1Pero hubo también falsos profetas en el pueblo, así como entre vosotros habrá falsos doctores, que introducirán furtivamente sectarismos perniciosos, y llegando a renegar del Señor que los rescató, atraerán sobre ellos una pronta ruina. But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be among you lying teachers, who will introduce divisions of perdition, and they will deny him who bought them, the Lord, bringing upon themselves swift destruction.2Muchos los seguirán en sus disoluciones, y por causa de ellos el camino de la verdad será calumniado. And many persons will follow their indulgences; through such persons, the way of truth will be blasphemed.3Y por avaricia harán tráfico de vosotros, valiéndose de razones inventadas: ellos, cuya condenación ya de antiguo no está ociosa y cuya ruina no se duerme. And in avarice, they will negotiate about you with false words. Their judgment, in the near future, is not delayed, and their perdition does not sleep.4Porque si a los ángeles que pecaron no los perdonó Dios, sino que los precipitó en el tártaro, entregándolos a prisiones de tinieblas, reservados para el juicio, For God did not spare those Angels who sinned, but instead delivered them, as if dragged down by infernal ropes, into the torments of the underworld, to be reserved unto judgment.5y si al viejo mundo tampoco perdonó, echando el diluvio sobre el mundo de los impíos y salvando con otros siete a Noé como predicador de la justicia; And he did not spare the original world, but he preserved the eighth one, Noah, the herald of justice, bringing the flood upon the world of the impious.6y si condenó a la destrucción las ciudades de Sodoma y Gomorra, tornándolas en cenizas y dejando para los impíos una figura de las cosas futuras, And he reduced the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes, condemning them to be overthrown, setting them as an example to anyone who might act impiously.7mientras que libraba al justo Lot, afligido a causa de la vida lasciva de aquellos malvados — And he rescued a just man, Lot, who was oppressed by the unjust and lewd behavior of the wicked.8pues este justo, que habitaba entre ellos, afligía día por día su alma justa al ver y oír las obras inicuas de ellos— For in seeing and in hearing, he was just, though he lived with those who, from day to day, crucified the just soul with works of iniquity.9bien sabe entonces el Señor librar de la tentación a los piadosos y reserva a los injustos para el día del juicio que los castigará, Thus, the Lord knows how to rescue the pious from trials, and how to reserve the iniquitous for torments on the day of judgment;10sobre todo a los que en deseos impuros andan en pos de la carne y desprecian el Señorío. Audaces y presuntuosos, no temen blasfemar de las Glorias (caídas), even more so, those who walk after the flesh in unclean desires, and who despise proper authority. Boldly pleasing themselves, they do not dread to introduce divisions by blaspheming;11en tanto que los ángeles, siendo mayores en fuerza y poder, no profieren contra ellas juicio injurioso delante del Señor. whereas the Angels, who are greater in strength and virtue, did not bring against themselves such a deplorable judgment.12Pero ellos, como las bestias irracionales —naturalmente nacidas para ser capturadas y destruidas— blasfemando de lo que no entienden, perecerán también como aquellas, Yet truly, these others, like irrational beasts, naturally fall into traps and into ruin by blaspheming whatever they do not understand, and so they shall perish in their corruption,13recibiendo su paga en el salario de la iniquidad. Buscan la felicidad en la voluptuosidad del momento; sucios e inmundos, se deleitan en sus engaños, mientras banquetean con vosotros. receiving the reward of injustice, the fruition of valuing the delights of the day: defilements and stains, overflowing with self-indulgences, taking pleasure in their feasts with you,14Tienen los ojos llenos de la mujer adúltera y no cesan de pecar; con halagos atraen las almas superficiales; y su corazón está versado en la codicia; son hijos de maldición having eyes full of adultery and of incessant offenses, luring unstable souls, having a heart well-trained in avarice, sons of curses!15que, dejando el camino derecho, se han extraviado para seguir el camino de Balaam, hijo de Beor, que amó el salario de la iniquidad, Abandoning the straight path, they wandered astray, having followed the way of Balaam, the son of Beor, who loved the wages of iniquity.16mas fue reprendido por su transgresión: un mudo jumento, hablando con palabras humanas, reprimió el extravío del profeta. Yet truly, he had a correction of his madness: the mute animal under the yoke, which, by speaking with a human voice, forbid the folly of the prophet.17Estos tales son fuentes sin agua, nubes impelidas por un huracán. A ellos está reservada la lobreguez de las tinieblas. These ones are like fountains without water, and like clouds stirred up by whirlwinds. For them, the mist of darkness is reserved.18Pues profiriendo palabras hinchadas de vanidad, atraen con concupiscencias, explotando los apetitos de la carne a los que apenas se han desligado de los que viven en el error. For, speaking with the arrogance of vanity, they lure, by the desires of fleshly pleasures, those who are fleeing to some extent, who are being turned from error,19Les prometen libertad cuando ellos mismos son esclavos de la corrupción, pues cada cual es esclavo del que lo ha dominado. promising them freedoms, while they themselves are the servants of corruption. For by whatever a man is overcome, of this also is he the servant.20porque si los que se desligaron de las contaminaciones del mundo desde que conocieron al Señor y Salvador Jesucristo se dejan de nuevo enredar en ellas y son vencidos, su postrer estado ha venido a ser peor que el primero. For if, after taking refuge from the defilements of the world in the understanding of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they again become entangled and overcome by these things, then the latter state becomes worse than the former.21Mejor les fuera no haber conocido el camino de la justicia que renegar, después de conocerlo, el santo mandato que les fue transmitido. For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of justice than, after acknowledging it, to turn away from that holy commandment which was handed on to them.22En ellos se ha cumplido lo que expresa con verdad el dicho: “Un perro que vuelve a lo que vomitó” y “una puerca lavada que va a revolcarse en el fango”. For the truth of the proverb has happened to them: The dog has returned to his own vomit, and the washed sow has returned to her wallowing in the mud.
