Ezequiel 17

¹Me fue dirigida la palabra de Yahvé que dijo: And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:²“Hijo de hombre, propón un enigma y narra una parábola a la casa de Israel. “Son of man, propose an enigma and describe a parable to the house of Israel,³Dirás: Así habla Yahvé, el Señor: El águila grande, de inmensas alas y plumas largas, cubierta de plumaje de varios colores, vino al Líbano y se llevó la cima del cedro; and you shall say: Thus says the Lord God: A large eagle, with great wings and elongated pinions, full of feathers with many colors, came to Lebanon. And he took the kernel of the cedar.⁴arrancó el más alto de sus renuevos, lo trasladó al país de Canaán y lo puso en una ciudad de comerciantes. He tore off the summit of its branches, and he transported it to the land of Canaan; he placed it in a city of merchants.⁵Luego tomó de la semilla de la tierra y la sembró en un campo de plantación; la sembró junto a muchas aguas y la plantó como un sauce. And he took from the seed of the land and placed it in the ground for seed, so that it might take firm root above many waters; he placed it at the surface.⁶Brotó y se hizo una vid de mucha extensión, pero de poca elevación, para que sus sarmientos se dirigiesen hacia aquella (águila) y sus raíces estuviesen debajo de ella. Llegó, pues, a ser una parra que produjo ramas y echó retoños. And when it had germinated, it increased into a more extensive vine, low in height, with its branches facing toward itself. And its roots were underneath it. And so, it became a vine, and sprouted branches, and produced shoots.⁷Había también (otra) águila grande, de enormes alas y plumaje; y he aquí que aquella vid dirigió sus raíces hacia esta y desde el terreno donde estaba plantada hizo brotar sus sarmientos hacia ella para ser regada, And there was another large eagle, with great wings and many feathers. And behold, this vine seemed to bend its roots towards him, extending its branches toward him, so that he might irrigate it from the garden of its germination.⁸aunque había sido plantada en tierra buena junto a muchas aguas, para que echase ramas, llevase fruto y llegase a ser una parra magnífica. It had been planted in a good land, above many waters, so that it would produce branches and bear fruit, so that it would become a large vine.⁹Di: Así dice Yahvé, el Señor: ¿Acaso prosperará? ¿No arrancará sus raíces (la primera águila)? ¿No destruirá sus frutos para que se seque? Se secarán todas las hojas tiernas que echó. Sin gran esfuerzo ni mucha gente la arrancará de raíz. Speak: Thus says the Lord God: What if it does not prosper? Should he not pull up its roots, and strip off its fruit, and dry up all the branches that it has produced, and let it wither, though he is without a strong arm and without many people to pull it up by the root?¹⁰Cierto es que ha sido plantada. Pero ¿prosperará? ¿No se secará por completo cuando la toque el viento solano? En el terreno en que había brotado se secará.” Behold, it has been planted. What if it does not prosper? Should it not be dried up when the burning wind touches it, and should it not wither in the garden of its germination?”¹¹Y me vino la palabra de Yahvé, que dijo: And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:¹²“Di a la casa rebelde: ¿No sabéis lo que quiere decir esto? He aquí que vino el rey de Babilonia a Jerusalén, se apoderó de su rey y de sus príncipes y los llevó consigo a Babilonia. “Say to the provoking house: Do you not know what these things signify? Say: Behold, the king of Babylon arrives in Jerusalem. And he will take away its king and princes, and he will lead them away to himself in Babylon.¹³Y tomando a uno de la estirpe real, hizo pacto con él, y le hizo jurar, y sacó del país a los valientes, And he will take one from the offspring of the king, and he will strike a pact with him and receive an oath from him. Moreover, he will take away the strong ones of the land,¹⁴para que el reino quedase abatido sin (posibilidad de) levantarse y guardase el pacto para subsistir. so that it may be a lowly kingdom, and may not lift itself up, and may instead keep his pact and serve it.¹⁵Pero se rebeló contra él y envió sus embajadores a Egipto para que este le diese caballos y mucha gente. ¿Acaso prosperará? ¿Escapará quien hizo tal cosa? ¿Podrá salvarse el que rompió el pacto? But, withdrawing from him, he sent messengers to Egypt, so that it would give him horses and many people. Should he who has done these things prosper and obtain safety? And should he who has broken the pact go free?¹⁶Por mi vida, dice Yahvé, el Señor, que en la residencia del rey que le puso sobre el trono y cuyo juramento él despreció, quebrantando su pacto, con ese mismo (rey) morirá, en medio de Babilonia. As I live, says the Lord God, in the place of the king, who appointed him as king, whose oath he has made void, and whose pact he has broken, under which he was living with him, in the midst of Babylon, he shall die.¹⁷Y cuando se levanten terraplenes y se edifiquen torres para destrucción de muchas vidas, el mismo Faraón con su gran fuerza y numeroso ejército no tendrá gana de luchar por él. And not with a great army, nor with many people will Pharaoh undertake a battle against him, when he will cast up ramparts and build defenses, in order to put to death many souls.¹⁸Pues despreció el juramento y quebrantó el pacto, después de haber dado la mano. Por cuanto ha hecho todas estas cosas, no escapará. For he has despised an oath, in that he broke the pact. And behold, he had given his hand. And so, since he has done all these things, he shall not escape.¹⁹Por lo tanto, así dice Yahvé, el Señor: Por mi vida que echaré sobre su cabeza mi juramento que él ha despreciado, y mi pacto que él ha quebrantado. Because of this, thus says the Lord God: As I live, I will place upon his head the oath that he has spurned and the pact that he has betrayed.²⁰Extenderé sobre él mi red, y quedará preso en mi malla; le llevaré a Babilonia y allí le juzgaré por la traición que me hizo. And I will spread my net over him, and he will be captured in my dragnet. And I will lead him into Babylon, and I will judge him there for the transgression by which he has despised me.²¹Y caerán al filo de la espada todos los fugitivos de todas sus tropas, y los que quedaren serán esparcidos a todos los vientos; y conoceréis que Yo, Yahvé, he hablado. And all his fugitives, with all his procession, will fall by the sword. Then the remainder will be scattered into every wind. And you shall know that I, the Lord, have spoken.”²²Así dice Yahvé, el Señor: También Yo tomaré (una rama) de la cima del alto cedro y la plantaré; de lo más alto de sus renuevos arrancaré un tierno ramito y lo plantaré en un monte alto y elevado. Thus says the Lord God: “I myself will take from the kernel of the exalted cedar, and I will establish it. I will tear off a tender twig from the top of its branches, and I will plant it on a mountain, lofty and exalted.²³Sobre el alto monte de Israel lo plantaré, y echará ramas y producirá su fruto, y llegará a ser un cedro magnífico; debajo del cual habitarán todos los pájaros; a la sombra de sus ramas morarán todos los volátiles. On the sublime mountains of Israel, I will plant it. And it shall spring forth in buds and bear fruit, and it shall be a great cedar. And all the birds will live under it, and every bird will make its nest under the shadow of its branches.²⁴Y conocerán todos los árboles del campo que Yo soy Yahvé, que Yo humillé el árbol alto y ensalcé el árbol humilde, que Yo sequé el árbol verde e hice florecer el árbol seco. Yo, Yahvé, he hablado y lo haré.” And all the trees of the regions will know that I, the Lord, have brought low the sublime tree, and have exalted the lowly tree, and have dried up the green tree, and have caused the dry tree to flourish. I, the Lord, have spoken and acted.”
