Yahvé, que depositó en su templo en Babilonia. And he did evil in the sight of the Lord.10A la vuelta del año mandó el rey Nabucodonosor que le llevasen a Babilonia, juntamente con los objetos más preciosos de la Casa de Yahvé; y en su lugar puso a Sedecías, hermano de (Joaquín), por rey sobre Judá y Jerusalén. And when the course of a year had turned, king Nebuchadnezzar sent and brought him to Babylon, carrying away, at the same time, the most precious vessels of the house of the Lord. Truly, he appointed his uncle, Zedekiah, as king over Judah and Jerusalem.11Sedecías tenía veinte y un años cuando empezó a reinar, y reinó once años en Jerusalén. Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he had begun to reign. And he reigned for eleven years in Jerusalem.12Hizo lo que era malo a los ojos de Yahvé, su Dios, y no se humilló ante el profeta Jeremías que le hablaba de parte de Yahvé. And he did evil in the eyes of the Lord his God. And he did not show remorse before the face of the prophet Jeremiah, who was speaking to him from the mouth of the Lord.13También se rebeló contra el rey Nabucodonosor, el cual le había hecho jurar por Dios; y endureció su cerviz e hizo obstinado su corazón, en vez de convertirse a Yahvé, el Dios de Israel. Also, he withdrew from king Nebuchadnezzar, who had bound him by an oath to God, and he hardened his own neck and his own heart, so that he did not return to the Lord, the God of Israel.14También todos los príncipes de los sacerdotes y el pueblo se portaron muy impíamente, imitando todas las abominaciones de los gentiles y contaminando la Casa de Yahvé, que Él había santificado en Jerusalén. Then too, all the leaders of the priests, with the people, transgressed iniquitously, in accord with all the abominations of the Gentiles. And they polluted the house of the Lord, which he had sanctified to himself in Jerusalem.15Yahvé, el Dios de sus padres, les envió muy pronto reiteradas amonestaciones por medio de sus mensajeros, porque tenía compasión de su pueblo y de su morada. Then the Lord, the God of their fathers, sent to them, by the hand of his messengers, rising in the night and daily admonishing them. For he was lenient to his people and to his habitation.16Pero ellos burlándose de los mensajeros de Dios, despreciaron sus palabras y se mofaron de sus profetas, hasta que subió la ira de Yahvé contra su pueblo a tal punto que no hubo más remedio. But they ridiculed the messengers of God, and they gave little weight to his words, and they mocked the prophets, until the fury of the Lord ascended against his people, and there was no remedy.17Por lo cual trajo (Dios) contra ellos al rey de los caldeos, que mató a espada a sus jóvenes en la Casa de su Santuario, sin perdonar a mancebo ni a doncella, a viejo ni a cabeza cana; a todos los entregó (Dios) en su mano. For he led over them the king of the Chaldeans. And he put to death their young men by the sword, in the house of his sanctuary. There was no pity for adolescents, nor virgins, nor the elderly, nor even for the disabled. Instead, he delivered them all into his hands.18Nabucodonosor lo llevó todo a Babilonia: todos los utensilios de la Casa de Dios, grandes y pequeños, los tesoros de la Casa de Yahvé, y los tesoros del rey y de sus príncipes. And all the vessels of the house of Lord, as much the greater as the lesser, and the treasures of the temple, and of the king and the rulers, he carried away to Babylon.19Incendiaron la Casa de Dios y derribaron las murallas de Jerusalén; pegaron fuego a todos sus palacios y destruyeron todo cuanto en ellos había de precioso. The enemies set fire to the house of God, and they destroyed the wall of Jerusalem. They burned down all the towers. And whatever was precious, they demolished.20Y a los que escaparon de la espada, los llevaron cautivos a Babilonia, donde fueron esclavos de él y de sus hijos hasta la dominación del reino de los persas; If anyone had escaped from the sword, he was led into Babylon. And he served the king and his sons, until the king of Persia would command,21para que se cumpliese la palabra de Yahvé pronunciada por boca de Jeremías; hasta que el país hubo gozado de sus sábados; pues descansó todos los días de su desolación, hasta que se cumplieron los setenta años. and the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah would be fulfilled, and the land would celebrate her Sabbaths. For during all the days of the desolation, she kept a Sabbath, until the seventy years were completed.22El año primero de Ciro, rey de Persia, en cumplimiento de la palabra de Yahvé, pronunciada por boca de Jeremías, Yahvé movió el espíritu de Ciro, rey de Persia, el cual mandó publicar de viva voz, y también por escrito, en todo su reino, el siguiente edicto: Then, in the first year of Cyrus, the king of the Persians, in order to fulfill the word of the Lord, which he had spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah, the Lord stirred up the heart of Cyrus, the king of the Persians, who commanded this to be proclaimed throughout his entire kingdom, and also in writing, saying:23Así dice Ciro, rey de Persia: “Yahvé, el Dios del cielo, me ha dado todos los reinos de la tierra; y me ha encargado de edificarle una casa en Jerusalén, que está en Judá. Todos los de entre vosotros que formen parte de su pueblo, sea Yahvé, su Dios, con ellos y suban (a Jerusalén). “Thus says Cyrus, the king of the Persians: The Lord, the God of heaven, has given to me all the kingdoms of the earth. And he has instructed me that I should build for him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judea. Who among you is from his entire people? May the Lord his God be with him, and let him ascend.”
