Éxodo 32
1Cuando el pueblo vio que Moisés tardaba en bajar del monte, se reunió alrededor de Aarón y le dijeron: “Anda, haznos un dios que vaya delante de nosotros, ya que no sabemos que ha sido de ese Moisés, ese hombre que nos ha sacado de la tierra de Egipto.” Then the people, seeing that Moses made a delay in descending from the mountain, gathered together against Aaron, and said: “Rise up, make us gods, who may go before us. But as for this man Moses, who led us away from the land of Egypt, we do not know what has befallen him.”2Les respondió Aarón: “Quitad los pendientes de oro de las orejas de vuestras mujeres y de vuestros hijos y de vuestras hijas, y traédmelos.” And Aaron said to them, “Take the golden earrings from the ears of your wives, and your sons and daughters, and bring them to me.”3Y todos se quitaron los pendientes de oro que llevaban en las orejas, y los entregaron a Aarón. And the people did what he had commanded, carrying the earrings to Aaron.4Y él, tomándolos de sus manos le dio forma con el buril e hizo así un becerro de fundición. Entonces ellos dijeron: “Este es tu Dios, oh Israel, el que te ha sacado de la tierra de Egipto.” And when he had received them, he formed these by the work of a casting furnace, and he made from these a molten calf. And they said: “These are your gods, O Israel, who led you away from the land of Egypt.”5Viendo esto Aarón, erigió un altar ante el becerro e hizo esta proclamación: “Mañana habrá fiesta en honor de Yahvé.” And when Aaron had seen it, he built an altar before it, and he cried out with a voice of proclamation, saying, “Tomorrow is the solemnity of the Lord.”6Y levantándose al día siguiente muy temprano, ofrecieron holocaustos y presentaron sacrificios pacíficos. Luego se sentó el pueblo a comer y beber, y después se levantaron a divertirse. And rising up in the morning, they offered holocausts, and peace victims, and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and they rose up to play.7Entonces habló Yahvé a Moisés, y dijo: “¡Ve, baja! porque ha pecado tu pueblo que sacaste de la tierra de Egipto. Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: “Go, descend. Your people, whom you led away from the land of Egypt, have sinned.8Muy pronto se han apartado del camino que Yo les había prescrito. Se han hecho un becerro de fundición y se han postrado ante él; le han ofrecido sacrificios y han dicho: “Este es tu Dios, oh Israel, el que te ha sacado de la tierra de Egipto.” They have quickly withdrawn from the way which you revealed to them. And they have made for themselves a molten calf, and they have worshiped it. And immolating victims to it, they have said: ‘These are your gods, O Israel, who led you away from the land of Egypt.’ ”9Y dijo Yahvé a Moisés: “Veo que este pueblo es un pueblo de dura cerviz. And again, the Lord said to Moses: “I discern that this people is stiff-necked.10Déjame ahora para que se encienda mi ira contra ellos y los consuma; de ti, en cambio, haré un gran pueblo.” Release me, so that my fury may be enraged against them, and I may destroy them, and then I will make of you a great nation.”11Pero Moisés imploró a Yahvé, su Dios, diciendo: “¿Por qué, oh Yahvé, ha de encenderse tu ira contra tu pueblo, que Tú sacaste de la tierra de Egipto con gran poder y mano fuerte? Then Moses prayed to the Lord his God, saying: “Why, O Lord, is your fury enraged against your people, whom you led away from the land of Egypt, with great strength and with a mighty hand?12¿Por qué han de decir los egipcios: Para hacerles mal los ha sacado a fin de matarlos en las montañas, y extirparlos de sobre la faz de la tierra? Deja el ardor de tu ira y arrepiéntete del mal contra tu pueblo. I beg you, let not the Egyptians say, ‘He cleverly led them away, so that he could put them to death in the mountains and destroy them from the earth.’ Let your anger be quieted and appeased concerning the wickedness of your people.13Acuérdate de Abrahán, de Isaac y de Israel, siervos tuyos, a los cuales por Ti mismo juraste, diciéndoles: Multiplicaré vuestra descendencia como las estrellas del cielo; y toda esta tierra que os tengo prometida, la daré a vuestros descendientes, y ellos la poseerán para siempre.” Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, your servants, to whom you swore by your very self, saying: ‘I will multiply your offspring like the stars of heaven. And this entire land, about which I have spoken, I will give to your offspring. And you shall possess it forever.’ ”14Y se arrepintió Yahvé del mal con que había amenazado a su pueblo. And the Lord was appeased from doing the evil which he had spoken against his people.15Se volvió Moisés y bajó del monte, con las dos tablas del Testimonio en su mano; tablas escritas por ambos lados; por una y otra cara estaban escritas. And Moses returned from the mountain, carrying the two tablets of the testimony in his hand, written on both sides,16Las tablas eran obra de Dios, y la escritura era escritura de Dios, grabada sobre las tablas. and accomplished by the work of God. Also, the writing of God was engraved on the tablets.17Cuando Josué oyó la voz del pueblo que gritaba, dijo a Moisés: “Gritos de guerra hay en el campamento.” Then Joshua, hearing the tumult of the people shouting, said to Moses: “The outcry of battle is heard in the camp.”18Respondió él: “No son gritos de victoria, ni alaridos de derrota. Voz de canto es lo que oigo.” But he responded: “It is not the clamor of men being exhorted to battle, nor the shout of men being compelled to flee. But I hear the voice of singing.”19Mas cuando Moisés estuvo cerca del campamento y vio el becerro y las danzas, se encendió su ira de tal manera que arrojó de su mano las tablas y las hizo pedazos al pie del monte. And when he had approached to the camp, he saw the calf and the dances. And being very angry, he threw down the tablets from his hand, and he broke them at the base of the mountain.20Luego tomó el becerro que habían hecho, lo quemó y lo molió hasta reducirlo a polvo, el cual esparció en el agua y se lo dio de beber a los hijos de Israel. And seizing the calf, which they had made, he burnt it and crushed it, even to dust, which he scattered into water. And he gave from it to the sons of Israel to drink.21Y dijo Moisés a Aarón: “¿Qué te hizo este pueblo para que le hayas acarreado pecado tan grave?” And he said to Aaron, “What has this people done to you, so that you would bring upon them the greatest sin?”22Aarón respondió: “No se encienda la ira de mi señor. Tú mismo sabes que este pueblo es propenso al mal. And he answered him: “Let not my lord be indignant. For you know this people, that they are prone to evil.23Me dijeron: ‘Haznos un dios que vaya delante de nosotros; ya que no sabemos qué ha sucedido a ese Moisés, ese hombre que nos ha sacado de la tierra de Egipto.’ They said to me: ‘Make gods for us, who may go before us. For this Moses, who led us away from the land of Egypt, we do not know what has befallen him.’24Yo les contesté: ‘Quien tenga oro, quíteselo.’ Me lo dieron y yo lo eché al fuego y salió este becerro.” And I said to them, ‘Which of you has gold?’ And they took it and gave it to me. And I threw it into the fire, and this calf came out.”25Entonces Moisés viendo al pueblo desenfrenado —pues Aarón les había dado rienda suelta, para que se alegrasen sus enemigos—, Therefore, Moses, seeing that the people were naked (for Aaron had stripped them because of the disgrace of their sordidness, and he had set them naked among their enemies),26se puso a la puerta del campamento, y exclamo: “¡A mí los de Yahvé!” Y se reunieron con él todos los hijos de Leví. and standing at the gate of the camp, said: “If anyone is for the Lord, let him join with me.” And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together to him.27Y les dijo: “Así dice Yahvé, el Dios de Israel: Cíñase cada uno su espada sobre su muslo, y pasad y repasad por el campamento de puerta en puerta, y matad, cada uno a su hermano, a su amigo y a su pariente.” And he said to them: “Thus says the Lord God of Israel: Let a man place his sword at his thigh. Go forth, and then return, from gate to gate, through the midst of the camp, and let each one kill his brother, and friend, and neighbor.”28Hicieron los hijos de Leví según la orden de Moisés; y perecieron en aquel día unos tres mil hombres del pueblo. And the sons of Levi did according to the words of Moses, and there fell on that day about twenty-three thousand men.29Y dijo Moisés: “Hoy os habéis consagrado a Yahvé, cada uno contra su hijo y su hermano; para que hoy recibáis bendición.” And Moses said: “On this day, you have consecrated your hands to the Lord, each one in his son and in his brother, so that a blessing may be given to you.”30Al día siguiente dijo Moisés al pueblo: “Habéis cometido un gran pecado. Subiré ahora a Yahvé; quizás podré obtener la remisión de vuestro pecado.” Then, when the next day arrived, Moses spoke to the people: “You have sinned the greatest sin. I will ascend to the Lord. Perhaps, in some way, I might be able to entreat him for your wickedness.”31Y se volvió Moisés a Yahvé y dijo: “¡Ay! este pueblo ha cometido un pecado grande, fabricándose un dios de oro. And returning to the Lord, he said: “I beg you, this people has sinned the greatest sin, and they have made for themselves gods of gold. Either release them from this offense,32Pero ahora, perdona su pecado; y si no, bórrame de tu libro que has escrito.” or, if you do not, then delete me from the book that you have written.”33Yahvé respondió a Moisés: “Al que haya pecado contra Mí, a este le borraré de mi libro. And the Lord answered him: “Whoever has sinned against me, him I will delete from my book.34Por ahora ve y conduce al pueblo adonde te he dicho. He aquí que mi Ángel irá delante de ti, mas en el día de mi visitación los castigaré por su pecado.” But as for you, go and lead this people where I have told you. My angel will go before you. Then, on the day of retribution, I will also visit this sin of theirs.”35Así hirió Yahvé al pueblo por haber hecho el becerro por manos de Aarón. Therefore, the Lord struck the people for the guilt of the calf, which Aaron had made.
