1Por eso el Señor, Dios nuestro, cumplió su palabra, que había pronunciado contra nosotros, y contra nuestros jueces, gobernadores de Israel, y contra nuestros reyes y nuestros príncipes, contra todo Israel y Judá, “ ‘For this reason, the Lord our God has fulfilled his word, which he has spoken to us, and to our judges, who have judged Israel, and to our kings, and to our leaders, and to all Israel and Judah.2de que el Señor traería sobre nosotros grandes males, cuales jamás se han visto debajo del cielo, como los que han sucedido en Jerusalén, conforme a lo que se halla escrito en la Ley de Moisés: And so the Lord has brought upon us great evils, such as never before happened under heaven, (but which have come to pass in Jerusalem according to what was written in the law of Moses)3que comería un hombre la carne de su propio hijo y la carne de su hija. even that a man would eat the flesh of his son and the flesh of his daughter.4Y los entregó al poder de todos los reyes comarcanos nuestros, como escarnio y objeto de horror entre todas las naciones, entre las que el Señor nos ha dispersado. And so he placed them under the hand of all the kings who surround us, in disgrace and desolation among all the people where the Lord has scattered us.5Esclavos hemos venido a ser, en vez de amos, por haber pecado contra el Señor, nuestro Dios, no obedeciendo a su voz. And we were brought down low and were not raised up, because we sinned against the Lord our God, by not obeying his voice.6Del Señor, Dios nuestro, es la justicia; de nosotros, empero, y de nuestros padres, la confusión del rostro, como se ve en este día. To the Lord our God is justice, but to us and to our fathers is confusion of face, just as on this day.7Todos estos males que el Señor nos había amenazado, han venido sobre nosotros; For the Lord has pronounced against us all these evils, which have overcome us.8pero nosotros no acudimos al Señor, Dios nuestro, para rogarle y para convertirnos, cada uno, de los designios de nuestro perverso corazón. And we have not beseeched the face of the Lord our God, so that we might return, each one of us from our most sinful ways.9Por esto echó el Señor mano del castigo y lo descargó sobre nosotros; pues justo es el Señor en todas sus obras que nos ha mandado. And the Lord has watched over us for evil and has brought it upon us, because the Lord is just in all his works that he has commanded us,10No quisimos escuchar su voz para caminar según sus mandamientos que había puesto delante de nuestros ojos. and we have not listened to his own voice, so as to walk according to the teachings of the Lord, which he has set before our face.11Ahora oh Señor, Dios de Israel, que sacaste a tu pueblo del país de Egipto con mano fuerte y por medio de portentos y prodigios, con tu gran poder y con brazo extendido, y te adquiriste el nombre que hoy tienes; And now, O Lord God of Israel, who has led your people out of the land of Egypt with a strong hand, and with signs, and with wonders, and with your great power, and with an exalted arm, and has made a name for yourself, just as on this day,12hemos pecado, hemos obrado impíamente; nos hemos portado inicuamente, oh Señor, Dios nuestro, contra todos tus mandamientos. we have sinned, we have become impious, we have acted unjustly, O Lord our God, against all your principles.13Aléjese de nosotros tu indignación, porque somos pocos los que hemos quedado entre las naciones donde nos dispersaste. May your wrath be turned away from us because, having been forsaken, we are few among the irreligious where you have scattered us.14Escucha, Señor, nuestros ruegos, y nuestras súplicas, y líbranos por amor de Ti mismo, y haz que hallemos gracia a los ojos de aquellos que nos han deportado; Heed, O Lord, our petitions and our prayers, and deliver us for your own sake, and grant that we may find favor before the face of those who have led us away,15a fin de que conozca todo el mundo que Tú eres el Señor, Dios nuestro, y que tu nombre ha sido invocado sobre Israel y sobre su linaje. so that all the earth may know that you are the Lord our God, and because your name has been invoked over Israel and over his posterity.16Vuelve, oh Señor, tus ojos hacia nosotros desde tu santa Casa, inclina tus oídos y escúchanos. Gaze upon us, O Lord, from your holy home, and incline your ear, and heed us.17Abre tus ojos y mira, porque no son los muertos, que están en el sepulcro y cuyo espíritu ha sido separado de sus entrañas, los que tributan honra al Señor y reconocen su justicia, Open your eyes and see, because the dead, who are in the underworld, whose spirit has been taken away from their vital organs, will not give honor and justification to the Lord.18sino el alma que está afligida por causa de la grandeza del mal que ha cometido, y que anda encorvada y macilenta y con los ojos caídos. El alma hambrienta, esa es la que te tributa gloria, oh Señor, y (reconoce) tu justicia. But the soul that is sorrowful for the greatness of evil, approaches bowed down and weak, and the failing eyes and the hungering soul give glory and justice to you, the Lord.19Pues no apoyados en la justicia de nuestros padres y de nuestros reyes, derramamos nuestras plegarias y pedimos misericordia ante tu acatamiento, oh Señor, Dios nuestro, For it is not according to the righteousness of our fathers that we pour out our petitions and beg mercy in your sight, O Lord our God,20sino porque has descargado sobre nosotros tu indignación y furor, según habías anunciado por medio de tus siervos los profetas, diciendo: but because you have sent your wrath and your fury upon us, just as you have spoken by the hand of your children the prophets, saying:21«Esto dice el Señor: Inclinad vuestro hombro y vuestra cerviz, y servid al rey de Babilonia, y así viviréis tranquilos en la tierra que Yo di a vuestros padres. “Thus says the Lord, ‘Bow down your shoulder and your neck, and do work for the king of Babylon, and settle in the land which I gave to your fathers,22Pero si no obedeciereis la orden del Señor, Dios nuestro, de servir al rey de Babilonia, because, if you will not listen to the voice of the Lord your God, to serve the king of Babylon, I will cause you to depart from the cities of Judah and from the gates of Jerusalem.23haré cesar en las ciudades de Judá y en las calles de Jerusalén las voces de alegría y de gozo, y los cantares del esposo y de la esposa, y quedará todo el país un desierto sin habitantes». And I will take away from you the voice of cheerfulness and the voice of joy, and the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, and all the land will be without any trace of its inhabitants.’ ”24Pero no obedecieron la orden tuya de servir al rey de Babilonia; y por eso cumpliste tus palabras que anunciaste por tus siervos los profetas: que serían sacados de su lugar los huesos de nuestros reyes y los huesos de nuestros padres. And they did not listen to your voice, that they should serve the king of Babylon, and so you have fulfilled your words, which you spoke by the hands of your children the prophets, so that the bones of our kings and the bones of our fathers would be carried away from their place.25Y he aquí que han sido arrojados al ardor del sol, y a la escarcha de la noche; y murieron entre crueles dolores, causados por el hambre, por la espada y la peste. And, behold, they have been cast out into the heat of the sun and the frost of the night, and they have died by means of grievous evils, by famine, and by the sword, and by banishment.26Y el Templo sobre el cual había sido invocado tu nombre, lo redujiste al estado en que se halla hoy día, a causa de las maldades de la casa de Israel y de la casa de Judá. And you have set up the temple, in which your name itself was called upon, just as it is on this day, because of the iniquity of the house of Israel and the house of Judah.27Sin embargo, has obrado con nosotros, oh Señor, Dios nuestro, con toda tu bondad, y con toda aquella tu gran misericordia; And you have accomplished in us, O Lord our God, according to all your goodness and according to all your great mercy,28como lo habías declarado por boca de Moisés, siervo tuyo, el día en que le mandaste escribir tu Ley a la vista de los hijos de Israel, just as you spoke by the hand of your child Moses, in the day when you commanded him to write your law before the sons of Israel,29diciendo: «Si no obedeciereis a mi voz, esta grande muchedumbre de gente será reducida a un muy pequeño número en las naciones, entre las cuales la dispersaré; saying: “If you will not listen to my voice, this great multitude will be changed into the least among the peoples, where I will scatter them.30porque Yo sé que no me escucharán, pues es un pueblo de dura cerviz; pero volverá en sí, cuando esté en la tierra de su cautiverio; For I know that the people will not listen to me, for the people are stiff necked. But they will have a change of their heart in the land of their captivity,31y conocerán que Yo soy el Dios suyo. Y les daré un corazón, y entenderán; oídos, y oirán. and they will know that I am the Lord their God. And I will give them a heart, and they will understand, ears, and they will hear.32Me tributarán alabanza en la tierra de su cautiverio, y se acordarán de mi nombre. And they will praise me in the land of their captivity, and will remember my name.33Ablandarán su dura cerviz y su malignidad; pues se acordarán de lo que sucedió a sus padres por haber pecado contra Mí. And they will turn themselves away from their stiff back, and from their wicked deeds, for they will call to mind the way of their fathers, who sinned against me.34Entonces los conduciré otra vez a la tierra que prometí con juramento a sus padres, a Abrahán, a Isaac y a Jacob; y serán señores de ella; y los multiplicaré, y no disminuirán. And I will restore them to the land which I pledged to their fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and they will rule over it, and I will multiply them, and they will not be diminished.35Y estableceré con ellos otra alianza eterna para que Yo sea, su Dios, así como ellos serán el pueblo mío; y no removeré jamás a mi pueblo, los hijos de Israel, de la tierra que les he dado». And I will establish for them a new and everlasting covenant, so that I will be their God and they will be my people. And I will no longer move my people, the sons of Israel, out of the land which I have given them.”
