Ezequiel 19
1Entona tú una elegía sobre los príncipes de Israel. “And as for you, take up a lament over the leaders of Israel,2Dirás: ¿Qué es tu madre? Una leona que se echó entre leones; en medio de leoncillos crió sus cachorros. and you shall say: Why did your mother, the lioness, recline among the male lions, and raise her little ones in the midst of young lions?3Y ensalzó a uno de sus cachorros, el cual llegó a ser leoncillo; aprendió a hacer presa y devoró hombres. And she led away one of her little ones, and he became a lion. And he learned to seize prey and to consume men.4Oyeron de él las gentes, y quedó preso en su hoyo; y le llevaron con ganchos a la tierra de Egipto. And the Gentiles heard about him, and they seized him, but not without receiving wounds. And they led him away in chains to the land of Egypt.5Viendo ella que esperaba (en vano) y que era infructuosa su esperanza, tomó otro de sus cachorros y le puso por leoncillo. Then, when she had seen that she was weakened, and that her hope had perished, she took one of her little ones, and appointed him as a lion.6Andaba este entre los leones, e se hizo leoncillo; aprendió a hacer presa y devoró hombres; And he advanced among the lions, and he became a lion. And he learned to seize prey and to devour men.7aprendió a hacer viudas y devastar ciudades; y al oír su rugido se espantaba el país y cuanto en él había. He learned to make widows, and to lead their citizens into the desert. And the land, with its plenitude, was made desolate by the voice of his roaring.8Pero se echaron sobre él las gentes de las comarcas circunvecinas; extendieron sobre él su red, y quedó preso en su hoyo. And the Gentiles came together against him, on every side, from the provinces, and they spread their net over him; by their wounds, he was captured.9Le pusieron en una jaula, con un gancho (en la nariz), y le llevaron al rey de Babel; y le metieron en la cárcel, para que no se oyese más su voz sobre los montes de Israel. And they put him into a cage; they led him in chains to the king of Babylon. And they cast him into a prison, so that his voice would no longer be heard upon the mountains of Israel.10Durante el tiempo de tu prosperidad tu madre era como una vid, plantada junto a las aguas, fecunda y frondosa por las muchas aguas. Your mother is like a vine, in your blood, planted by the water; her fruit and her branches have increased because of many waters.11Había en ella ramas fuertes para cetros de reyes, se elevaba su tronco por encima de los arbustos, y sorprendía por su altura y la multitud de sus sarmientos. And her strong branches were made into scepters for the rulers, and her stature was exalted among the branches. And she saw her own loftiness among the multitude of her branches.12Mas fue arrancada con furor y echada a tierra, y el viento solano secó sus frutos; se quebraron y se marchitaron sus robustas ramas y las devoró el fuego. But she was uprooted in wrath, and cast upon the ground. And the burning wind dried up her fruit. Her robust branches withered and were dried up. A fire consumed her.13Plantada está ahora en el desierto, en una tierra seca y sedienta; And now she has been transplanted into the desert, into a land impassable and dry.14más salió fuego de una vara de sus ramas, y devoró su fruto; y no le queda rama fuerte para cetro de rey. Elegía es esta, y de elegía servirá. And a fire has gone forth from a rod of her branches, which has consumed her fruit. And there is no strong branch in her to become a scepter for the rulers. This is a lamentation, and it shall be a lamentation.”
