1Y ahora, Señor todopoderoso, Dios de Israel, un alma angustiada y un espíritu acongojado dirige a Ti sus clamores. “ ‘And now, O Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, the soul in anguish and the troubled spirit cry out to you.2Atiende, Señor, y ten piedad de nosotros, porque eres un Dios misericordioso; y apiádate de nosotros, porque hemos pecado en tu presencia. Listen, O Lord, and be merciful, for you are a merciful God, and so be merciful to us, for we have sinned before you.3Tú permaneces eternamente; pero nosotros ¿habremos de perecer para siempre? For you are enthroned in eternity, but we will pass away in time.4Oh Señor todopoderoso, Dios de Israel, escucha ahora la oración de los muertos de Israel, y de los hijos de aquellos que pecaron ante Ti, y no quisieron escuchar la voz del Señor, su Dios, por lo cual se ha pegado a nosotros el mal. O Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, listen now to the prayer of the dead of Israel and of their sons, who have sinned before you and have not listened to the voice of the Lord their God, and have joined themselves to evil.5No te acuerdes de las iniquidades de nuestros padres; acuérdate, sí, en este tiempo, de tu poder y de tu nombre. Remember not the iniquities of our fathers, but remember your hand and your name at this time.6Porque Tú eres el Señor, Dios nuestro; y nosotros, oh Señor, te tributaremos alabanza. For you are the Lord our God, and we will praise you, O Lord.7Pues por eso has llenado de temor nuestros corazones, a fin de que invoquemos tu nombre y te alabemos en nuestra cautividad, ya que nos hemos alejado de la iniquidad de nuestros padres que pecaron delante de Ti. And for this reason, you have imparted your fear into our hearts, and also, so that we may call upon your name and may praise you in our captivity, for we are converted from the iniquity of our fathers, who sinned before you.8Henos aquí hoy en nuestro cautiverio, en donde nos tienes dispersos para que seamos objeto de escarnio y maldición, y para expiación de todas las maldades de nuestros padres, que se apartaron del Señor, Dios nuestro.” And, behold, we are still in our captivity on this day, where you have scattered us into disgrace, and into slander, and into sin, according to all the iniquities of our fathers, who withdrew from you, O Lord our God.9Escucha, Israel, los mandamientos de vida; aplica tus oídos para aprender la sabiduría. Listen, O Israel, to the commandments of life! Pay attention, so that you may learn prudence!10¿Cuál es el motivo, oh Israel, de que estés en tierra de enemigos? How is it, O Israel, that you are in the land of your enemies,11¿Y de que hayas envejecido en país extranjero, contaminándote con los muertos, y de que ya se te cuente en el número de los que descienden al sepulcro? that you have grown old in a foreign land, that you are defiled with the dead, that you are regarded as among those who are descending into hell?12Porque has abandonado la fuente de la sabiduría. You have forsaken the fountain of wisdom.13Si hubieses andado por la senda de Dios, vivirías en perpetua paz. For if you had walked in the way of God, you would certainly have lived in everlasting peace.14Aprende dónde está la sabiduría, dónde la fortaleza, dónde la inteligencia, para que sepas también dónde hay longevidad y vida, y dónde está la luz de los ojos y la paz. Learn where prudence is, where virtue is, where understanding is, so that you may know at the same time where long life and prosperity are, where the light of the eyes and peace are.15¿Quién halló la morada de la (sabiduría)? ¿Quién penetró en sus tesoros? Who has discovered its place? And who has entered its treasure chamber?16¿Dónde están los príncipes de las naciones y los dominadores de las bestias de la tierra? Where are the leaders of the peoples, and those who rule over the beasts that are upon the earth,17¿Aquellos que jugaban con las aves del cielo, who play among the birds of the air,18y atesoraban la plata y el oro en que los hombres ponen su confianza, y en cuya adquisición jamás acaban de saciarse; aquellos que labraban con tanto afán la plata, de modo que sus obras eran sin igual? who store up treasures of silver and gold, in which men trust, and with whom there is no end to their acquiring, who work with silver and are anxious about it, and whose works are inexplicable?19Exterminados fueron y descendieron a los infiernos, y en su lugar se levantaron otros. They have been banished and have descended to hell, and others are risen up in their place.20Generaciones jóvenes vieron la luz, y habitaron sobre la tierra, pero desconocieron el camino de la sabiduría; The youth have seen the light and have dwelt upon the earth, yet they are ignorant of the way of instruction.21no comprendieron sus sendas, ni la abrazaron sus hijos; por eso ella se alejó de su rostro. They have neither understood the paths of it, nor have their sons accepted it. It is far from their face.22No se oyó palabra de ella en el país de Canaán, ni fue vista en Temán. It has not been heard of in the land of Canaan, nor has it been seen in Teman.23Asimismo los hijos de Agar, que van en busca de la prudencia que procede de la tierra, los negociantes de Merra y de Temán, los autores de parábolas y los investigadores de la inteligencia, ignoraron igualmente el camino de la sabiduría y olvidaron sus sendas. It is likewise with the sons of Hagar, who search for the practicality that is of the earth, the negotiators of Merran and Teman, and the storytellers, and the searchers of discretion and intelligence. Yet the way of wisdom they have not known, nor have they called to mind its paths.24¡Oh Israel, cuán grande es la casa de Dios, y cuan espacioso el lugar de su posesión! O Israel, how great is the house of God, and how vast is the place of his possession!25Grande es y no tiene término; excelso es e inmenso. It is great and has no end! It is exalted and immense!26Allí vivieron los famosos gigantes, que hubo al principio, de elevada estatura, diestros en la guerra. There were those who were called giants, who existed from the beginning, of great stature, expert in war.27No a estos eligió el Señor, ni encontraron la senda de la doctrina; por esto perecieron. The Lord did not choose them, nor did they discover the way of instruction; for this reason they perished,28Y por cuanto no tuvieron sabiduría perecieron por su necedad. and, because they did not have wisdom, they passed away as a result of their foolishness.29¿Quién subió al cielo y se apoderó de ella, y la hizo descender de las nubes? Who has gone up into heaven, and taken her, and brought her down from the clouds?30¿Quién atravesó los mares y la halló, y la trajo por oro purísimo? Who has crossed the sea, and found her, and brought her, chosen instead of gold?31No hay quien pueda conocer los caminos de ella, ni investigar sus sendas. There is no one who is able to know her ways, nor any who can search out her paths.32Solamente Aquel que sabe todas las cosas, la conoce y la descubrió con su inteligencia; Aquel que fundó la tierra para siempre y la pobló de animales y cuadrúpedos; Yet he who knows the universe is familiar with her, and in his foresight he invented her, he who prepared the earth for time without end, and filled it with cattle and four-footed beasts,33Aquel que envía la luz y ella marcha; la llama y ella obedece temblando. who sends out the light, and it goes, and who summoned it, and it obeyed him in fear.34Las estrellas difunden su luz en sus atalayas, y lo hacen con alegría. Yet the stars have given light from their posts, and they rejoiced.35Fueron llamadas, y dijeron: “Aquí estamos”; y gozosas dieron luz al que las creó. They were called, and so they said, “Here we are,” and they shined with cheerfulness to him who made them.36Este es nuestro Dios, ningún otro será reputado por tal a su lado. This is our God, and no other can compare to him.37Él halló todos los caminos de la sabiduría, y la dio a su siervo Jacob, y a Israel, su amado. He invented the way of all instruction, and delivered it to Jacob his child, and to Israel his beloved.38Después de esto, se ha dejado ver sobre la tierra, y conversó con los hombres. After this, he was seen on earth, and he conversed with men.
