1Porque quiero que sepáis cuán fuertemente tengo que luchar por vosotros y por los de Laodicea, y por cuantos nunca han visto mi rostro en la carne, For I want you to know the kind of solicitude that I have for you, and for those who are at Laodicea, as well as for those who have not seen my face in the flesh.2a fin de que sean consolados sus corazones, confirmados en el amor y en toda la riqueza de la plenitud de la inteligencia, de modo de llegar al conocimiento del misterio de Dios, que es Cristo, May their hearts be consoled and instructed in charity, with all the riches of a plenitude of understanding, with knowledge of the mystery of God the Father and of Christ Jesus.3en quien los tesoros de la sabiduría y del conocimiento están todos escondidos. For in him are hidden all treasures of wisdom and knowledge.4Esto lo digo, para que nadie os seduzca con argumentos de apariencia lógica. Now I say this, so that no one may deceive you with grandiose words.5Pues si bien estoy ausente con el cuerpo, sin embargo en espíritu estoy entre vosotros, gozándome al mirar vuestra armonía y la firmeza de vuestra fe en Cristo. For though I may be absent in body, yet I am with you in spirit. And I rejoice as I gaze upon your order and its foundation, which is in Christ, your faith.6Por tanto, tal cual aprendisteis a Cristo Jesús el Señor, así andad en Él, Therefore, just as you have received the Lord Jesus Christ, walk in him.7arraigados en Él y edificados sobre Él, y confirmados en la fe según fuisteis enseñados, y rebosando de agradecimiento. Be rooted and continually built up in Christ. And be confirmed in the faith, just as you have also learned it, increasing in him with acts of thanksgiving.8Mirad, pues, no haya alguno que os cautive por medio de la filosofía y de vana falacia, fundadas en la tradición de los hombres sobre los elementos del mundo, y no sobre Cristo. See to it that no one deceives you through philosophy and empty falsehoods, as found in the traditions of men, in accord with the influences of the world, and not in accord with Christ.9Porque en Él habita toda la plenitud de la Deidad corporalmente; For in him, all the fullness of the Divine Nature dwells bodily.10y en Él estáis llenos vosotros, y Él es la cabeza de todo principado y potestad. And in him, you have been filled; for he is the head of all principality and power.11En Él también fuisteis circuncidados con circuncisión no hecha por mano de hombre mediante el despojo del cuerpo de la carne, sino con la circuncisión de Cristo, In him also, you have been circumcised with a circumcision not made by hand, not by the despoiling of the body of flesh, but by the circumcision of Christ.12habiendo sido sepultados con Él en el bautismo, donde así mismo fuisteis resucitados con Él por la fe en el poder de Dios que le resucitó de entre los muertos. You have been buried with him in baptism. In him also, you have risen again through faith, by the work of God, who raised him up from the dead.13Y a vosotros, los que estabais muertos por los delitos y por la incircuncisión de vuestra carne, os dio vida juntamente con Él, perdonándoos todos los delitos, And when you were dead in your transgressions and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, he enlivened you, together with him, forgiving you of all transgressions,14habiendo cancelado la escritura presentada contra nosotros, la cual con sus ordenanzas nos era adversa. La quitó de en medio al clavarla en la Cruz; and wiping away the handwriting of the decree which was against us, which was contrary to us. And he has taken this away from your midst, affixing it to the Cross.15y despojando (así de aquella) a los principados y potestades denodadamente los exhibió a la infamia, triunfando sobre ellos en la Cruz. And so, despoiling principalities and powers, he has led them away confidently and openly, triumphing over them in himself.16Que nadie, pues, os juzgue por comida o bebida, o en materia de fiestas o novilunios o sábados. Therefore, let no one judge you as concerns food or drink, or a particular feast day, or feast days of new moons, or of Sabbaths.17Estas cosas son sombra de las venideras, mas el cuerpo es de Cristo. For these are a shadow of the future, but the body is of Christ.18Que nadie os defraude de vuestro premio con afectada humildad y culto de los ángeles, haciendo alarde de las cosas que pretende haber visto, vanamente hinchado por su propia inteligencia carnal, Let no one seduce you, preferring base things and a religion of Angels, walking according to what he has not seen, being vainly inflated by the sensations of his flesh,19y no manteniéndose unido a la cabeza, de la cual todo el cuerpo, alimentado y trabado por medio de coyunturas y ligamentos, crece con crecimiento que viene de Dios. and not holding up the head, with which the whole body, by its underlying joints and ligaments, is joined together and grows with an increase that is of God.20Si con Cristo moristeis a los elementos del mundo ¿por qué, como si vivieseis en el mundo, os sujetáis a tales preceptos: So then, if you have died with Christ to the influences of this world, why do you still make decisions as if you were living in the world?21“No tomes”, “no busques”, “no toques” — Do not touch, do not taste, do not handle these things,22cosas todas que han de perecer con el uso— según los mandamientos y doctrinas de los hombres? which all lead to destruction by their very use, in accord with the precepts and doctrines of men.23Las cuales cosas tienen ciertamente color de sabiduría, por su afectada piedad, humildad y severidad con el cuerpo; mas no son de ninguna estima: solo sirven para la hartura de la carne. Such ideas have at least an intention to attain to wisdom, but through superstition and debasement, not sparing the body, and they are without any honor in satiating the flesh.
