Ester 7
1Fueron el rey y Amán al banquete de la reina Ester. And so the king and Haman entered to drink with the queen.2También en este segundo día el rey, mientras bebía vino, preguntó a Ester: “¿Cuál es tu petición, reina Ester?, pues te será concedida; ¿y cuál es tu deseo? Aunque pidieres la mitad del reino te será otorgada.” And the king said to her again on the second day, after he was warmed with wine, “What is your request, Esther, so that it may be given to you? And what do you want done? Even if you ask for half of my kingdom, you will obtain it.”3Respondió la reina Ester y dijo: “Si he hallado gracia a tus ojos, oh rey, y si es del agrado del rey, sea concedida la vida mía —esta es mi petición, y la de mi pueblo—, este es mi deseo. She answered him, “If I have found favor in your eyes, O king, and if it pleases you, spare my soul, I ask you, and spare my people, I beg you.4Porque estamos vendidos, yo y mi pueblo, para ser entregados a la ruina y para que nos maten y exterminen. Si fuéramos vendidos para siervos y siervas hubiera callado; porque entonces la aflicción no habría sido tan grande como para molestar por ello al rey.” For I and my people have been handed over to be crushed, to be slain, and to perish. And if we were only being sold as servants and slaves, the evil might be tolerable, and I would have mourned in silence. But now our enemy is one whose cruelty overflows upon the king.”5Respondió el rey Asuero y dijo a la reina Ester: “¿Quién es, y dónde está el que pretende hacerlo así?” And king Artaxerxes answered and said, “Who is this, and of what power, that he would dare to do these things?”6Contestó Ester: “El adversario y el enemigo es este malvado Amán.” Con esto Amán se sobrecogió de terror ante el rey y la reina. And Esther said, “This is our most wicked enemy and foe: Haman!” Hearing this, Haman was suddenly dumbfounded, unable to bear the faces of the king and the queen.7Entonces el rey, en su ira, se levantó del banquete de vino, (y se fue) al jardín del palacio. Amán, entretanto, se quedó para rogar a la reina Ester por su vida, pues veía que el rey había resuelto perderlo. But the king, being angry, rose up and, from the place of the feast, entered into the arboretum of the garden. Haman likewise rose up to entreat Esther the queen for his soul, for he understood that evil was prepared for him by the king.8Cuando el rey volvió del jardín del palacio a la casa del banquete de vino, Amán se hallaba caído sobre el diván de Ester. Por lo cual dijo el rey: “¡Aun querrá violentar a la reina, en mi casa, en el palacio!” Apenas había salido esta palabra de la boca del rey, cuando cubrieron la cara de Amán. When the king returned from the arboretum of the garden and entered into the place of the feast, he found Haman collapsed on the couch on which Esther lay, and he said, “And now he wishes to oppress the queen, in my presence, in my house!” The word had not yet gone out of the king’s mouth, and immediately they covered his face.9Entonces Harboná, uno de los eunucos, dijo en presencia del rey: “En casa de Amán está todavía la horca de cincuenta codos de altura, preparada por Amán para Mardoqueo, el que habló en provecho del rey.” Y dijo el rey: “¡Colgadle a él mismo en ella!” And Harbona, one of the eunuchs who stood in ministry to the king, said, “Behold the wood, which he had prepared for Mordecai, who spoke up on behalf of the king, stands in Haman’s house, having a height of fifty cubits.” The king said to him, “Hang him from it.”10Colgaron a Amán en la horca que este había preparado para Mardoqueo, y se apaciguó la ira del rey. And so Haman was hanged on the gallows, which he had prepared for Mordecai, and the king’s anger was quieted.
