2 Pedro 1
1Simón Pedro, siervo y apóstol de Jesucristo, a los que han alcanzado fe, no menos preciosa que la nuestra, en la justicia de nuestro Dios y Salvador Jesucristo: Simon Peter, servant and Apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have been allotted an equal faith with us in the justice of our God and in our Savior Jesus Christ.2la gracia y la paz sean multiplicadas en vosotros por el conocimiento de Dios y de Jesús nuestro Señor. Grace to you. And may peace be fulfilled according to the plan of God and of Christ Jesus our Lord,3Pues, mediante ese conocimiento de Aquel que nos llamó para su gloria y virtud, su divino poder nos ha dado todas las cosas conducentes a la vida y a la piedad, in the same manner that all things which are for life and piety have been given to us by his Divine virtue, through the plan of him who has called us to our own glory and virtue.4por medio de las cuales nos han sido obsequiados los preciosos y grandísimos bienes prometidos, para que merced a ellos llegaseis a ser partícipes de la naturaleza divina, huyendo de la corrupción del mundo que vive en concupiscencias. Through Christ, he has given us the greatest and most precious promises, so that by these things you may become sharers in the Divine Nature, fleeing from the corruption of that desire which is in the world.5Por tanto, poned todo vuestro empeño en unir a vuestra fe la rectitud, a la rectitud el conocimiento, But as for you, taking up every concern, minister virtue in your faith; and in virtue, knowledge;6al conocimiento la templanza, a la templanza la paciencia, a la paciencia la piedad, and in knowledge, moderation; and in moderation, patience; and in patience, piety;7a la piedad el amor fraternal, y al amor fraternal la caridad. and in piety, love of brotherhood; and in love of brotherhood, charity.8Porque si estas cosas están en vosotros y crecen, os impiden estar ociosos y sin fruto en el conocimiento de nuestro Señor Jesucristo. For if these things are with you, and if they abound, they will cause you to be neither empty, nor without fruit, within the plan of our Lord Jesus Christ.9En cambio, quien no las posee está ciego y anda a tientas, olvidado de la purificación de sus antiguos pecados. For he who does not have these things at hand is blind and groping, being forgetful of his purification from his former offenses.10Por lo cual, hermanos, esforzaos más por hacer segura vuestra vocación y elección; porque haciendo esto no tropezaréis jamás. Because of this, brothers, be all the more diligent, so that by good works you may make certain your calling and election. For in doing these things, you do not sin at any time.11Y de este modo os estará ampliamente abierto el acceso al reino eterno de nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo. For in this way, you shall be provided abundantly with an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.12Por esto me empeñaré siempre en recordaros estas cosas, aunque las conozcáis y estéis firmes en la verdad actual. For this reason, I will always begin to admonish you about these things, even though, certainly, you know them and are confirmed in the present truth.13Porque creo de mi deber, mientras estoy en esta tienda de campaña, despertaros con amonestaciones, But I consider it just, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up with admonishments.14ya que sé que pronto vendrá el despojamiento de mi tienda, como me lo hizo saber el mismo Señor nuestro Jesucristo. For it is certain that the laying to rest of this, my tabernacle, is approaching swiftly, just as our Lord Jesus Christ has also indicated to me.15Procuraré, sin embargo, que, aun después de mi partida, tengáis siempre cómo traeros a la memoria estas cosas. Therefore, I will present a work for you to have, so that, frequently after my passing, you may call to mind these things.16Porque no os hemos dado a conocer el poder y la Parusía de nuestro Señor Jesucristo según fábulas inventadas, sino como testigos oculares que fuimos de su majestad. For it was not by following fanciful doctrines that we made known to you the power and presence of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were made eyewitnesses of his greatness.17Pues Él recibió de Dios Padre honor y gloria cuando de la Gloria majestuosísima le fue enviada aquella voz: “Este es mi Hijo amado en quien Yo me complazco”; For he received honor and glory from God the Father, whose voice descended to him from the magnificent glory: “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to him.”18Y esta voz enviada del cielo la oímos nosotros, estando con Él en el monte santo. We also heard this voice conveyed from heaven, when we were with him on the holy mountain.19Y tenemos también, más segura aún, la palabra profética, a la cual bien hacéis en ateneros —como a una lámpara que alumbra en un lugar oscuro hasta que amanezca el día y el astro de la mañana se levante en vuestros corazones— And so, we have an even firmer prophetic word, to which you would do well to listen, as to a light shining within a dark place, until the day dawns, and the daystar rises, in your hearts.20entendiendo esto ante todo: que ninguna profecía de la Escritura es obra de propia iniciativa; Understand this first: that every prophecy of Scripture does not result from one’s own interpretation.21porque jamás profecía alguna trajo su origen de voluntad de hombre, sino que impulsados por el Espíritu Santo hablaron hombres de parte de Dios. For prophecy was not conveyed by human will at any time. Instead, holy men were speaking about God while inspired by the Holy Spirit.
