Éxodo 4
1Respondió Moisés y dijo: “Mira que no me creerán ni escucharán mi voz; pues dirán: No se te ha aparecido Yahvé.” Responding, Moses said, “They will not believe me, and they will not listen to my voice, but they will say: ‘The Lord has not appeared to you.’ ”2Díjole Yahvé: “¿Qué es eso que tienes en tu mano?” “Una vara”, respondió él. Therefore, he said to him, “What is that you hold in your hand?” He answered, “A staff.”3Y le replicó: “Arrójala a tierra.” La tiró a tierra, y se convirtió en una serpiente; y huyó Moisés de ella. And the Lord said, “Cast it down upon the ground.” He cast it down, and it was turned into a snake, so that Moses fled away.4Dijo entonces Yahvé a Moisés: “Extiende tu mano y agárrala por la cola —y él extendiendo la mano, la agarró, y volvió a ser vara en su mano—, And the Lord said, “Reach out your hand, and take hold of its tail.” He reached out his hand and took hold, and it was turned into a staff.5para que crean que se te ha aparecido Yahvé, el Dios de sus padres, el Dios de Abrahán, el Dios de Isaac y el Dios de Jacob.” “So may they believe,” he said, “that the Lord God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.”6Le dijo además Yahvé: “Mete tu mano en tu seno.” Metió él la mano en su seno y la volvió a sacar; y he aquí que su mano estaba leprosa (blanca) como la nieve. And the Lord said again, “Put your hand into your bosom.” And when he had put it into his bosom, he brought it out leprous, resembling snow.7Y le dijo: “Vuelve a meter tu mano en tu seno.” Volvió a meter la mano en su seno, y cuando la sacó era como su carne. “Put your hand back,” he said, “into your bosom.” He put it back and brought it out again, and it was like the rest of his flesh.8“Así, pues, si no te creen ni escuchan la voz de la primera señal creerán a la voz de la segunda. “If they will not believe you,” he said, “and will not listen to the sermon of the first sign, then they will believe the word of the subsequent sign.9Y si no creen tampoco a estas dos señales, y no escuchan tu voz, tomarás agua del río, y la derramarás en el suelo; y el agua que sacares del río, se convertirá en sangre sobre el suelo.” But if they will not believe even these two signs, and they will not listen to your voice: take from the water of the river, and pour it upon the dry land, and whatever you will have drawn from the river will be turned into blood.”10Dijo entonces Moisés a Yahvé: “¡Ah, Señor! yo no soy hombre elocuente, y esto no desde ayer ni desde anteayer, ni desde que Tú hablas con tu siervo; sino que soy torpe de boca y torpe de lengua.” Moses said: “I beg you, O Lord, I was not eloquent yesterday or the day before. And from the time that you have spoken to your servant, I have a greater impediment and slowness of tongue.”11Le respondió Yahvé: “¿Quién ha dado al hombre la boca? ¿Y quién hace al mudo y al sordo, al que ve y al ciego? ¿No soy Yo, Yahvé? The Lord said to him: “Who made the mouth of man? And who has formed the mute and the deaf, the seeing and the blind? Was it not I?12Ahora, vete, que Yo estaré con tu boca y te enseñaré lo que has de decir.” Go on, therefore, and I will be in your mouth. And I will teach you what you shall say.”13Mas él replicó: “¡Ah, Señor!, te ruego que mandes (tu mensaje) por mano de aquel que has de mandar.” But he said, “I beg you, O Lord, send whomever else you would send.”14Entonces se encendió la ira de Yahvé contra Moisés, y le dijo: “¿No tienes a tu hermano Aarón, el levita? Sé que él habla bien; he aquí que precisamente ahora sale a tu encuentro, y al verte se regocijará en su corazón. The Lord, being angry at Moses, said: “Aaron the Levite is your brother. I know that he is eloquent. Behold, he is going out to meet you, and seeing you, he will rejoice in heart.15Hablarás, pues, con él y pondrás estas palabras en su boca, y Yo estaré con tu boca y con la suya, y os enseñaré lo que habéis de hacer. Speak to him, and put my words in his mouth. And I will be in your mouth and in his mouth, and I will reveal to you what you must do.16Él hablará por ti al pueblo y te servirá de boca, y tú serás para él (representante de) Dios. He will speak for you to the people, and he will be your mouth. But you will be with him in those things that pertain to God.17Toma también en tu mano esta vara, porque con ella has de hacer las señales.” Also, take this staff into your hand; with it you will accomplish the signs.”18Se fue Moisés para volver a casa de Jetró, su suegro, al cual dijo: “Iré con tu permiso, y volveré a ver a mis hermanos que están en Egipto, y veré si viven todavía.” Y dijo Jetró a Moisés: “Vete en paz.” Moses went forth, and he returned to Jethro, his father in law, and he said to him, “I shall go and return to my brothers in Egypt, so that I may see if they are still alive.” And Jethro said to him, “Go in peace.”19Yahvé dijo (de nuevo) a Moisés en Madián: “Anda, vuelve a Egipto; pues han muerto todos los que buscaban tu vida.” And so the Lord said to Moses in Midian: “Go, and return to Egypt. For all those who sought your life have died.”20Tomó, pues, Moisés a su mujer y a sus hijos, y montándolos sobre un asno, volvió a la tierra de Egipto. Tomó Moisés también la vara de Dios en su mano. Therefore, Moses took his wife and his sons, and he placed them upon a donkey, and he returned into Egypt, carrying the staff of God in his hand.21Y dijo Yahvé a Moisés: “Cuando vuelvas a Egipto, mira que hagas delante del Faraón todos los prodigios que he dado en tu mano; Yo, empero, endureceré su corazón, y no dejará ir al pueblo. And the Lord said to him, as he was returning to Egypt: “See that you accomplish, in the sight of Pharaoh, all the wonders that I have placed in your hand. I will harden his heart, and he will not release the people.22Y dirás al Faraón: “Así dice Yahvé: Israel es mi hijo, mi primogénito. And you shall say to him: ‘Thus says the Lord: Israel is my firstborn son.23Si Yo te digo: Deja ir a mi hijo para que me sirva, y si tú rehúsas dejarle ir, mira que Yo voy a matar a tu hijo, tu primogénito.” I have said to you: Release my son, so that he may serve me. And you were not willing to release him. Behold, I will put to death your firstborn son.’ ”24Y sucedió que en el camino, en la posada, Yahvé le salió al encuentro y quiso darle muerte. And while he was on the journey, at an inn, the Lord met him, and he was willing to kill him.25Tomó entonces Seforá un pedernal y cortando el prepucio de su hijo, tocó las piernas de (Moisés), diciendo: “Tú eres para mí un esposo de sangre.” For this reason, Zipporah took a very sharp stone, and she circumcised the foreskin of her son, and she touched his feet, and she said, “You are a bloody spouse to me.”26Y (Yahvé) le soltó por haber dicho ella: “esposo de sangre”, con motivo de la circuncisión. And he released him, after she had said, “You are a bloody spouse,” because of the circumcision.27A Aarón le dijo Yahvé: “Vete al desierto al encuentro de Moisés.” Partió, pues, y le encontró en el monte de Dios y le besó. Then the Lord said to Aaron, “Go into the desert to meet Moses.” And he went directly to meet him on the mountain of God, and he kissed him.28Moisés contó a Aarón todas las cosas para las cuales Yahvé le había enviado y todas las señales que le había mandado hacer. And Moses explained to Aaron all the words of the Lord, by which he had sent him, and the signs which he had commanded.29Fueron, pues, Moisés y Aarón y reunieron a todos los ancianos de los hijos de Israel. And they arrived at the same time, and they gathered together all the elders of the sons of Israel.30Aarón refirió todas las palabras que Yahvé había dicho a Moisés, el cual hizo las señales delante del pueblo. And Aaron spoke all the words which the Lord had said to Moses. And he accomplished the signs in the sight of the people,31El pueblo creyó, y al oír que Yahvé había visitado a los hijos de Israel y mirado su aflicción, inclinaron la cabeza y adoraron. and the people believed. And they heard that the Lord had visited the sons of Israel, and that he had looked with favor upon their affliction. And falling prostrate, they worshiped.
