Éxodo 16
1Habiendo partido de Elim llegó todo el pueblo de los hijos de Israel al desierto de Sin, que está entre Elim y el Sinaí, el día quince del segundo mes después de su salida del país de Egipto. And they set out from Elim. And the entire multitude of the sons of Israel arrived at the desert of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month, after they departed from the land of Egypt.2Y murmuró todo el pueblo de los hijos de Israel contra Moisés y Aarón en el desierto. And the entire congregation of the sons of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness.3Les decían los hijos de Israel: “¡Ojalá hubiéramos muerto a manos de Yahvé en la tierra de Egipto, cuando nos sentábamos junto a las ollas de carne, cuando comíamos pan en abundancia! Vosotros nos habéis sacado a este desierto para matar de hambre a todo este pueblo.” And the sons of Israel said to them: “If only we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat around bowls of meat and ate bread until filled. Why have you led us away, into this desert, so that you might kill the entire multitude with famine?”4Dijo entonces Yahvé a Moisés: “Mira, Yo haré llover sobre vosotros pan del cielo; y saldrá el pueblo a recoger cada día la porción diaria; de esta manera lo pongo a prueba si quiere andar o no según mi ley. Then the Lord said to Moses: “Behold, I will rain down bread from heaven for you. Let the people go out and collect what is sufficient for each day, so that I may test them, as to whether or not they will walk in my law.5Mas al día sexto han de conservar lo que hayan traído, porque será el doble de lo que acostumbran recoger cada día.” But on the sixth day, let them prepare what they use for carrying, and let there be double what they were accustomed to collect on a single day.”6Dijeron, pues, Moisés y Aarón a todos los hijos de Israel: “Esta tarde conoceréis que Yahvé es quien os ha sacado del país de Egipto; And Moses and Aaron said to the sons of Israel: “In the evening, you will know that the Lord has led you away from the land of Egypt.7y a la mañana veréis la gloria de Yahvé, ya que ha oído vuestras murmuraciones que se dirigen contra Él; porque nosotros ¿qué somos para que murmuréis contra nosotros?” And in the morning, you will see the glory of the Lord. For he has heard your murmuring against the Lord. But as for us, truly what are we, that you would whisper against us?”8Y añadió Moisés: “Esto será al daros Yahvé esta tarde carne para comer, y a la mañana pan en abundancia; pues Yahvé ha oído vuestras murmuraciones con que murmuráis contra Él; pues ¿qué somos nosotros? No van contra nosotros vuestras murmuraciones, sino contra Yahvé.” And Moses said: “In the evening, the Lord will give you flesh to eat, and in the morning, bread in fullness. For he has heard your murmurings that you have murmured against him. For what are we? Your murmuring is not against us, but against the Lord.”9Dijo entonces Moisés a Aarón: “Di a todo el pueblo de los hijos de Israel: Acercaos a Yahvé, porque Él ha oído vuestras murmuraciones.” Moses also said to Aaron: “Say to the whole congregation of the sons of Israel, ‘Approach before the Lord. For he has heard your murmuring.’ ”10Aún estaba hablando Aarón a todo pueblo de los hijos de Israel, cuando ellos volvieron la cara hacia el desierto, y he aquí que la gloria de Yahvé se apareció en la nube. And when Aaron spoke to the entire assembly of the sons of Israel, they looked out toward the wilderness. And behold, the glory of the Lord appeared in a cloud.11Y habló Yahvé a Moisés, diciendo: Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:12“He oído las murmuraciones de los hijos de Israel. Diles: Entre las dos tardes comeréis carne y por la mañana os hartaréis de pan; y conoceréis que Yo soy Yahvé, vuestro Dios.” “I have heard the murmuring of the sons of Israel. Say to them: ‘In the evening, you will eat flesh, and in the morning, you will be filled with bread. And you shall know that I am the Lord your God.’ ”13Y sucedió que a la tarde vinieron codornices que cubrieron el campamento; y a la mañana había una capa de rocío alrededor del campamento. Therefore, it happened in the evening: quails, rising up, covered the camp. Likewise, in the morning, a dew lay all around the camp.14Y al evaporarse la capa de rocío se vio en la superficie del desierto una cosa menuda y granosa, tan menuda como la escarcha sobre la tierra. And when it had covered the face of the earth, it appeared, in the wilderness, small and as if crushed with a pestle, similar to hoar-frost on the ground.15Cuando la vieron los hijos de Israel, se decían unos a otros: “¿Qué es esto?” Pues no sabían lo que era. Les dijo Moisés: “Este es el pan que Yahvé os da por alimento.” When the sons of Israel had seen it, they said one to another: “Manhu?” which means “What is this?” For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them: “This is the bread that the Lord has given you to eat.16Esta es la orden prescrita por Yahvé: “Recoged de ello cada uno cuanto necesite para comer, un gomor por cabeza, conforme al número de vuestras personas; cada uno recogerá para la gente que tenga en su tienda.” This is the word that the Lord has instructed. Let each one collect as much of it as is sufficient to eat. One omer for each head. According to the number of your souls which live in a tent, so will you take of it.”17Lo hicieron así los hijos de Israel, y recogieron unos más, otros menos. And the sons of Israel did so. And they collected: some more, others less.18Mas cuando lo midieron con el gomor (encontraron que) quien había recogido mucho, nada tenía de mas, y quien había recogido poco, nada tenía de menos. Cada uno había recogido según lo que podía comer. And they measured by the measure of an omer. He who collected more, did not have too much; nor did he who prepared less, find too little. But each one gathered according to what they were able to eat.19Les dijo también Moisés: “Nadie deje nada de ello hasta el día siguiente.” And Moses said to them, “Let no one leave any of it behind until morning.”20Pero no obedecieron a Moisés, sino que algunos dejaron sobras para el día siguiente, y se produjeron gusanos y hediondez, por lo cual Moisés se airó contra ellos. And they did not listen to him, but they left some of it behind until morning, and it began to swarm with worms, and it putrefied. And Moses became angry against them.21Lo recogían pues todas las mañanas, cada uno según lo que necesitaba para comer; mas cuando se dejaba sentir el calor del sol se derretía. Then each one collected, in the morning, as much as would be sufficient to eat. And after the sun became hot, it melted.22El día sexto recogieron doble porción de alimento, dos gomor para cada persona. Y fueron todos los príncipes del pueblo a decírselo a Moisés; But on the sixth day, they collected a double portion, that is, two omers for each man. Then all the leaders among the multitude came, and they discoursed with Moses.23el cual les respondió: “Esto es lo que ha mandado Yahvé: Mañana es sábado, día de reposo, consagrado a Yahvé. Coced lo que hayáis de cocer, y lo que hayáis de hervir, hervidlo; y todo lo que sobre guardadlo como reserva para el día siguiente.” And he said to them: “This is what the Lord has spoken: Tomorrow, the rest day of the Sabbath, has been sanctified to the Lord. Whatever would be done, do it now. And whatever would be cooked, cook it now. Then anything that will have been left over, store it until morning.”24Y ellos lo guardaron para el día siguiente, según la orden de Moisés; y no hedió, ni se halló en él gusano alguno. And they did just as Moses had instructed, and it did not putrefy, nor were there any worms found in it.25Dijo entonces Moisés: “Comedlo hoy, porque hoy es sábado en honor de Yahvé; hoy no lo hallaréis en el campo. And Moses said: “Eat it today, because it is the Sabbath of the Lord. Today it will not be found in the field.26Seis días lo recogeréis, mas al séptimo día que es sábado, no habrá nada”. Gather for six days. But on the seventh day, it is the Sabbath of the Lord, for which reason it will not be found.”27A pesar de todo al séptimo día salieron algunos del pueblo a recogerlo pero no encontraron nada. And the seventh day arrived. And some of the people, going out to collect it, did not find it.28Dijo entonces Yahvé a Moisés: “¿Hasta cuándo rehusaréis guardar mis mandamientos y mis leyes? Then the Lord said to Moses: “How long will you be unwilling to keep my commandments and my law?29He aquí que Yahvé os ha dado el sábado; por eso en el día sexto os da pan para dos días. Quédese cada hombre en su sitio; no salga nadie el día séptimo de su lugar”. See how the Lord has given you the Sabbath, and, because of this, on the sixth day he distributes to you a double portion. Let each one remain with his own, and let no one go forth from his place on the seventh day.”30Y descansó el pueblo el día séptimo. And the people kept the Sabbath on the seventh day.31La casa de Israel dio a ese alimento el nombre de maná. Era como granos de cilantro, blanco, y su sabor como de torta de miel. And the house of Israel called its name ‘Manna.’ It was like white coriander seed, and its taste was like wheat flour with honey.32Y dijo Moisés: “Esto es lo que manda Yahvé: Llenad de maná un gomor, a fin de que se guarde para vuestros descendientes y vean ellos el pan con que os he alimentado en el desierto cuando os saqué del país de Egipto.” Then Moses said: “This is the word that the Lord has instructed: Fill an omer of it, and let it be kept for future generations hereafter, so that they may know the bread, with which I nourished you in the wilderness, when you had been led away from the land of Egypt.”33Dijo, pues, Moisés a Aarón: “Toma una vasija y pon en ella un gomor completo de maná, y colócalo delante de Yahvé, a fin de guardarlo para vuestros descendientes”. And Moses said to Aaron, “Take one vessel, and put manna into it, as much as an omer is able to hold. And store it in the sight of the Lord, to keep for your generations,34Y de acuerdo con lo que Yahvé había mandado a Moisés, puso Aarón el (maná) ante el Testimonio para guardarlo. just as the Lord instructed Moses.” And so, Aaron placed it in the tabernacle, in reserve.35Los hijos de Israel comieron el maná cuarenta años, hasta que llegaron a tierra habitada. Comieron el maná hasta llegar a los confines del país de Canaán. Now the sons of Israel ate manna for forty years, until they arrived in a habitable land. With this food they were nourished, even until they touched the borders of the land of Canaan.36El gomor es la décima parte del efa. Now an omer is a tenth part of an ephah.
