Now in those days, there occurred a great persecution against the Church at Jerusalem. And they were all dispersed throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the Apostles.2A Esteban le dieron sepultura algunos hombres piadosos e hicieron sobre él gran duelo. But God-fearing men arranged for Stephen’s funeral, and they made a great mourning over him.3Entretanto, Saulo devastaba la Iglesia, y penetrando en las casas arrastraba a hombres y mujeres y los metía en la cárcel. Then Saul was laying waste to the Church by entering throughout the houses, and dragging away men and women, and committing them to prison.4Los dispersos andaban de un lugar a otro predicando la palabra. Therefore, those who had been dispersed were traveling around, evangelizing the Word of God.5Felipe bajó a la ciudad de Samaria y predicoles a Cristo. Now Philip, descending to a city of Samaria, was preaching Christ to them.6Mucha gente atendía a una a las palabras de Felipe, oyendo y viendo los milagros que obraba. And the crowd was listening intently and with one accord to those things which were being said by Philip, and they were watching the signs which he was accomplishing.7De muchos que tenían espíritus inmundos, estos salían, dando grandes gritos, y muchos paralíticos y cojos fueron sanados; For many of them had unclean spirits, and, crying out with a loud voice, these departed from them.8por lo cual se llenó de gozo aquella ciudad. And many of the paralytics and the lame were cured.9Había en la ciudad, desde tiempo atrás, un hombre llamado Simón, el cual ejercitaba la magia y asombraba al pueblo de Samaria diciendo ser él un gran personaje. Therefore, there was great gladness in that city. Now there was a certain man named Simon, who formerly had been a magician in that city, seducing the people of Samaria, claiming himself to be someone great.10A él escuchaban todos, atentos desde el menor hasta el mayor, diciendo: Este es la virtud de Dios, la que se llama grande. And to all those who would listen, from the least even to the greatest, he was saying: “Here is the power of God, which is called great.”11Le prestaban atención porque por mucho tiempo los tenía asombrados con sus artes mágicas. And they were attentive to him because, for a long time, he had deluded them with his magic.12Mas, cuando creyeron a Felipe, que predicaba el reino de Dios y el nombre de Jesucristo, hombres y mujeres se bautizaron. Yet truly, once they had believed Philip, who was evangelizing the kingdom of God, both men and women were baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.13Creyó también el mismo Simón, y después de bautizado se allegó a Felipe y quedó atónito al ver los milagros y portentos grandes que se hacían. Then Simon himself also believed and, when he had been baptized, he adhered to Philip. And now, seeing also the greatest signs and miracles being wrought, he was amazed and stupefied.14Cuando los apóstoles que estaban en Jerusalén oyeron que Samaria había recibido la palabra de Dios les enviaron a Pedro y a Juan, Now when the Apostles who were in Jerusalem had heard that Samaria had received the Word of God, they sent Peter and John to them.15los cuales habiendo bajado, hicieron oración por ellos para que recibiesen al Espíritu Santo; And when they had arrived, they prayed for them, so that they might receive the Holy Spirit.16porque no había aún descendido sobre ninguno de ellos, sino que tan solo habían sido bautizados en el nombre del Señor Jesús. For he had not yet come to any among them, since they were only baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.17Entonces les impusieron las manos y ellos recibieron al Espíritu Santo. Then they laid their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.18Viendo Simón que por la imposición de las manos de los apóstoles se daba el Espíritu Santo, les ofreció bienes, But when Simon had seen that, by the imposition of the hands of the Apostles, the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money,19diciendo: “Dadme a mí también esta potestad, para que todo aquel a quien imponga yo las manos reciba al Espíritu Santo”. saying, “Give this power to me also, so that on whomever I will lay my hands, he may receive the Holy Spirit.” But Peter said to him:20Mas Pedro le respondió: “Tu dinero sea contigo para perdición tuya, por cuanto has creído poder adquirir el don de Dios por dinero. “Let your money be with you in perdition, for you have supposed that a gift of God might be possessed by money.21Tú no tienes parte ni suerte en esta palabra, pues tu corazón no es recto delante de Dios. There is no part or place for you in this matter. For your heart is not upright in the sight of God.22Por tanto haz arrepentimiento de esta maldad tuya y ruega a Dios, tal vez te sea perdonado lo que piensas en tu corazón. And so, repent from this, your wickedness, and beg God, so that perhaps this plan of your heart might be forgiven you.23Porque te veo lleno de amarga hiel y en lazo de iniquidad”. For I perceive you to be in the gall of bitterness and in the bond of iniquity.”24Respondió Simón y dijo: “Rogad vosotros por mí al Señor, para que no venga sobre mí ninguna de las cosas que habéis dicho”. Then Simon responded by saying, “Pray for me to the Lord, so that nothing of what you have said may happen to me.”25Ellos, pues, habiendo dado testimonio y predicado la palabra de Dios, regresaron a Jerusalén y evangelizaron muchas aldeas de los samaritanos. And indeed, after testifying and speaking the Word of the Lord, they returned to Jerusalem, and they evangelized the many regions of the Samaritans.26Un ángel del Señor habló a Felipe, diciendo: Levántate y ve hacia el mediodía, al camino que baja de Jerusalén a Gaza, el cual es el desierto. Now an Angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, “Rise up and go toward the south, to the way which descends from Jerusalem into Gaza, where there is a desert.”27Levantose y se fue, y he aquí que un hombre etíope, eunuco, valido de Candace, reina de los etíopes, y superintendente de todos los tesoros de ella, había venido a Jerusalén a hacer adoración. And rising up, he went. And behold, an Ethiopian man, a eunuch, powerful under Candace, the queen of the Ethiopians, who was over all her treasures, had arrived in Jerusalem to worship.28Iba de regreso y, sentado en el carruaje, leía al profeta Isaías. And while returning, he was sitting upon his chariot and reading from the prophet Isaiah.29Dijo entonces el Espíritu a Felipe: “Acércate y allégate a ese carruaje”. Then the Spirit said to Philip, “Draw near and join yourself to this chariot.”30Corrió, pues, Felipe hacia allá y oyendo su lectura del profeta Isaías, le preguntó: “¿Entiendes lo que estás leyendo?” And Philip, hurrying, heard him reading from the prophet Isaiah, and he said, “Do you think that you understand what you are reading?”31Respondió él: “¿Cómo podría si no hay quien me sirva de guía?” Invitó, pues, a Felipe, a que subiese y se sentase a su lado. And he said, “But how can I, unless someone will have revealed it to me?” And he asked Philip to climb up and sit with him.32El pasaje de la Escritura que estaba leyendo era este “Como una oveja fue conducido al matadero, y como un cordero enmudece delante del que lo trasquila, así él no abre su boca. Now the place in Scripture that he was reading was this: “Like a sheep he was led to the slaughter. And like a lamb silent before his shearer, so he opened not his mouth.33En la humillación suya ha sido terminado su juicio. ¿Quién explicará su generación, puesto que su vida es arrancada de la tierra?” He endured his judgment with humility. Who of his generation shall describe how his life was taken away from the earth?”34Respondiendo el eunuco preguntó a Felipe: “Ruégote ¿de quién dice esto el profeta? ¿De sí mismo o de algún otro?” Then the eunuch responded to Philip, saying: “I beg you, about whom is the prophet saying this? About himself, or about someone else?”35Entonces Felipe, abriendo su boca, y comenzando por esta Escritura, le anunció la Buena Nueva de Jesús. Then Philip, opening his mouth and beginning from this Scripture, evangelized Jesus to him.36Prosiguiendo el camino, llegaron a un lugar donde había agua, y dijo el eunuco: “Ve ahí agua. ¿Qué me impide ser bautizado?” And while they were going along the way, they arrived at a certain water source. And the eunuch said: “There is water. What would prevent me from being baptized?”38Y mandó parar el carruaje, y ambos bajaron al agua, Felipe y el eunuco, y (Felipe) le bautizó. And he ordered the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch descended into the water. And he baptized him.39Cuando subieron del agua, el Espíritu del Señor arrebató a Felipe, de manera que el eunuco no le vio más; el cual prosiguió su viaje lleno de gozo. And when they had ascended from the water, the Spirit of the Lord took Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him anymore. Then he went on his way, rejoicing.40Mas Felipe se encontró en Azoto, y pasando por todas las ciudades anunció el Evangelio hasta llegar a Cesarea. Now Philip was found in Azotus. And continuing on, he evangelized all the cities, until he arrived in Caesarea.
