¹Todas las cosas tienen su tiempo; todo lo que pasa debajo del sol tiene su hora. All things have their time, and all things under heaven continue during their interval.²Hay tiempo de nacer, y tiempo de morir; tiempo de plantar, y tiempo de arrancar lo plantado; A time to be born, and a time to die. A time to plant, and a time to pull up what was planted.³tiempo de matar, y tiempo de curar; tiempo de derruir, y tiempo de edificar; A time to kill, and a time to heal. A time to tear down, and a time to build up.⁴tiempo de llorar, y tiempo de reír; tiempo de entregarse al luto, y tiempo de darse a la danza; A time to weep, and a time to laugh. A time to mourn, and a time to dance.⁵tiempo de desparramar las piedras, y tiempo de recogerlas; tiempo de abrazar, y tiempo de dejar los abrazos; A time to scatter stones, and a time to gather. A time to embrace, and a time to be far from embraces.⁶tiempo de buscar, y tiempo de perder; tiempo de guardar, y tiempo de tirar; A time to gain, and a time to lose. A time to keep, and a time to cast away.⁷tiempo de rasgar, y tiempo de coser; tiempo de callar, y tiempo de hablar; A time to rend, and a time to sew. A time to be silent, and a time to speak.⁸tiempo de amar, y tiempo de aborrecer; tiempo de guerra, y tiempo de paz. A time of love, and a time of hatred. A time of war, and a time of peace.⁹¿Qué provecho saca el que se afana con todos sus trabajos? What more does a man have from his labor?¹⁰Consideré el trabajo que Dios ha dado a los hombres para que en él se ocupen. I have seen the affliction that God has given to the sons of men, in order that they may be occupied by it.¹¹Todas las cosas hizo Él buenas a su tiempo, y hasta la eternidad la puso en sus corazones, sin que el hombre pueda comprender la obra de Dios desde el comienzo hasta el fin. He has made all things good in their time, and he has handed over the world to their disputes, so that man may not discover the work which God made from the beginning, even until the end.¹²Y conocí que no hay cosa mejor para ellos que gozarse y llevar una vida regalada; And I realize that there is nothing better than to rejoice, and to do well in this life.¹³y si el hombre come y bebe y goza del fruto de su trabajo, también esto es un don de Dios. For this is a gift from God: when each man eats and drinks, and sees the good results of his labor.¹⁴Conocí que todas las obras de Dios subsisten siempre; nada se les puede añadir ni quitar. Dios lo hizo así para que se lo tema. I have learned that all the works which God has made continue on, in perpetuity. We are not able to add anything, nor to take anything away, from those things which God has made in order that he may be feared.¹⁵Lo que ya fue, existe aún, y lo que será, ya fue, porque Dios busca (renovar) lo pasado. What has been made, the same continues. What is in the future, has already existed. And God restores what has passed away.¹⁶Aún más vi debajo del sol: en el sitial del derecho sentada la maldad, y en el lugar de la justicia, la iniquidad. I saw under the sun: instead of judgment, impiety, and instead of justice, iniquity.¹⁷Díjeme entonces en mi corazón: “Dios juzgará al justo y al injusto, porque allá hay un tiempo para cada cosa y cada obra.” And I said in my heart: “God will judge the just and the impious, and then the time for each matter shall be.”¹⁸Dije además en mi corazón respecto de los hijos de los hombres: “Dios quiere probarlos y mostrarles que por sí mismos no son más que bestias.” I said in my heart, about the sons of men, that God would test them, and reveal them to be like wild animals.¹⁹Porque lo mismo que a las bestias sucede al hombre, como muere este así mueren aquellas; un mismo hálito tienen todos; y no tiene el hombre ventaja sobre la bestia, porque todo es vanidad. For this reason, the passing away of man and of beasts is one, and the condition of both is equal. For as a man dies, so also do they die. All things breathe similarly, and man has nothing more than beast; for all these are subject to vanity.²⁰Todos van a un mismo paradero; todos han sido sacados del polvo, y al polvo vuelven todos. And all things continue on to one place; for from the earth they were made, and unto the earth they shall return together.²¹¿Quién sabe si el hálito del hombre sube arriba, y el del animal desciende abajo, a la tierra? Who knows if the spirit of the sons of Adam ascend upward, and if the spirit of the beasts descend downward?²²Y vi que no hay cosa mejor para el hombre que gozarse en sus obras; pues esta es su suerte. Porque ¿quién le hará ver lo que será después de él? And I have discovered nothing to be better than for a man to rejoice in his work: for this is his portion. And who shall add to him, so that he may know the things that will occur after him?
