1Un hombre llamado Ananías, con Safira, su mujer, vendió una posesión, But a certain man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a field,2pero retuvo parte del precio, con acuerdo de su mujer, y trayendo una parte la puso a los pies de los apóstoles. and he was deceitful about the price of the field, with his wife’s consent. And bringing only part of it, he placed it at the feet of the Apostles.3Mas Pedro dijo: “Ananías, ¿cómo es que Satanás ha llenado tu corazón para que mintieses al Espíritu Santo, reteniendo parte del valor del campo? But Peter said: “Ananias, why has Satan tempted your heart, so that you would lie to the Holy Spirit and be deceitful about the price of the land?4Quedándote con él ¿no era tuyo? Y aun vendido ¿no quedaba (el precio) a tu disposición? ¿Por qué urdiste tal cosa en tu corazón? No has mentido a hombres sino a Dios”. Did it not belong to you while you retained it? And having sold it, was it not in your power? Why have you set this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men, but to God!”5Al oír Ananías estas palabras, cayó en tierra y expiró. Immediately, she fell down before his feet and expired. Then the young men entered and found her dead. Then the magistrate, with the attendants, went and brought them without force. For they were afraid of the people, lest they be stoned.27Después de haberlos traído, los presentaron ante el sinedrio y los interrogó el Sumo Sacerdote, And when they had brought them, they stood them before the council. And the high priest questioned them,28diciendo: “Os hemos prohibido terminantemente enseñar en este nombre, y he aquí que habéis llenado a Jerusalén de vuestra doctrina y queréis traer la sangre de este hombre sobre nosotros”. and said: “We strongly order you not to teach in this name.
