1Dijo, pues, Yahvé a Moisés: “Di a Aarón: Extiende tu mano con tu vara sobre los canales, sobre los ríos y sobre las lagunas, y haz subir ranas sobre la tierra de Egipto.” The Lord also said to Moses: “Enter to Pharaoh, and you will say to him: ‘Thus says the Lord: Release my people in order to sacrifice to me.2Aarón extendió la mano sobre las aguas de Egipto; y subieron las ranas y cubrieron la tierra de Egipto. But if you are not willing to release them, behold, I will strike all your coasts with frogs.3Pero los magos hicieron lo mismo con sus encantamientos, haciendo subir las ranas sobre el país egipcio. And the river will seethe with frogs, which will go up and enter into your house, and your bedroom, and upon your bed, and into the houses of your servants and your people, and into your ovens, and into the remains of your foods.4El Faraón llamó a Moisés y a Aarón y dijo: “Pedid a Yahvé que aparte las ranas de mí y de mi pueblo, y yo dejaré salir al pueblo para que ofrezca sacrificios a Yahvé.” And to you, and to your people, and to all your servants, the frogs will enter.’ ”5Respondió Moisés al Faraón: “Dígnate decirme para cuándo he de rogar por ti, por tus siervos y por tu pueblo, a fin de que (Dios) quite las ranas de ti y de tus casas, y queden solamente en el río.” And the Lord said to Moses: “Say to Aaron: ‘Extend your hand over the rivers, and also over the streams and the marshes, and bring forth frogs over the land of Egypt.’ ”6“Para mañana”, contestó él. Replicó Moisés: “Será conforme a tu palabra, para que sepas que no hay como Yahvé, nuestro Dios. And Aaron extended his hand over the waters of Egypt, and the frogs came up and covered the land of Egypt.7Las ranas se apartarán de ti, de tus casas, de tus siervos y de tu pueblo, y quedarán solamente en el río.” Then the sorcerers also, by their incantations, did similarly, and they brought forth frogs upon the land of Egypt.8Después salieron Moisés y Aarón de la presencia del Faraón; e invocó Moisés a Yahvé a causa de las ranas que afligían al Faraón. But Pharaoh called Moses and Aaron, and he said to them: “Pray to the Lord, so as to take away the frogs from me and from my people. And I will release the people, so as to sacrifice to the Lord.”9E hizo Yahvé conforme a la súplica de Moisés, de manera que murieron las ranas en las casas, en los patios y en los campos. And Moses said to Pharaoh: “Appoint for me a time, when I should petition on behalf of you, and your servants, and your people, so that the frogs may be driven away from you, and from your house, and from your servants, and from your people, and so that they may remain only in the river.”10Las juntaron en montones y el país estaba lleno de hediondez. And he responded, “Tomorrow.” Then he said, “I will act according to your word, so that you may know that there is no one like the Lord our God.11Pero el Faraón viendo que se le daba respiro, endureció su corazón, y no los escuchó, como había dicho Yahvé. And the frogs will withdraw from you, and from your house, and from your servants, and from your people. And they will remain only in the river.”12Después dijo Yahvé a Moisés: “Di a Aarón: Extiende tu vara y golpea el polvo de la tierra, y se convertirá en mosquitos en todo el país de Egipto.” And Moses and Aaron departed from Pharaoh. And Moses cried out to the Lord on behalf of the promise that he had made to Pharaoh concerning the frogs.13Así lo hicieron: Aarón extendió su mano en que tenía la vara, y golpeó el polvo de la tierra; y hubo mosquitos sobre los hombres y sobre las bestias. Todo el polvo de la tierra se convirtió en mosquitos en todo el país de Egipto. And the Lord acted according to the word of Moses. And the frogs died out of the houses, and out of the villages, and out of the fields.14Los magos tentaron de hacer lo mismo con sus encantamientos, a fin de suscitar mosquitos, mas no pudieron. Hubo, pues, mosquitos sobre hombres y bestias. And they gathered them together into immense piles, and the land was polluted.15Dijeron entonces los magos al Faraón: “¡Este es el dedo de Dios!” Pero se endureció el corazón del Faraón, y no los escuchó, como había dicho Yahvé. Then Pharaoh, seeing that relief had been provided, hardened his own heart, and he did not listen to them, just as the Lord had instructed.16Yahvé dijo a Moisés: “Levántate muy de mañana, y preséntate al Faraón cuando salga hacia las aguas, y le dirás: Así dice Yahvé: Deja ir a mi pueblo, para que me sirva. And the Lord said to Moses: “Say to Aaron: ‘Extend your staff and strike the dust of the earth. And let there be stinging insects throughout the entire the land of Egypt.’ ”17Si no dejas ir a mi pueblo, he aquí que voy a enviar tábanos contra ti, contra tus siervos, tu pueblo y tus casas, de manera que se llenarán de tábanos las casas de los egipcios y también el suelo sobre el cual están. And they did so. And Aaron extended his hand, holding the staff, and he struck the dust of the earth, and there came stinging insects upon men and upon beasts. All the dust of the earth was turned into stinging insects through all the land of Egypt.18Mas distinguiré en ese día la región de Gosen, donde habita mi pueblo, para que no haya allí tábanos, a fin de que sepas que Yo soy Yahvé en medio de la tierra, And the sorcerers, with their incantations, did similarly, in order to bring forth stinging insects, but they were not able. And there were stinging insects, as much on men as on beasts.19que hago distinción entre mi pueblo y el tuyo. Mañana será esta señal.” And the sorcerers said to Pharaoh: “This is the finger of God.” And the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he did not listen to them, just as the Lord had instructed.20Hizo Yahvé así, y un enjambre de tábanos molestísimos vino sobre la casa del Faraón y las casas de sus siervos; y toda la tierra de Egipto fue devastada por los tábanos. The Lord also said to Moses: “Arise at first light, and stand in the sight of Pharaoh, for he will go out to the waters. And you will say to him: ‘Thus says the Lord: Release my people to sacrifice to me.21Entonces llamó el Faraón a Moisés y a Aarón y les dijo: “Id, ofreced sacrificios a vuestro Dios en este país.” But if you will not release them, behold, I will send upon you, and upon your servants, and upon your people, and into your houses, diverse kinds of flies. And the houses of the Egyptians will be filled with diverse kinds of flies, as well as the whole land in which they will be.22Moisés respondió: “No conviene hacerlo así, porque lo que hemos de sacrificar a Yahvé, nuestro Dios, es abominación para los egipcios. ¿No nos apedrearían los egipcios si sacrificáramos ante sus ojos lo que para ellos es abominable? And in that day, I will cause a miracle in the land of Goshen, where my people are, so that flies will not be there. And you will know that I am the Lord in the midst of the earth.23Iremos tres jornadas de camino por el desierto, y allí ofreceremos sacrificios a Yahvé, nuestro Dios, según Él nos mandare.” And I will set a division between my people and your people. Tomorrow this sign will be.’ ”24Contestó el Faraón: “Os dejaré ir, para que ofrezcáis en el desierto sacrificios a Yahvé vuestro Dios, con tal que no vayáis demasiado lejos. Rogad por mí.” And the Lord did so. And there came very grievous flies into the houses of Pharaoh and of his servants, and into all the land of Egypt. And the land was polluted, in this way, by the flies.25Moisés respondió: “He aquí que voy a salir de tu presencia y rogaré a Yahvé, y mañana los tábanos se alejarán del Faraón, de sus siervos y de su pueblo; pero que no vuelva el Faraón a obrar con engaño, impidiendo al pueblo que vaya a ofrecer sacrificios a Yahvé.” And Pharaoh called Moses and Aaron, and he said to them, “Go and sacrifice to your God in this land.”26Salió, pues, Moisés de la presencia del Faraón, y rogó a Yahvé. And Moses said: “It cannot be so. For we will immolate the abominations of the Egyptians to the Lord our God. For if we slaughter those things which the Egyptians worship, in their presence, they will stone us.27E hizo Yahvé conforme a la súplica de Moisés, y quitó los tábanos del Faraón, de sus siervos y de su pueblo, sin que quedase uno solo. We will sojourn three days’ journey into the wilderness. And we will sacrifice to the Lord our God, just as he has instructed us.”28Pero el Faraón endureció también esta vez su corazón y no dejó partir al pueblo. And Pharaoh said: “I will release you in order to sacrifice to the Lord your God in the desert. Yet you may only go so far. Petition for me.”
