Deuteronomio 12
1Estos son los mandamientos y preceptos que habéis de guardar y practicar en el país que Yahvé, el Dios de vuestros padres, os ha dado para que la poseáis todos los días que viviereis sobre la tierra: “These are the precepts and judgments which you must do in the land which the Lord, the God of your fathers, will give to you, so that you may possess it during all the days that you shall walk upon the soil.2Destruid por completo los lugares en que los pueblos que habéis de desposeer han servido a sus dioses, sobre los altos montes, sobre los collados y bajo todo árbol frondoso. Overturn all the places where the nations, which you will possess, worshipped their gods on lofty mountains, and on hills, and under every leafy tree.3Derrumbad sus altares, quebrad sus piedras de culto, quemad sus ascheras, haced pedazos las estatuas de sus dioses y borrad de aquellos lugares hasta los nombres. Scatter their altars and break their statues. Burn their sacred groves with fire and crush their idols. Abolish their names from those places.4No haréis así con Yahvé, vuestro Dios, But you shall not do the same to the Lord your God.5sino que frecuentaréis el lugar que Yahvé, vuestro Dios, escogiere de entre todas vuestras tribus para poner allí su nombre y su morada. Allí irás; Instead, you shall approach the place which the Lord your God will choose among all your tribes, so that he may set his name there, and may dwell in that place.6y allí presentaréis vuestros holocaustos y vuestros sacrificios, vuestros diezmos y las ofrendas alzadas de vuestras manos, vuestros votos y vuestras ofrendas voluntarias, y los primerizos de vuestro ganado mayor y menor. And you shall offer, in that place, your holocausts and victims, the tithes and first-fruits of your hands, and your vows and gifts, the firstborn of the cattle and of the sheep.7Allí comeréis ante Yahvé vuestro Dios, y os regocijaréis, vosotros y vuestras familias, por todas las obras de vuestra mano, en que Yahvé, vuestro Dios, os bendiga. And you shall eat it there, in the sight of the Lord your God. And you shall rejoice in all the things to which you shall set your hand: you and your household, which the Lord your God has blessed for you.8No haréis cada cual lo que bien le parezca, como aquí hacemos ahora; You shall not do there the things that we are doing here today: each one doing what seems good to himself.9pues hasta ahora no habéis llegado al descanso y a la heredad que Yahvé, tu Dios, te da. For even until the present time, you did not arrive at the rest and the possession, which the Lord your God will give to you.10Mas pasaréis el Jordán y habitaréis en el país que Yahvé, vuestro Dios, os dará en suerte; y cuando Él os dé descanso de todos vuestros enemigos que os rodean y habitéis en seguridad, You shall cross over the Jordan, and you shall live in the land which the Lord your God will give to you, so that you may have rest from all the surrounding enemies, and so that you may live without any fear,11entonces en el lugar que Yahvé, vuestro Dios, elija para morada de su Nombre, allí presentaréis todo lo que yo os mando, vuestros holocaustos y vuestros sacrificios, vuestros diezmos y las ofrendas alzadas de vuestras manos y todo lo más selecto que con voto hubiereis prometido a Yahvé. in the place which the Lord your God will choose, so that his name may be in it. To that place, you shall bring all the things that I instruct you: holocausts, and victims, and tithes, and the first-fruits of your hands, and whatever is best among the gifts that you shall vow to the Lord.12Y os regocijaréis ante Yahvé, vuestro Dios, vosotros, vuestros hijos y vuestras hijas, y vuestros siervos y vuestras siervas, y el levita que mora dentro de vuestras puertas, puesto que no tiene parte ni posesión entre vosotros. In that place, you shall feast before the Lord your God: you, and your sons and daughters, your men and women servants, as well as the Levite who dwells in your cities. For he has no other portion or possession among you.13Guárdate de ofrecer tus holocaustos en cualquier lugar se te antoje, Take care that you do not offer your holocausts in any place that you see.14sino que ofrecerás tus holocaustos en el lugar que eligiere Yahvé en una de tus tribus, y allí harás todo lo que yo te ordeno. Instead, you shall offer sacrifices in the place which the Lord will choose within one of your tribes, and you shall do whatsoever I instruct you.15Sin embargo, cuando quieras, podrás matar y comer carne en todas tus ciudades, según la bendición que Yahvé, tu Dios, te haya concedido. El impuro y el puro podrá comerla, del mismo modo que se come de la gacela y del ciervo. So, if you wish to eat, and if the eating of flesh pleases you, then kill and eat according to the blessing of the Lord your God, which he has given to you, in your cities: you may eat it whether it is unclean, that is, having blemish or defect, or whether it is clean, that is, whole and without blemish, of the kind which is permitted to be offered, such as the roe deer and the stag.16Pero no comáis sangre, la cual derramarás como agua sobre la tierra. Only the blood you shall not eat. Instead, you shall pour it upon the ground like water.17No podrás comer dentro de tus puertas el diezmo de tu trigo, de tu vino y de tu aceite, ni los primerizos de tu ganado mayor y menor, ni ninguna, de las ofrendas que hayas prometido con voto, ni tus oblaciones voluntarias, ni las ofrendas alzadas por tu mano; You may not eat in your towns the tithes of your crops, and your wine and oil, the firstborn of your herds and your flocks, nor anything which you will vow, or which you will offer spontaneously, nor the first-fruits of your hands.18sino que ante Yahvé, tu Dios, en el lugar escogido por Yahvé, tu Dios, los comerás, tú, tu hijo y tu hija, tu siervo y tu sierva, y el levita que mora dentro de tus puertas; y te regocijarás ante Yahvé, tu Dios, por todas las obras de tu mano. But you shall eat these before the Lord your God, in the place which the Lord your God will choose: you, and your son, and your daughter, and your man servant and woman servant, and the Levite who dwells in your cities. And you shall rejoice and be refreshed in the sight of the Lord your God by all the things to which you will extend your hand.19Guárdate de desamparar al levita en todo el tiempo que vivas sobre tu tierra. Be careful, lest you abandon the Levite, at any time while you are living in the land.20Cuando Yahvé, tu Dios, haya ensanchado tu territorio, según te tiene prometido, y tú digas: Quiero comer carne, porque tu alma tiene gana de comer carne, podrás comer carne según los deseos de tu alma. When the Lord your God will have enlarged your borders, just as he has spoken to you, and when you would eat the flesh that your soul desires,21Si el lugar que escogiere Yahvé, tu Dios, para poner allí su nombre, está lejos de ti, podrás matar reses de tu ganado mayor y menor que te dé Yahvé, tu Dios, según lo que te tengo mandado, y podrás comerlas dentro de tus puertas siempre que lo desee tu alma. but if the place which the Lord your God will choose, so that his name may be there, is far away, you may kill, from your herds and your flocks which you will have, in the manner I have instructed to you, and you may eat in your towns, as it pleases you.22Comerás de ellas del mismo modo que se come la gacela y el ciervo. El impuro y el puro igualmente podrán comerlas. Just as the roe deer and the stag may be eaten, so also may you eat these: you may eat both the clean and the unclean alike.23Pero guárdate de comer la sangre, porque la sangre es la vida; no comerás la vida con la carne. Only beware of this: you may not eat the blood. For their blood is for the soul. And because of this, you must not eat the soul with the flesh.24No la comerás, sino que la verterás como agua sobre la tierra. Instead, you shall pour it upon the ground like water,25No la comerás, para que te vaya bien a ti y a tus hijos después de ti, haciendo lo que es recto a los ojos de Yahvé. so that it may be well with you, and with your sons after you, when you will do what is pleasing in the sight of the Lord.26Pero las ofrendas sagradas que tienes que ofrecer, y las que hayas prometido con voto, las tomarás e irás al lugar escogido por Yahvé, But the things that you have sanctified and vowed to the Lord, you shall take up and bring to the place which the Lord will choose.27y ofrecerás tus holocaustos, la sangre y la carne, sobre el altar de Yahvé, tu Dios. La sangre de tus sacrificios será derramada sobre el altar de Yahvé, tu Dios; pero la carne es para tu comida. And you shall offer your oblations of flesh and of blood upon the altar of the Lord your God. You shall poor out the blood of your victims upon the altar. And you yourself shall eat the flesh.28Guarda y obedece todo esto que te ordeno, a fin de que te vaya bien a ti y a tus hijos después de ti para siempre, haciendo lo que es bueno y recto a los ojos de Yahvé, tu Dios. Observe and heed all the things that I instruct to you, so that it may be well with you, and with your sons after you, continually, when you will do what is good and pleasing in the sight of the Lord your God.29Cuando Yahvé, tu Dios, haya exterminado a los pueblos contra los cuales marchas para arrojarlos de delante de ti, y cuando los hayas arrojado y habites en su tierra, When the Lord your God will have abolished before your face the nations, which you shall enter so as to possess them, and when you will possess them and live in their land,30guárdate de sus seducciones; no los imites después de haberlos destruido delante de ti. Ni hagas indagaciones respecto de sus dioses, diciendo: ‘¿Cómo servían estos pueblos a sus dioses? Así lo haré también yo.’ be careful that you do not imitate them, after they have been overturned at your arrival, and that you do not seek their ceremonies, saying: ‘Just as these nations have worshipped their gods, so also will I worship.’31No hagas tal con Yahvé, tu Dios; porque ellos hacen en honor de sus dioses toda suerte de abominaciones que Yahvé aborrece, pues hasta queman en el fuego a sus hijos y sus hijas para honrar a sus dioses. You shall not act in like manner toward the Lord your God. For they have done to their gods all the abominations that the Lord spurns, offering their sons and daughters, and burning them with fire.32Cuida de practicar cuanto te mando, sin añadir ni quitar nada. What I command to you, this only shall you do, for the Lord. You may neither add nor subtract anything.”
