Ezequiel 31

1El año undécimo, el primer día del tercer mes, me fue dirigida la palabra de Yahvé, que dijo: And it happened that, in the eleventh year, in the third month, on the first of the month, the word of the Lord came to me, saying:2“Hijo de hombre, di al Faraón, rey de Egipto, y a su multitud: ¿A quién te igualaste en tu grandeza? “Son of man, speak to Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, and to his people: To whom can you be compared in your greatness?3Mira a Asur: era un cedro del Líbano, de ramas hermosas, de umbroso follaje y elevada altura, cuya copa se perdía entre las nubes. Behold, Assur is like the cedar of Lebanon, with fair branches, and full of leaves, and of high stature, and his summit has been elevated above the thick branches.4Las aguas le habían dado crecimiento, y altura (las fuentes) del abismo, el cual hacía correr sus ríos alrededor del lugar donde estaba plantado, y hacía pasar sus arroyos por todos los árboles del campo. The waters have nourished him. The abyss has exalted him. Its rivers have flowed around his roots, and it has sent forth its streams to all the trees of the regions.5Por eso superaba en altura a todos los árboles campestres; se multiplicaron sus ramas y se dilató su fronda, merced a la abundancia de las aguas en el período de su crecimiento. Because of this, his height was exalted above all the trees of the regions, and his groves were multiplied, and his own branches were elevated, because of the many waters.6En sus ramas anidaban todas las aves del cielo, debajo de su follaje parían todas las bestias del campo; y a su sombra habitaban todas las grandes naciones. And when he had extended his shadow, all the birds of the air made their nests in his branches, and all the beasts of the forest conceived their young under his foliage, and an assembly of the many peoples lived under his shadow.7Era hermoso por su grandeza y por la extensión de su ramaje, porque sus raíces se hallaban junto a abundantes aguas. And he was most beautiful in his greatness and in the expansion of his groves. For his root was near many waters.8No le igualaban los cedros en el jardín de Dios, los abetos no tenían copa semejante, y los plátanos no superaban su fronda; ningún árbol en el jardín de Dios le era igual en belleza. The cedars in the Paradise of God were not higher than he was. The spruce trees were not equal to his summit, and the plane trees were not equal to his fullness. No tree in the Paradise of God was similar to him or to his beauty.9Yo le había hecho hermoso por la muchedumbre de sus ramas, y le envidiaban todos los árboles del Edén, que estaban en el jardín de Dios. For I made him beautiful, and dense with many branches. And all the trees of delight, which were in the Paradise of God, were jealous of him.10Por eso, así dice Yahvé, el Señor: Porque se ha encumbrado en altura, elevando su copa hasta entre las nubes, y su corazón se ha ensoberbecido a causa de su altura, Because of this, thus says the Lord God: Since he was sublime in height, and he made his summit green and dense, and his heart was exalted because of his height,11le he entregado en manos del más poderoso entre las naciones, para que le tratara a su manera. A causa de su maldad lo he desechado. I have delivered him into the hands of the most powerful one among the Gentiles, so that he will deal with him. I have cast him out, in accord with his impiety.12Extranjeros, los más feroces de los pueblos, le cortaron y le dejaron tendido; sobre los montes y en todos los valles cayeron sus ramas, y en todos los torrentes de la tierra se halló su fronda destrozada. Y todos los pueblos de la tierra se retiraron de su sombra y le abandonaron. And foreigners, and the most cruel among the nations, will cut him down. And they will cast him on the mountains. And his branches will fall in every steep valley, and his grove will be broken apart on every cliff of the earth. For this reason, none of the trees among the waters will exalt themselves because of their height, nor will they place their summits above the thick branches and foliage, nor will any of those that are irrigated stand out because of their height. For they have all been delivered unto death, to the lowest part of the earth, into the midst of the sons of men, those who descend into the pit.15Así dice Yahvé, el Señor: El día en que bajó al scheol, ordené Yo un gran duelo; por él vestí de luto el abismo y detuve sus ríos; y se pararon las caudalosas aguas; por él enluté al Líbano, y se desmayaron todos los árboles del campo. Thus says the Lord God: In the day when he descended into hell, I led in grieving. I covered him with the abyss. And I held back its rivers, and I restrained the many waters. Lebanon was saddened over him, and all the trees of the field were struck together.16Con el estruendo de su caída hice temblar las naciones, cuando lo arrojé al scheol, con los que bajan a la fosa. Y se consolaron en lo profundo de la tierra todos los árboles del Edén, los más escogidos y hermosos del Líbano, todos los regados de agua. I shook the Gentiles with the sound of his ruin, when I led him down to hell, with those who were descending into the pit. And all the trees of delights, the finest and best in Lebanon, all that were irrigated with waters, were consoled in the deepest parts of the earth.17Estos también bajaron con él al scheol, hacia los que perecieron al filo de la espada; los cuales habían sido su brazo y habían habitado bajo su sombra, en medio de las naciones. For they, too, will descend with him into hell, to those who have been slain by the sword. And the arm of each one will reside under his shadow, in the midst of the nations.18¿A quién te igualas en gloria y grandeza, entre los árboles del Edén? Serás precipitado con los árboles del Edén a las profundidades de la tierra; yacerás entre los incircuncisos, con los pasados a cuchillo. Esto sucederá al Faraón y a toda su multitud” —oráculo del Señor, Yahvé. To whom can you be compared, O famous and sublime one, among the trees of pleasure? Behold, you have been brought down, with the trees of pleasure, to the lowest part of the earth. You will sleep in the midst of the uncircumcised, with those who have been slain by the sword. This is Pharaoh, and all his multitude, says the Lord God.”
