Deuteronomio 25
1Cuando hubiere pleito entre algunos y recurrieren al juez, se les juzgue, y sea absuelto el inocente y condenado el culpable. “If there is a case between persons, and they apply to the judges, they shall give the palm of justice to the one whom they perceive to be just, and they shall condemn of impiety the one who is impious.2Y si el culpable ha merecido ser azotado, el juez lo mandará tender en el suelo, y en su presencia le hará azotar a medida de su delito, contando los azotes. But if they see that the one who has sinned is worthy of stripes, they shall prostrate him and cause him to be beaten before them. According to the measure of the sin, so shall the measure of the stripes be.3No le hará dar más de cuarenta azotes, no sea que continúe dándole muchos azotes más y quede tu hermano deshonrado a tus ojos. Even so, these shall not exceed the number of forty. Otherwise, your brother may depart, having been wounded shamefully before your eyes.4No pondrás bozal al buey que trilla. You shall not muzzle an ox as it is treading out your crops in the field.5Si hermanos viven juntos y muriere uno de ellos sin tener hijos, la mujer del difunto no se casará fuera con un extraño, sino que su cuñado se llegará a ella y la tomará por mujer, cumpliendo con ella el deber del levirato. When brothers are living together, and one of them dies without children, the wife of the deceased shall not marry another. Instead, his brother shall take her, and he shall raise up offspring for his brother.6El primogénito que ella diere a luz, será sucesor del nombre del hermano difunto, para que su nombre no se borre de Israel. And the first son from her, he shall call by his brother’s name, so that his name will not be abolished from Israel.7Pero si el hombre no deseare tomar a su cuñada, subirá esta a la puerta donde están los ancianos, y dirá: ‘Rehúsa mi cuñado resucitar el nombre de su hermano en Israel; no quiere cumplir conmigo el deber de levirato.’ But if he is not willing to take his brother’s wife, who by law must go to him, the woman shall go to the gate of the city, and she shall call upon those greater by birth, and she shall say: ‘The brother of my husband is not willing to raise up his brother’s name in Israel; nor will he join with me.’8Entonces le llamarán los ancianos de su ciudad y le hablarán; y si él persiste y dice: ‘No quiero tomarla’, And immediately, they shall summon him to be sent, and they shall question him. If he responds, ‘I am not willing to accept her as a wife,’9su cuñada se acercará a él y en presencia de los ancianos le quitará el calzado del pie, le escupirá en la cara y contestará diciendo: ‘Así se ha de hacer al hombre que no quiere edificar la casa de su hermano.’ then the woman shall approach him in the sight of the elders, and she shall remove his shoe from his foot, and she shall spit in his face, and she shall say: ‘So shall it be done to the man who was not willing to build up his brother’s house.’10Y se le dará en Israel este nombre: La casa del descalzado. And his name shall be called in Israel: The House of the Unshod.11Si entre hombres que riñen, el uno con el otro, y la mujer del uno de ellos se acerca para librar a su marido de la mano del que lo golpea, y alargando la mano (contra este) le agarra por las partes vergonzosas, If two men have a conflict between themselves, and one begins to do violence to the other, and if the other’s wife, wanting to rescue her husband from the hand of the stronger one, extends her hand and grasps him by his private parts,12le cortarás a ella la mano; tu ojo no tendrá compasión. then you shall cut off her hand. Neither shall you weep over her with any mercy.13No tendrás en tu bolsa dos pesas: una grande y otra chica. You shall not have differing weights, greater and lesser, in your bag.14No tendrás en tu casa dos medidas: una grande y otra chica. Neither shall there be in your house a greater and a lesser measure.15Tendrás pesa exacta y justa; tendrás medida exacta y justa; para que vivas largo tiempo en la tierra que Yahvé, tu Dios, va a darte. You shall have a just and a true weight, and your measure shall be equal and true, so that you may live for a long time upon the land, which the Lord your God will give to you.16Porque abominable ante Yahvé, tu Dios, es todo el que hace tales cosas, todo el que comete iniquidad. For the Lord your God abominates him who does these things, and he loathes all injustice.17Acuérdate de lo que hizo Amalec en el camino, cuando saliste de Egipto, Remember what Amalek did to you, along the way, when you were departing from Egypt:18cómo te salió al encuentro en el camino, y asaltó a tus rezagados, todos los débiles que iban atrás, estando tú fatigado y agotado; y cómo no tuvo temor de Dios. how he met you and cut down the stragglers of the troops, who were sitting down, exhausted, when you were consumed by hunger and hardship, and how he did not fear God.19Ahora bien, cuando Yahvé, tu Dios, te diere descanso de todos tus enemigos a la redonda, en el país que Yahvé, tu Dios, te dará en propiedad hereditaria, borrarás la memoria de Amalec de debajo del cielo. No lo olvides. Therefore, when the Lord your God will give you rest, and you will have subdued all the surrounding nations, in the land which he has promised to you, you shall delete his name from under heaven. Take care not to forget this.”
