Génesis 18
1Apareciósele Yahvé (a Abrahán) en el encinar de Mamré mientras estaba sentado a la entrada de la tienda, durante el calor del día. Then the Lord appeared to him, in the steep valley of Mamre, when he was sitting at the door of his tent, in the very heat of the day.2Alzando los ojos miró, y he aquí que estaban parados delante de él tres varones. Tan pronto como los vio, corrió a su encuentro desde la entrada de su tienda, y postrándose en tierra And when he had lifted up his eyes, there appeared to him three men, standing near him. When he had seen them, he ran to meet them from the door of his tent, and he reverenced them on the ground.3dijo: “Señor mío, si he hallado gracia a tus ojos, te ruego no pases de largo junto a tu siervo. And he said: “If I, O lord, have found grace in your eyes, do not pass by your servant.4Permitid que se traiga un poco de agua; y lavaos los pies, y descansaos debajo del árbol. But I will bring a little water, and you may wash your feet and rest under the tree.5Traeré, entretanto, un bocado de pan, y fortaleceréis vuestros corazones; después pasaréis adelante; pues por eso habéis pasado delante de vuestro siervo.” And I will set out a meal of bread, so that you may strengthen your heart; after this you will pass on. It is for this reason that you have turned aside to your servant.” And they said, “Do as you have spoken.”6Fue, pues, Abrahán apresuradamente a la tienda, a Sara, y dijo: “¡Pronto, tres medidas de flor de harina; amasa y haz tortas!” Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah, and he said to her, “Quickly, mix together three measures of the finest wheat flour and make loaves baked under the ashes.”7Corrió Abrahán también a la vacada, tomó un ternero tierno y gordo, y lo dio a un mozo, el cual se apresuró a aderezarlo. In truth, he himself ran to the herd, and he took a calf from there, very tender and very good, and he gave it to a servant, who hurried and boiled it.8Después tomó requesón y leche y el ternero que había aderezado, y se lo puso adelante; y mientras comían, él se quedó de pie junto a ellos, bajo el árbol. Likewise, he took butter and milk, and the calf which he had boiled, and he placed it before them. Yet truly, he himself stood near them under the tree.9Preguntáronle: “¿Dónde está Sara, tu mujer?” “Ahí, en la tienda”, contestó él. And when they had eaten, they said to him, “Where is Sarah your wife?” He answered, “Behold, she is in the tent.”10Entonces dijo (Dios): “Volveré a ti sin falta, por este mismo tiempo, y he aquí que Sara, tu mujer, tendrá un hijo.” Entretanto Sara estaba escuchando a la entrada de la tienda, detrás de él. And he said to him, “When returning, I will come to you at this time, with life as a companion, and your wife Sarah will have a son.” Hearing this, Sarah laughed behind the door of the tent.11Porque Abrahán y Sara eran ancianos, de avanzada edad, y había cesado ya en Sara la costumbre de las mujeres. Now they were both old, and in an advanced state of life, and it had ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.12Se rió, pues Sara interiormente y dijo: “¿Con que siendo ya consumida he de tener deleite? Y también mi señor es viejo.” And she laughed secretly, saying, “After I have grown old, and my lord is elderly, shall I give myself to the work of delight?”13Entonces dijo Yahvé a Abrahán: “¿Por qué se ha reído Sara, diciendo?: ‘¿Será cierto que voy a dar a luz, siendo, como soy, vieja?’ Then the Lord said to Abraham: “Why did Sarah laugh, saying: ‘How can I, an old woman, actually give birth?’14¿Hay acaso para Yahvé cosa imposible? En el plazo señalado por este mismo tiempo, te visitaré otra vez, y Sara tendrá un hijo.” Is anything difficult for God? According to the announcement, he will return to you at this same time, with life as a companion, and Sarah will have a son.”15Pero Sara negó, diciendo: “No me he reído”; pues tenía miedo. Mas Él dijo: “No, que te has reído”. Sarah denied it, saying, “I did not laugh.” For she was terribly afraid. But the Lord said, “It is not so; for you did laugh.”16Levantáronse de allí los varones y se dirigieron hacia Sodoma, y Abrahán los acompañó para despedirlos. Therefore, when the men had risen up from there, they directed their eyes against Sodom. And Abraham traveled with them, leading them.17Entonces se dijo Yahvé: “¿He de encubrir a Abrahán lo que voy a hacer? And the Lord said: “How could I hide what I am about to do from Abraham,18Pues Abrahán ha de ser padre de una nación grande y fuerte y serán benditos en él todos los pueblos de la tierra. since he will become a great and very robust nation, and in him all the nations of the earth will be blessed?19Porque le he constituido para eso: que mande a sus hijos y a su casa después de él, guardar el camino de Yahvé, practicando la justicia y el derecho, a fin de que Yahvé haga venir sobre Abrahán lo que tiene prometido a su favor.” For I know that he will instruct his sons, and his household after him, to keep to the way of the Lord, and to act with judgment and justice, so that, for the sake of Abraham, the Lord may bring about all the things that he has spoken to him.”20Dijo, pues, Yahvé: “El clamor de Sodoma y Gomorra es grande, y sus pecados son extraordinariamente graves. And so the Lord said, “The outcry from Sodom and Gomorrah has been multiplied, and their sin has become exceedingly grievous.21Bajaré a comprobar si han hecho realmente según el clamor que ha llegado hasta Mí; y si no, lo sabré.” I will descend and see whether they have fulfilled the work of the outcry that has reached me, or whether it is not so, in order that I may know.”22Partieron, pues, de allí los varones, y se encaminaron hacia Sodoma; mas Abrahán permanecía todavía en pie delante de Yahvé. And they turned themselves from there, and they went toward Sodom. Yet in truth, Abraham still stood in the sight of the Lord.23Y acercándose dijo Abrahán: “¿Es así que vas a destruir al justo con el impío? And as they drew near, he said: “Will you destroy the just with the impious?24Quizás habrá cincuenta justos en la ciudad. ¿Los exterminarás acaso, y no perdonarás al lugar por los cincuenta justos que se hallaren allí? If there were fifty of the just in the city, will they perish with the rest? And will you not spare that place for the sake of fifty of the just, if they were in it?25¡Lejos de Ti obrar de esta manera, que hagas morir al justo con el impío, y que el justo y el malvado sean tratados del mismo modo! ¡Lejos eso de Ti! ¿Acaso el Juez de toda la tierra no ha de hacer justicia?” Far be it from you to do this thing, and to kill the just with the impious, and for the just to be treated like the impious. No, this is not like you. You judge all the earth; you would never make such a judgment.”26Dijo entonces Yahvé: “Si hallare en Sodoma cincuenta justos en la ciudad, perdonaré a todo el lugar por amor de ellos.” And the Lord said to him, “If I find in Sodom fifty of the just in the midst of the city, I will release the entire place because of them.”27Replicó Abrahán diciendo: “Mira, te ruego, me he atrevido a hablar al Señor, aunque soy polvo y ceniza. And Abraham responded by saying: “Since now I have begun, I will speak to my Lord, though I am dust and ashes.28Quizás falten de los cincuenta justos cinco; ¿destruirás por los cinco toda la ciudad?” Respondió: “No la destruiré, si hallare allí cuarenta y cinco.” What if there were five less than fifty of the just? Would you, despite the forty-five, eliminate the entire city?” And he said, “I will not eliminate it, if I find forty-five there.”29Y de nuevo le preguntó y dijo: “Quizás se encuentren allí cuarenta.” Contestó: “No lo haré por amor de los cuarenta.” And again he said to him, “But if forty were found there, what would you do?” He said, “I will not strike, for the sake of the forty.”30Dijo entonces: “No se irrite el Señor si sigo hablando. Quizás se hallen allí treinta.” Y respondió: “No lo haré si hallare allí treinta.” “I ask you,” he said, “not to be angry, Lord, if I speak. What if thirty were found there?” He responded, “I will not act, if I find thirty there.”31Prosiguió: “Mira, ya que he osado hablar al Señor: Quizás haya allí veinte.” Respondió: “No la destruiré por amor de los veinte.” “Since now I have begun,” he said, “I will speak to my Lord. What if twenty were found there?” He said, “I will not put to death, for the sake of the twenty.”32Te ruego, insistió; no se irrite el Señor si hablare una sola vez más: Quizás se encuentre allí diez.” “No la destruiré por amor de los diez”, contestó Él. “I beg you,” he said, “not to be angry, Lord, if I speak yet once more. What if ten were found there?” And he said, “I will not destroy it for the sake of the ten.”33Y se fue Yahvé, luego que acabó de hablar con Abrahán; y Abrahán volvió a su lugar. And the Lord departed, after he had ceased speaking to Abraham, who then returned to his place.
