Eclesiastés 11
1Echa tu pan sobre la faz de las aguas, que al cabo de mucho tiempo lo hallarás. Cast your bread over running waters. For, after a long time, you shall find it again.2Repártelo a siete y aun a ocho, pues no sabes los males que pueden venir sobre la tierra. Give a portion to seven, and indeed even to eight. For you do not know what evil may be upon the earth in the future.3Cuando las nubes están cargadas de agua la derraman sobre la tierra, y si un árbol cae hacia el mediodía o hacia el norte, en el lugar donde cayere, allí quedará. If the clouds have been filled, they will pour forth rain upon the earth. If a tree falls to the south, or to the north, or to whatever direction it may fall, there it shall remain.4Quien solamente observa los vientos, nunca siembra, y el que mira a las nubes, nunca siega. Whoever heeds the wind will not sow. And whoever considers the clouds will never reap.5Así como no sabes cuál es el camino del viento, ni cómo (se forman) los huesos en el seno de la madre, así tampoco conoces la obra de Dios, quien hace todas las cosas. In the same manner that you do not know the way of the spirit, nor the way that bones are joined together in the womb of a pregnant woman, so you do not know the works of God, who is the Maker of all.6Siembra tu semilla muy de mañana, y a la tarde no dejes reposar tu mano, porque ignoras qué es mejor, si esto o aquello, o si ambas acciones surten el mismo efecto. In the morning, sow your seed, and in the evening, do not let your hand cease. For you do not know which of these may rise up, the one or the other. But if both rise up together, so much the better.7Dulce cosa es la luz, y ver el sol agrada a los ojos. Light is pleasant, and it is delightful for the eyes to see the sun.8Aunque un hombre viva largos años y todos ellos llenos de alegría, piense en los días tenebrosos, pues serán muchos. Todo lo que sucede es vanidad. If a man lives for many years, and if he has rejoiced in all of these, he must remember the many days of the dark times, which, when they will have arrived, will accuse the past of vanity.9Gózate, joven, en tu juventud, y alégrese tu corazón en los días de tu mocedad; sigue los caminos de tu corazón y lo que encanta tus ojos; pero sábete que de todas estas cosas Dios te pedirá cuenta. So then, rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart remain in what is good during the days of your youth. And walk in the ways of your heart, and with the perception of your eyes. And know that, concerning all these things, God will bring you to judgment.10Destierra de tu corazón las congojas, y aleja de tu carne el dolor. Pues la juventud y los albores de la vida son vanidad. Remove anger from your heart, and set aside evil from your flesh. For youth and pleasure are empty.
