Génesis 15
1Después de estos acontecimientos habló Yahvé a Abram en una visión, diciendo: “No temas, Abram; Yo soy tu escudo, tu recompensa sobremanera grande.” And so, these things having been transacted, the word of the Lord came to Abram by a vision, saying: “Do not be afraid, Abram, I am your protector, and your reward is exceedingly great.”2Respondió Abram: “Adonai, Yahvé, ¿qué me vas a dar, si me voy sin hijo, y el heredero de mi casa será este damasceno Eliécer?” And Abram said: “Lord God, what will you give to me? I may go without children. And the son of the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus.”3Y repitió Abram: “Aquí me tienes, no me has dado descendencia, y así es que un hombre de mi casa me ha de heredar.” And Abram added: “Yet to me you have not given offspring. And behold, my servant born in my house will be my heir.”4Mas he aquí que Yahvé le habló, diciendo: “No te heredará este, sino que uno que saldrá de tus entrañas, ese te ha de heredar.” And immediately the word of the Lord came to him, saying: “This one will not be your heir. But he who will come from your loins, the same will you have for your heir.”5Y le sacó fuera, y dijo: “Mira el cielo, y cuenta las estrellas, si puedes contarlas”, y le agregó: “Así será tu descendencia.” And he brought him outside, and he said to him, “Take in the heavens, and number the stars, if you can.” And he said to him, “So also will your offspring be.”6Y creyó a Yahvé, el cual se lo reputó por justicia. Abram believed God, and it was reputed to him unto justice.7Díjole después: “Yo soy Yahvé que te saqué de Ur de los caldeos, a fin de darte esta tierra por herencia.” And he said to him, “I am the Lord who led you away from Ur of the Chaldeans, so as to give you this land, and so that you would possess it.”8Preguntó él: “Adonai, Yahvé, ¿en qué conoceré que he de heredarla?” But he said, “Lord God, in what way may I be able to know that I will possess it?”9Y le respondió: “Escógeme una novilla de tres años, un tórtola y un pichón.” And the Lord responded by saying: “Take for me a cow of three years, and a she-goat of three years, and a ram of three years, also a turtle-dove and a pigeon.”10Tomó entonces (Abram) todos estos (animales) y partiéndolos por el medio puso cada mitad en frente de la otra, pero sin partir las aves. Taking all these, he divided them through the middle, and placed both parts opposite one another. But the birds he did not divide.11Sobre estos cuerpos muertos bajaron las aves de rapiña, mas Abram las espantaba. And birds descended upon the carcasses, but Abram drove them away.12Y sucedió que estando ya el sol para ponerse, cayó sobre Abram un profundo sueño, y he aquí que le sobrevino un terror, una tiniebla muy grande. And when the sun was setting, a deep sleep fell upon Abram, and a dread, great and dark, invaded him.13Entonces dijo (Dios) a Abram: “Ten por cierto que tus descendientes vivirán como extranjeros en una tierra no suya, donde serán reducidos a servidumbre y oprimidos durante cuatrocientos años. And it was said to him: “Know beforehand that your future offspring will be sojourners in a land not their own, and they will subjugate them in servitude and afflict them for four hundred years.14Mas la nación a la cual han de servir, Yo la juzgaré; y después saldrán con grandes riquezas. Yet truly, I will judge the nation that they will serve, and after this they will depart with great substance.15Tú (entretanto) irás a tus padres en paz, y serás sepultado en buena ancianidad. But you will go to your fathers in peace and be buried at a good old age.16Mas a la cuarta generación volverán aquí; porque hasta el presente la maldad de los amorreos no ha llegado a su colmo.” But in the fourth generation, they will return here. For the iniquities of the Amorites are not yet completed, even to this present time.”17Y sucedió que, puesto ya el sol, apareció, en medio de densas tinieblas, un horno humeante y una antorcha de fuego que pasó por entre aquellos animales divididos. Then, when the sun had set, there came a dark mist, and there appeared a smoking furnace and a lamp of fire passing between those divisions.18En aquel día hizo Yahvé alianza con Abram, diciendo: “A tu descendencia he dado esta tierra, desde el río de Egipto hasta el río grande, el río Éufrates: On that day, God formed a covenant with Abram, saying: “To your offspring I will give this land, from the river of Egypt, even to the great river Euphrates:19los cineos, los ceneceos, los cadmoneos, the land of the Kenites and the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites20los heteos, los fereceos, los refaítas, and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, likewise the Rephaim,21los amorreos, los cananeos, los gergeseos y los jebuseos.” and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.”
