1El Presbítero a la señora Electa y a sus hijos, a quienes amo yo en verdad, y no solo yo, sino también todos los que han conocido la verdad, The Elder to the Elect Lady, and those born of her, whom I love in the truth: and not I alone, but also all those who have known the truth,2por amor de la verdad que permanece en nosotros y que con nosotros estará para siempre: because the truth which dwells in us shall be with us for eternity.3gracia, misericordia y paz, de parte de Dios Padre y de Jesucristo, el Hijo del Padre, sea con vosotros en verdad y amor. May grace, mercy, and peace be with you from God the Father, and from Christ Jesus, the Son of the Father, in truth and in love.4Mucho me he gozado al encontrar a hijos tuyos que andan en la verdad, conforme al mandamiento que hemos recibido del Padre. I was very glad because I discovered some of your sons walking in the truth, just as we received the commandment from the Father.5Y ahora ruégote, señora, no como escribiéndote un mandamiento nuevo, sino aquel que hemos tenido desde el principio —que nos amemos unos a otros. And now I petition you, Lady, not as if writing a new commandment to you, but instead that commandment which we have had from the beginning: that we love one another.6El amor consiste en que caminemos según sus mandamientos. Y este es el mandamiento, como lo habéis oído desde el principio; que caminéis en el amor. And this is love: that we walk according to his commandments. For this is the commandment that you have heard in the same way from the beginning, and in which you should walk.7Porque han salido al mundo muchos impostores, que no confiesan que Jesucristo viene en carne. En esto se conoce al seductor y al Anticristo. For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not confess that Jesus Christ has arrived in the flesh. Such a one as this is a deceiver and an antichrist.8Mirad por vosotros mismos, a fin de que no perdáis el fruto de vuestro trabajo, sino que recibáis colmado galardón. Be cautious for yourselves, lest you lose what you have accomplished, and so that, instead, you may receive a full reward.9Todo el que va más adelante y no permanece en la enseñanza de Cristo, no tiene a Dios; el que permanece en la doctrina, ese tiene al Padre, y también al Hijo. Everyone who withdraws and does not remain in the doctrine of Christ, does not have God. Whoever remains in the doctrine, such a one as this has both the Father and the Son.10Si viene alguno a vosotros, y no trae esta doctrina, no le recibáis en casa, ni le saludéis. If anyone comes to you, and does not bring this doctrine, do not be willing to receive him into the house, and do not speak a greeting to him.11Porque quien le saluda participa en sus malas obras. For whoever speaks a greeting to him, is speaking with his evil works.12Muchas cosas tendría que escribiros, mas no quiero hacerlo por medio de papel y tinta, porque espero ir a vosotros, y hablar cara a cara, para que nuestro gozo sea cumplido. I have much more to write to you, but I am not willing to do so through paper and ink. For I hope that I may be with you in the future, and that I may speak face to face, so that your joy may be full.13Te saludan los hijos de tu hermana Electa. The sons of your Elect Sister greet you.
