Éxodo 21

1Estas son las leyes que les has de dar: “These are the judgments which you shall place before them:2Cuando comprares un esclavo hebreo, te servirá seis años, más al séptimo saldrá libre sin pagar nada. If you buy a Hebrew servant, six years shall he serve you; in the seventh, he shall depart freely, without charge.3Si entró solo, solo saldrá; si tenía mujer, saldrá con él su mujer. With whatever clothing he arrived, with the like let him depart. If he has a wife, his wife also shall depart, at the same time.4Si su amo le dio mujer, y ella le dio (a su marido) hijos o hijas, la mujer y sus hijos serán de su amo, y él saldrá solo. But if his lord gave him a wife, and she has borne sons and daughters, the woman and her children shall belong to her lord. Yet still, he himself will go out with his clothing.5Mas si el esclavo dijere: “Amo a mi señor, y a mi mujer y a mis hijos, no quiero salir libre”, And if the servant will say, ‘I love my lord, and my wife and children, I will not depart freely,’6su amo lo llevará ante Dios, y arrimándolo a la puerta o al poste de ella, su amo le horadará la oreja con una lezna; y así quedará esclavo suyo para siempre. then his lord shall make an offering for him to the heavens, and it shall be applied to the door and the posts, and he will pierce his ear with an awl. And he shall be his servant in perpetuity.7Cuando un hombre vendiere a su hija por esclava, ella no saldrá como salen los esclavos. If anyone sells his daughter to be a servant, she shall not depart as a female servant is accustomed to go out.8Si no agrada a su señor que la había destinado para sí, permita él su rescate; mas no podrá venderla a gente extraña, por haberla engañado. If she displeases the eyes of her lord, to whom she had been delivered, he shall dismiss her. But he shall have no authority to sell her to a foreign people, even if he despises her.9Si la destina para su hijo, la ha de tratar según el derecho de las hijas. But if he has betrothed her to his son, he shall treat her according to the custom with daughters.10Si toma para sí otra mujer, no le disminuirá la comida, ni el vestido, ni el deber conyugal. And if he takes another for him, he shall provide to the maiden a marriage, and clothing, and he shall not refuse the price of her chastity.11Y si él no quiere darle estas tres cosas, puede ella salirse, sin pagar nada, sin rescate. If he does not do these three things, she shall depart freely, without money.12El que hiera mortalmente a otro, muera irremisiblemente. Whoever strikes a man, intending to murder, shall be put to death.13Mas si no le hizo asechanzas, sino que Dios le dejó caer en su mano, para este tal Yo te señalaré lugar donde podrá refugiarse. But if he did not lie in wait for him, but God delivered him into his hands, then I will appoint for you a place to which he must flee.14Pero al que obrare con malicia contra su prójimo, matándole con alevosía, a ese lo arrancarás hasta de mi altar para matarlo. If someone murders his neighbor with deliberation, by lying in wait, you shall tear him away from my altar, so that he may die.15El que pegare a su padre o a su madre, muera irremisiblemente. Whoever strikes his father or mother shall die a death.16Quien robare un hombre y le vendiere, o si fuere hallado todavía en su poder, muera irremisiblemente. Whoever will have stolen a man and sold him, having been convicted of the crime, shall be put to death.17El que maldijere a su padre o a su madre, muera sin remedio. Whoever speaks evil of his father or mother shall die a death.18Cuando riñeren unos hombres y el uno hiriere al otro con piedra o con el puño, sin causarle la muerte, y si este después de hacer cama If men will have quarreled, and one of them has struck his neighbor with a stone or a fist, and he does not die, but lies in bed,19se levantare y anduviere fuera, apoyándose en su bastón, quedará libre aquel que lo hirió. Le pagará solamente el tiempo perdido y los gastos de su curación completa. if he gets up again and can walk outside on his staff, he who struck him will be innocent, but only if he makes sufficient restitution for his deeds and for the cost of the physicians.20Quien hiriere con un palo a su siervo o a su sierva, de modo que muera bajo su mano, caerá irremisiblemente bajo la ley de venganza. Whoever strikes his male or female servant with a staff, and if they have died by his hands, he shall be guilty of a crime.21Pero si sobreviviere un día o dos, no será castigado, por cuanto es hacienda suya. But if he survives for one day or two, he shall not be subject to punishment, because it is his money.22Cuando hombres trabados en riña dieren un golpe a una mujer encinta, de modo que aborte, sin más daño, (el culpable) será multado conforme a lo que imponga el marido de la mujer y según determinen los jueces. If men will have quarreled, and one of them has struck a pregnant woman, and as a result she miscarries, but she herself survives, he shall be subject to as much damage as the husband of the woman shall petition from him, or as arbitrators shall judge.23Pero si resultare daño, darás vida por vida, But if her death will have followed, he will repay a life for a life,24ojo por ojo, diente por diente, mano por mano, pie por pie, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a hand for a hand, a foot for a foot,25quemadura por quemadura, herida por herida, contusión por contusión. a scrape for a scrape, a wound for a wound, a bruise for a bruise.26Si uno, hiriendo el ojo de su siervo o el ojo de su sierva lo destruyere, le dará libertad en compensación de su ojo. If anyone will have struck the eye of his male or female servant, having left them with one eye, he shall release them freely, because of the eye that he has put out.27Asimismo, si hiciere saltar un diente a su siervo o un diente a su sierva, lo pondrá en libertad en compensación de su diente. Likewise, if he knocks out a tooth of his male or female servant, he shall similarly release them freely.28Si un buey acornea a un hombre o a una mujer, con subsiguiente muerte, aquel buey será apedreado y no se comerá su carne, mas el dueño del buey quedará sin culpa. If an ox has struck a man or a woman with his horn, and if they die, it shall be stoned. And its flesh shall not be eaten; also, the owner of the ox will be innocent.29Pero si el buey acorneaba ya desde tiempo atrás, y su dueño, a pesar de ser avisado, no lo tuvo encerrado, de modo que pudo matar a hombre o a mujer, el buey será apedreado, y también su dueño será muerto. But if the ox had been pushing with his horn, from yesterday and the day before, and they warned his owner, but he did not confine it, and it will have killed a man or a woman, then the ox shall be stoned, and his owner shall be killed.30Si le imponen un precio de rescate, dará en rescate de su vida cuanto se le imponga. But if they have imposed a price on him, he shall give, in exchange for his life, whatever is asked.31Si acornea a un hijo o a una hija, hágase con él según esta ley. Likewise, if it has struck a son or a daughter with its horns, it shall be subject to a similar verdict.32Pero si el buey acorneare a un siervo o a una sierva, el dueño pagará treinta siclos de plata al dueño de ellos, y el buey será apedreado. If it attacks a male or female servant, he shall give thirty shekels of silver to their lord, yet truly the ox shall be stoned.33Si uno deja abierto un pozo, o si uno cava un pozo y no lo tapa, y cayere en él un buey o asno, If a man digs or opens a cistern, and does not cover it, and an ox or a donkey falls into it,34el propietario del pozo pagará indemnización en dinero al dueño de ellos, y el animal muerto será suyo. then the owner of the cistern shall repay the price of the beasts, and what is dead will belong to him.35Si el buey de uno hiere al buey de otro, y este muere, venderán el buey vivo partiéndose su precio, y también el buey muerto será dividido entre ellos. If the ox of a stranger wounds the ox of another, and it has died, then they shall sell the live ox and divide the price, but the carcass of the dead one they shall distribute between them.36Mas si era notorio que el buey acorneaba desde tiempo atrás y su dueño faltó en custodiarlo, este resarcirá el daño: buey por buey; mas el (buey) muerto será suyo. But if he knew that his ox had pushed with its horns, yesterday and the day before, and its owner did not confine it, then he shall repay an ox for an ox, and he will receive the whole carcass.”
