1Al tercer mes después de la salida de la tierra de Egipto, ese mismo día, llegaron los hijos de Israel al desierto de Sinaí. In the third month of the departure of Israel from the land of Egypt, in that day, they arrived in the wilderness of Sinai.2Habiendo partido de Rafidim, llegaron al desierto de Sinaí y acamparon en el desierto. Allí acampó Israel frente a la montaña. Thus, setting out from Raphidim, and going directly to the desert of Sinai, they encamped in the same place, and there Israel pitched their tents away from the region of the mountain.3Moisés subió hacia Dios, y le llamó Yahvé desde el monte, diciendo: “Así dirás a la casa de Jacob y anunciarás a los hijos de Israel: Then Moses ascended to God. And the Lord called to him from the mountain, and he said: “This you shall say to the house of Jacob, and announce to the sons of Israel:4Vosotros habéis visto lo que he hecho a los egipcios, y cómo os he llevado sobre alas de águila y os he traído a Mí. ‘You have seen what I have done to the Egyptians, in what way I carried you upon the wings of eagles and how I have taken you for myself.5Ahora, pues, si de veras escuchareis mi voz y guardareis mi pacto, seréis entre todos los pueblos mi propiedad particular, pues mía es toda la tierra. If, therefore, you will hear my voice, and you will keep my covenant, you will be to me a particular possession out of all people. For all the earth is mine.6y seréis para Mí un reino de sacerdotes y una nación santa. Estas son las palabras que has de decir a los hijos de Israel.” And you will be to me a priestly kingdom and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you will speak to the sons of Israel.”7Fue Moisés y convocó a los ancianos del pueblo, a los cuales expuso todas estas palabras según Yahvé le había mandado. Moses went, and calling together those greater by birth among the people, he set forth all the words which the Lord had commanded.8Y todo el pueblo respondió a una voz, diciendo: “Haremos todo cuanto ha dicho Yahvé.” Y Moisés llevó a Yahvé la respuesta del pueblo. And all the people responded together: “Everything that the Lord has spoken, we shall do.” And when Moses had related the words of the people to the Lord,9Entonces dijo Yahvé a Moisés: “He aquí que Yo vendré a ti en una densa nube para que el pueblo oiga que hablo contigo, y también te dé crédito para siempre.” Y refirió Moisés a Yahvé las palabras del pueblo. the Lord said to him: “Soon now, I will come to you in the mist of a cloud, so that the people may hear me speaking to you, and so that they may believe you continuously.” Therefore, Moses reported the words of the people to the Lord,10Luego dijo Yahvé a Moisés: “Vuélvete al pueblo y santifícalos hoy y mañana. Que se laven sus vestidos, who said to him: “Go to the people, and sanctify them today, and tomorrow, and let them wash their garments.11y estén preparados para el día tercero; porque al tercer día descenderá Yahvé a la vista de todo el pueblo sobre el monte Sinaí. And let them be prepared on the third day. For on the third day, the Lord will descend, in the sight of all the people, over Mount Sinai.12Le señalarás al pueblo un límite en torno (al monte), diciendo: Guardaos de subir al monte y aun de tocar su falda. Todo el que tocare el monte morirá irremisiblemente. And you will establish limits for the people all around, and you will say to them: ‘Take care not to ascend to the mountain, and that you do not touch its parts. All who touch the mountain, shall die a death.’13Nadie lo toque con la mano, pues será apedreado o asaeteado; sea animal, sea hombre, perderá la vida. Cuando suene la trompeta, entonces subirán al monte.” Hands shall not touch him, but he shall be crushed with stones, or he shall be pierced through with darts. Whether it be a beast or a man, he shall not live. For when the trumpet begins to sound, perhaps they might go up toward the mountain.”14Bajó, pues, Moisés del monte, adonde estaba el pueblo, y santificó al pueblo, y ellos lavaron sus vestidos. And Moses came down from the mountain to the people, and he sanctified them. And when they had washed their garments,15Y dijo al pueblo: “Preparaos para el tercer día, y no toquéis mujer.” he said to them, “Be prepared on the third day, and do not draw near to your wives.”16Al tercer día, al rayar el alba, hubo truenos y relámpagos y una densa nube sobre el monte, y también un toque penetrante de trompeta; por lo cual todo el pueblo que estaba en el campamento comenzó a temblar. And now, the third day arrived and the morning dawned. And behold, thunders began to be heard, and also lightning flashed, and a very dense cloud covered the mountain, and the noise of the trumpet resounded vehemently. And the people who were in the camp were fearful.17Entonces Moisés hizo salir al pueblo del campamento para ir al encuentro de Dios, y se apostaron al pie del monte. And when Moses had led them out to meet God, from the place of the camp, they stood at the base of the mountain.18Todo el monte Sinaí humeaba, porque Yahvé descendía sobre él en medio de fuego. Este humo subía como el humo de un horno, y todo el monte temblaba fuertemente. Then all of Mount Sinai was smoking. For the Lord had descended over it with fire, and smoke ascended from it, as from a furnace. And the entire mountain was terrible.19El sonido de la trompeta se sentía cada vez más fuerte; mientras Moisés hablaba y Dios le respondía con voz (de trueno). And the sound of the trumpet gradually increased to be louder, and extended to be longer. Moses was speaking, and God was answering him.20Después, cuando Yahvé había descendido sobre el monte Sinaí, sobre la cumbre del monte, llamó a Moisés a la cumbre del monte y Moisés subió, And the Lord descended over Mount Sinai, to the very top of the mountain, and he called Moses to its summit. And when he had ascended there,21y dijo Yahvé a Moisés: “Desciende y prohíbe terminantemente al pueblo que traspase los límites por ver a Yahvé, no sea que mueran muchos de ellos; he said to him: “Descend, and call the people to witness, lest they might be willing to transgress the limits, so as to see the Lord, and a very great multitude of them might perish.22y que también los sacerdotes que se acercan a Yahvé se santifiquen para que Yahvé no haga estragos entre ellos.” Likewise, the priests who approach toward the Lord, let them be sanctified, lest he strike them down.”23Moisés respondió a Yahvé: “El pueblo no podrá subir al monte Sinaí; porque Tú nos lo has prohibido, diciendo: Señala límites alrededor del monte y santifícalo.” And Moses said to the Lord: “The people are not able to ascend to Mount Sinai. For you testified, and you commanded, saying: ‘Set limits around the mountain, and sanctify it.’ ”24Yahvé le dijo: “Anda y baja, y después subirás tú y Aarón contigo; pero los sacerdotes y el pueblo no traspasen los límites para subir hacia Yahvé, no sea que haga estragos entre ellos.” And the Lord said to him, “Go, descend. And you shall ascend, and Aaron with you. But let not the priests or the people transgress the limits, nor ascend to the Lord, lest perhaps he may put them to death.”25Bajó, pues, Moisés adonde estaba el pueblo y se lo dijo. And Moses descended to the people, and he explained everything to them.
