1Atalía, madre de Ococías, viendo que había muerto su hijo, se levantó y exterminó a toda la estirpe real. Truly, Athaliah, the mother of Ahaziah, seeing that her son was dead, rose up and put to death all the royal offspring.2Mas Josaba, hija del rey Joram, hermana de Ococías, tomó a Joás, hijo de Ococías y lo sacó, con su nodriza de en medio de los hijos del rey, cuando estos estaban a punto de ser asesinados. Lo escondió de Atalía, en el aposento de dormir, y así no fue muerto. But Jehosheba, the daughter of king Joram, the sister of Ahaziah, taking Jehoash, the son of Ahaziah, stole him away from the midst of the sons of the king who were being killed, out of the bedroom, with his nurse. And she hid him from the face of Athaliah, so that he would not be killed.3Y estuvo escondido con ella en la Casa de Yahvé, por seis años; mientras tanto reinó Atalía sobre el país. And he was with her for six years, hidden in the house of the Lord. But Athaliah reigned over the land.4El año séptimo, Joiadá envió y convocó a los centuriones de los carios y de la guardia real, y los llevó consigo a la Casa de Yahvé. Concluyó con ellos un pacto y los juramentó en la Casa de Yahvé. Después les mostró al hijo del rey, Then, in the seventh year, Jehoiada sent for and took centurions and soldiers, and he brought them to himself in the temple of the Lord. And he formed a pact with them. And taking an oath with them in the house of the Lord, he revealed to them the son of the king.5y les dio orden, diciendo: “Esto es lo que habéis de hacer: La tercera parte de vosotros que entra el sábado, para montar guardia en la casa del rey, And he commanded them, saying: “This is the word that you must do.6y la otra tercera parte que guarda la puerta de Sur, y la tercera parte que guarda la puerta detrás de la guardia real, vosotros haréis la guardia de la Casa (de Yahvé) contra cualquier ataque. Let one third part of you enter on the Sabbath, and keep watch on the house of the king. And let one third part be at the gate of Sur. And let one third part be at the gate behind the dwelling place of the shield bearers. And you shall keep the watch on the house of Mesha.7Y los otros dos destacamentos de entre vosotros —es decir, todos lo que salen de servicio el sábado y guardan la Casa de Yahvé, junto al rey— Yet truly, let two parts of you, all who depart on the Sabbath, keep watch over the house of the Lord concerning the king.8vosotros rodearéis al rey por todas partes cada uno con sus armas en la mano, y cualquiera que pretenda penetrar en las filas, será muerto. Vosotros estaréis con el rey cuando salga y cuando entre.” And you shall surround him, having weapons in your hands. But if anyone will have entered the precinct of the temple, let him be killed. And you shall be with the king, entering and departing.”9Los centuriones ejecutaron puntualmente las instrucciones del sacerdote Joiadá. Tomaron cada uno sus hombres, tanto los que entraban el sábado, como los que salían el sábado, y vinieron al sacerdote Joiadá; And the centurions acted in accord with all the things that Jehoiada, the priest, had instructed them. And taking each one of their men who would enter on the Sabbath, with those who would depart on the Sabbath, they went to Jehoiada, the priest.10y el sacerdote dio a los centuriones las lanzas y los escudos del rey David, que se hallaban en la Casa de Yahvé. And he gave to them the spears and weapons of king David, which were in the house of the Lord.11Los de la guardia real, cada uno con sus armas en la mano, se apostaron desde el lado derecho de la Casa hasta el lado izquierdo entre el altar y la Casa, para rodear al rey. And they stood, each one having his weapons in his hand, before the right side of the temple, all the way to the left side of the altar and of the shrine, surrounding the king.12Entonces sacó (Joiadá) al hijo del rey, puso sobre él la diadema y el Testimonio, y lo proclamó rey, ungiéndole. Y batieron palmas, clamando: “¡Viva el rey!” And he led forth the son of the king. And he placed the diadem on him, and the testimony. And they made him king, and they anointed him. And clapping their hands, they said: “The king lives!”13Al oír Atalía las voces de la guardia real y del pueblo, se vino a la gente que estaba en la Casa de Yahvé. Then Athaliah heard the sound of the people running. And entering to the crowd at the temple of the Lord,14Miró, y he aquí al rey estando de pie sobre el estrado, según costumbre, y a los cantores y las trompetas junto al rey; y todo el pueblo del país se alegraba al son de las trompetas. Entonces Atalía rasgó sus vestidos y gritó: “¡Traición, traición!” she saw the king standing upon a tribunal, according to custom, and the singers and trumpets near him, and all the people of the land rejoicing and sounding the trumpets. And she tore her garments, and she cried out: “Conspiracy! Conspiracy!”15Mas el sacerdote Joiadá dio orden a los centuriones que tenían el mando de las tropas diciendo: “Sacadla por entre las filas y cualquiera que la siga, matadle a espada”; porque el sacerdote había dicho: “¡No sea muerta en la casa de Yahvé!” But Jehoiada gave orders to the centurions who were over the army, and he said to them: “Lead her away, beyond the precinct of the temple. And whoever will have followed her, let him be struck with the sword.” For the priest had said, “Do not allow her to be killed in the temple of the Lord.”16Echaron, pues, manos de ella, y ella salió hacia la casa del rey por la puerta de los caballos; y allí fue muerta. And they laid hands on her. And they pushed her through the way by which horses enter, beside the palace. And she was killed there.17Joiadá hizo entonces la alianza entre Yahvé y el rey y el pueblo, de que ellos serían el pueblo de Yahvé. Del mismo modo (hizo alianza) entre el rey y el pueblo. Then Jehoiada formed a covenant between the Lord, and the king and the people, so that they would be the people of the Lord; and between the king and the people.18Y entró todo el pueblo del país en el templo de Baal y lo destruyeron, demoliendo totalmente sus altares y sus imágenes. And the priest placed guards in the house of the Lord.19y tomando a los centuriones, a los carios, a la guardia real y a todo el pueblo del país, condujeron al rey desde la Casa de Yahvé, y entraron en la casa del rey por el camino de la puerta de la guardia real; y (Joás) se sentó sobre el trono de los reyes. And he took the centurions, and the legions of the Cherethites and Pelethites, and all the people of the land, and together they led the king from the house of the Lord. And they went by way of the gate of the shield bearers into the palace. And he sat upon the throne of the kings.20Todo el pueblo del país se regocijó, y la ciudad quedó tranquila, pues Atalía había sido muerta a filo de espada, en la casa del rey. And all the people of the land rejoiced. And the city was quieted. But Athaliah was slain with the sword at the house of the king.21Joás tenía siete años cuando empezó a reinar. Now Jehoash was seven years old when he had begun to reign.
