Deuteronomio 18
1Los sacerdotes levitas, toda la tribu de Leví, no tendrán parte ni herencia con (el resto de) Israel; se han de sustentar de los sacrificios de combustión ofrecidos a Yahvé y de la herencia de Él. “The priests and the Levites, and all who are from the same tribe, shall have no portion or inheritance with the rest of Israel. For they shall eat the sacrifices of the Lord and his oblations.2No tendrán herencia entre sus hermanos. Su herencia es Yahvé, como Él se lo tiene dicho. And they shall receive nothing else from the possession of their brothers. For the Lord himself is their inheritance, just as he said to them.3He aquí lo que los sacerdotes tienen derecho de tomar del pueblo, de parte de los que ofrecen un sacrificio, sea un buey o una oveja: se dará al sacerdote la espaldilla, las dos quijadas y el cuajar. This shall be the recompense for the priests from the people, and from those who offer victims, whether they will immolate an ox or a sheep. They shall give to the priest the shoulder and the breast,4Le darás también las primicias de tu trigo, de tu vino y de tu aceite, con las primicias del esquileo de tus ovejas. the first-fruits of grain, wine, and oil, and a portion of the wool from the shearing of the sheep.5Porque Yahvé, tu Dios, le ha elegido de entre todas tus tribus, para estar delante de Él y prestar servicio en nombre de Yahvé, él y sus hijos para siempre. For the Lord your God himself has chosen him out of all your tribes, so that he may stand and minister to the name of the Lord, him and his sons, forever.6Si un levita llevado por el deseo de su alma sale de alguna de tus ciudades de todo Israel, donde mora, y va al lugar escogido por Yahvé, If a Levite departs from one of the cities, throughout all of Israel, in which he lives, and if he wills and desires to go to the place which the Lord will choose,7prestará servicio en nombre de Yahvé, su Dios, como todos sus hermanos levitas que allí están delante de Yahvé. he shall minister in the name of the Lord his God, as do all his brothers, the Levites, who will be standing at that time in the sight of the Lord.8Comerá igual porción que los otros, aparte del producto de la venta de sus bienes patrimoniales. He shall receive the same portion of food as the rest also receive, besides that which is due to him in his own city, by succession from his fathers.9Cuando hubieres entrado en la tierra que Yahvé tu Dios va a darte, no aprenderás a imitar las abominaciones de esos pueblos. When you will have entered into the land which the Lord your God will give to you, be careful that you are not willing to imitate the abominations of those nations.10No se halle en medio de ti quien haga pasar a su hijo o a su hija por el fuego; ni quien practique la adivinación o el sortilegio, ni quien sea agorero, o mago, Do not let there be found among you one who would purify his son or daughter by leading them through fire, nor one who consults seers, nor one who observes dreams or omens. Do not let there be found among you one who practices the occult,11o encantador; ni quien consulte a espíritus y adivinos, o pregunte a los muertos. nor one who uses spells, nor one who consults demonic spirits, nor a diviner, nor one who seeks the truth from the dead.12Porque todo aquel que hace estas cosas es abominable ante Yahvé, tu Dios; y a causa de estas abominaciones Yahvé, tu Dios, los va a arrojar delante de ti. For the Lord abominates all these things. And, because of these wicked ways, he will destroy them at your arrival.13Sé escrupuloso en el cumplimiento de la Ley de Yahvé, tu Dios. You shall be perfect and without blemish with the Lord your God.14Porque estos pueblos que tú vas a desposeer escuchan a agoreros y adivinos, pero a ti te lo ha prohibido Yahvé, tu Dios. These nations, whose land you shall possess, they listen to soothsayers and diviners. But you have been otherwise instructed by the Lord your God.15Yahvé, tu Dios, te suscitará un Profeta de en medio de ti, de entre tus hermanos como yo; a él escucharéis. The Lord your God will raise up for you a PROPHET from your nation and from your brothers, similar to me. You shall listen to him,16Precisamente como tú pediste a Yahvé, tu Dios, en el Horeb, en el día de la asamblea, diciendo: ‘No oiga yo otra vez la voz de Yahvé, mi Dios, ni vea más este gran fuego, para que no muera.’ just as you petitioned of the Lord your God at Horeb, when the assembly was gathered together, and you said: ‘Let me no longer hear the voice of the Lord my God, and let me no longer see this very great fire, lest I die.’17Entonces me contestó Yahvé: ‘Tienen razón en lo que han dicho. And the Lord said to me: ‘They have spoken all these things well.18Les suscitaré un profeta de en medio de sus hermanos, semejante a ti; y pondré mis palabras en su boca, y él les hablará todo cuanto Yo le mandare. I will raise up a prophet for them, from the midst of their brothers, similar to you. And I will place my words in his mouth, and he will speak to them all the things that I will instruct him.19Y si alguno no escuchare mis palabras que él dirá en mi nombre, Yo le pediré cuenta de ello. But against anyone who is not willing to listen to his words, which he will speak in my name, I will stand forth as the avenger.20Pero el profeta que en su presunción dijere en mi nombre lo que Yo no le he mandado decir, o en mi nombre hablare de otros dioses, ese profeta morirá.’ But if a prophet, having been corrupted by arrogance, chooses to speak, in my name, things which I did not instruct him to say, or to speak in the name of foreign gods, he shall be put to death.21Y si preguntas en tu corazón: ‘¿Cómo podemos conocer la palabra que no ha hablado Yahvé?’ (Sábete que) But if, in silent thought, you respond: “How will I be able to recognize a word which the Lord has not spoken?”22si un profeta habla en nombre de Yahvé, y no se cumple la palabra, ni se realiza, es palabra que no ha hablado Yahvé; en su presunción habló el tal profeta; no le temas. you shall have this sign. If whatever that prophet predicts in the name of the Lord does not happen, then the Lord has not spoken it. Instead, the prophet has formed it through the swelling of his own mind. And for this reason, you shall not fear him.’ ”
