3 Juan 1
1El Presbítero al amado Gayo, a quien amo yo en verdad. The Elder, to Gaius, most beloved, whom I love in the truth.2Carísimo, ruego que en todo prosperes y tengas, salud, así como prospera tu alma. Most beloved, concerning everything, I make it my prayer that you may benefit by advancing and succeeding in whatever may be to the benefit of your soul.3Me alegré grandemente cuando vinieron los hermanos y testimoniaron de ti la verdad, según andas en la verdad. I was very glad when the brothers arrived, and when they offered testimony to the truth in you, that you are walking in the truth.4No hay para mí gozo mayor que el oír que mis hijos andan en la verdad. I have no greater grace than this, when I hear that my sons are walking in the truth.5Haces obra de fe en todo cuanto trabajas a favor de los hermanos y los forasteros, Most beloved, you should act faithfully in whatever you do for the brothers, and those who are sojourners;6los cuales en presencia de la Iglesia dieron testimonio de tu caridad. Bien harás en proveerlos para el viaje como conviene según Dios. they have given testimony to your charity in the sight of the Church. You would do well to lead these ones worthily to God.7Pues por amor de su Nombre emprendieron el viaje, sin tomar nada de los gentiles. For they set out, on behalf of his name, accepting nothing from the unbelievers.8Por tanto, debemos nosotros acoger a los tales para cooperar a la verdad. Therefore, we must accept such as these, in order that we may cooperate with the truth.9Escribí algo a la Iglesia; pero el que gusta primar entre ellos, Diótrefes, no nos admite a nosotros. As it happens, I had written to the church. But Diotrephes, who loves to bear the highest rank among them, would not accept us.10Por lo cual, si voy allá le traeré a memoria las obras que hace difundiendo palabras maliciosas contra nosotros; y no contento con esto, ni él recibe a los hermanos ni se lo permite a los que quieren hacerlo y los expulsa de la Iglesia. Because of this, when I come, I will admonish his works which he does, babbling against us with malicious words. And as if this were not sufficient for him, he himself does not receive the brothers. And those who do receive them, he hinders, and he ejects them from the church.11No imites, carísimo, lo malo, sino lo bueno. El que obra el bien es de Dios; el que obra el mal no ha visto a Dios. Most beloved, do not be willing to imitate what is evil; instead imitate what is good. Whoever does good is of God. Whoever does evil has not seen God.12Todos, y aun la misma verdad, dan testimonio en favor de Demetrio; nosotros también le damos testimonio; y tú sabes que nuestro testimonio es verídico. Testimony is being given for Demetrius by everyone, and by the truth itself. And we also offer testimony. And you know that our testimony is true.13Muchas cosas tendría que escribirte, mas no quiero escribírtelas con tinta y pluma; I had many things to write to you, but I am not willing, through ink and pen, to write to you.14pues espero verte en breve y entonces hablaremos cara a cara. La paz sea contigo. Los amigos te saludan. Saluda tú a los amigos uno a uno. Yet I hope to see you soon, and then we will speak face to face. Peace to you. The friends greet you. Greet the friends by name.
