Génesis 1
1Al principio creó Dios el cielo y la tierra. In the beginning, God created heaven and earth.2La tierra era confusión y caos, y tinieblas cubrían la faz del abismo, mas el Espíritu de Dios se movía sobre las aguas. But the earth was empty and unoccupied, and darknesses were over the face of the abyss; and so the Spirit of God was brought over the waters.3Y dijo Dios: “Haya luz”; y hubo luz. And God said, “Let there be light.” And light became.4Vio Dios que la luz era buena; y separó Dios la luz de las tinieblas. And God saw the light, that it was good; and so he divided the light from the darknesses.5Llamó Dios a la luz día, y a las tinieblas llamó noche. Y hubo tarde y hubo mañana: primer día. And he called the light, ‘Day,’ and the darknesses, ‘Night.’ And it became evening and morning, one day.6Después dijo Dios: “Haya un firmamento en medio de las aguas que separe unas aguas de otras”. God also said, “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide waters from waters.”7E hizo Dios el firmamento, y separó las aguas que estaban bajo el firmamento de las aguas que estaban sobre el firmamento. Y así fue. And God made a firmament, and he divided the waters that were under the firmament, from those that were above the firmament. And so it became.8Llamó Dios al firmamento cielo; y hubo tarde y hubo mañana: día segundo. And God called the firmament ‘Heaven.’ And it became evening and morning, the second day.9Y dijo Dios: “Júntense en un lugar las aguas que quedan bajo el cielo y aparezca lo seco”. Truly God said: “Let the waters that are under heaven be gathered together into one place; and let the dry land appear.” And so it became.10Llamó Dios a lo seco tierra, y a la reunión de las aguas llamó mares. Y vio Dios que estaba bien. And God called the dry land, ‘Earth,’ and he called the gathering of the waters, ‘Seas.’ And God saw that it was good.11Después dijo Dios: “Brote la tierra hierba verde, plantas que den semilla, árboles frutales que produzcan fruto según su especie y cuya semilla esté en ellos sobre la tierra”. Y así fue. And he said, “Let the land spring forth green plants, both those producing seed, and fruit-bearing trees, producing fruit according to their kind, whose seed is within itself, over all the earth.” And so it became.12Brotó, pues, la tierra hierba verde, plantas que tenían en sí semilla según su especie, y árboles que producían frutos y cuya semilla se hallaba en ellos según su especie. Y vio Dios que estaba bien. And the land brought forth green plants, both those producing seed, according to their kind, and trees producing fruit, with each having its own way of sowing, according to its species. And God saw that it was good.13Y hubo tarde y hubo mañana: día tercero. And it became evening and the morning, the third day.14Luego dijo Dios: “Haya lumbreras en el firmamento del cielo, que separen el día de la noche y sirvan de señales y (marquen) las estaciones, días y años. Then God said: “Let there be lights in the firmament of heaven. And let them divide day from night, and let them become signs, both of the seasons, and of the days and years.15Sirvan también de lumbreras en el firmamento del cielo para alumbrar la tierra”. Y así fue. Let them shine in the firmament of heaven and illuminate the earth.” And so it became.16Hizo, pues, Dios las dos grandes lumbreras: la lumbrera mayor para presidir el día, y la lumbrera menor para presidir la noche, y las estrellas. And God made two great lights: a greater light, to rule over the day, and a lesser light, to rule over the night, along with the stars.17Púsolas Dios en el firmamento del cielo para alumbrar la tierra, And he set them in the firmament of heaven, to give light over all the earth,18para regir el día y la noche y para separar la luz de las tinieblas. Y vio Dios que estaba bien. and to rule over the day as well as the night, and to divide light from darkness. And God saw that it was good.19Y hubo tarde y hubo mañana: día cuarto. And it became evening and morning, the fourth day.20Después dijo Dios: “Pululen las aguas multitud de seres vivientes; y vuelen aves sobre la tierra debajo del firmamento del cielo”. And then God said, “Let the waters produce animals with a living soul, and flying creatures above the earth, under the firmament of heaven.”21Y creó Dios los grandes monstruos marinos, y todos los seres vivientes que marchan arrastrándose, de los cuales hierven las aguas, según su especie; y toda ave alada según su especie. Y vio Dios que estaba bien. And God created the great sea creatures, and everything with a living soul and the ability to move that the waters produced, according to their species, and all the flying creatures, according to their kind. And God saw that it was good.22Y Dios los bendijo, diciendo: “Sed fecundos y multiplicaos y henchid las aguas en los mares; y multiplíquense las aves sobre la tierra”. And he blessed them, saying: “Increase and multiply, and fill the waters of the sea. And let the birds be multiplied above the land.”23Y hubo tarde y hubo mañana: día quinto. And it became evening and morning, the fifth day.24Luego Dios dijo: “Produzca la tierra seres vivientes según su especie: animales domésticos, reptiles, bestias salvajes, según su especie”. Y así fue. God also said, “Let the land produce living souls in their kind: cattle, and animals, and wild beasts of the earth, according to their species.” And so it became.25Hizo, pues, Dios las bestias salvajes según su especie, y los animales domésticos según su especie, y todo reptil de la tierra según su especie. Y vio Dios que estaba bien. And God made the wild beasts of the earth according to their species, and the cattle, and every animal on the land, according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.26Después dijo Dios: “Hagamos al hombre a imagen nuestra, según nuestra semejanza; y domine sobre los peces del mar y las aves del cielo, sobre las bestias domésticas, y sobre toda la tierra y todo reptil que se mueve sobre la tierra”. And he said: “Let us make Man to our image and likeness. And let him rule over the fish of the sea, and the flying creatures of the air, and the wild beasts, and the entire earth, and every animal that moves on the earth.”27Y creó Dios al hombre a imagen suya; a imagen de Dios lo creó; varón y mujer los creó. And God created man to his own image; to the image of God he created him; male and female, he created them.28Los bendijo Dios; y les dijo Dios: “Sed fecundos y multiplicaos, y henchid la tierra y sometedla; y dominad sobre los peces del mar y las aves del cielo, y sobre todos los animales que se mueven sobre la tierra”. And God blessed them, and he said, “Increase and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and the flying creatures of the air, and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.”29Después dijo Dios: “He aquí que Yo os doy toda planta portadora de semilla sobre la superficie de toda la tierra, y todo árbol en que hay fruto de árbol con semilla, para que os sirvan de alimento. And God said: “Behold, I have given you every seed-bearing plant upon the earth, and all the trees that have in themselves the ability to sow their own kind, to be food for you,30Y a todos los animales de la tierra, y a todas las aves del cielo, y a todo lo que se mueve sobre la tierra, que tiene en sí aliento de vida, les doy para alimento toda hierba verde”. Y así fue. and for all the animals of the land, and for all the flying things of the air, and for everything that moves upon the earth and in which there is a living soul, so that they may have these on which to feed.” And so it became.31Vio Dios todo cuanto había hecho; y he aquí que estaba muy bien. Y hubo tarde y hubo mañana: día sexto. And God saw everything that he had made. And they were very good. And it became evening and morning, the sixth day.
