Génesis 34

And when Shechem, the son of Hamor the Hivite, the leader of that land, had seen her, he fell in love with her. And so he seized her and slept with her, overwhelming the virgin by force.3Y se prendó de Dina, hija de Jacob, de tal manera que se enamoró de la joven y le habló al corazón. But when Jacob had heard this, since his sons were absent and he was occupied in pasturing the cattle, he remained silent until they came back.6Entretanto, Hemor, padre de Siquem fue a ver a Jacob para hablar con él. And so Hamor spoke to them: “The soul of my son Shechem has become attached to your daughter. And Shechem even said to her father and to her brothers: “May I find favor in your sight, and whatever you will appoint, I will give.12Exigidme mucha dote y muchos dones; yo daré cuanto me digáis; pero dadme a la joven por mujer.” Increase the dowry, and request gifts, and I will freely bestow what you will ask. Only give me this girl as a wife.”13Los hijos de Jacob respondieron a Siquem y a Hemor, su padre, hablando con dolo, por cuanto había violado a Dina su hermana, The sons of Jacob answered Shechem and his father with deceit, being enraged at the rape of their sister:14y les dijeron: “No podemos hacer eso de dar nuestra hermana a un hombre incircunciso; porque sería para nosotros una deshonra. “We are not able to do what you ask, nor to give our sister to an uncircumcised man. For us, this is unlawful and abominable.15Solo con esta condición podremos acceder a vuestro deseo: si consentís en ser como nosotros, circuncidando a todo varón de entre vosotros. But we may succeed in this, so as to be allied with you, if you are willing to become like us, and if all the male sex among you will be circumcised.16Entonces os daremos nuestras hijas, y nos tomaremos vuestras hijas; y habitaremos con vosotros, formando un solo pueblo. Then we will mutually give and receive your daughters as well as ours; and we will live with you, and we will become one people.17Pero, si no queréis escucharnos y no os circuncidáis, tomaremos a nuestra hija y nos iremos.” But if you will not be circumcised, we will take our daughter and withdraw.”18Parecieron bien sus palabras a Hemor y a Siquem, hijo de Hemor; Their offer pleased Hamor and his son Shechem.19y no tardó el joven en hacer aquello, porque estaba prendado de la hija de Jacob; y era él el más distinguido de toda la casa de su padre. Neither did the young man cause any delay; in fact he immediately fulfilled what was requested. For he loved the girl very much, and he was well-known throughout his father’s house.20Luego fueron Hemor y Siquem, su hijo, a la puerta de su ciudad, y hablaron con los hombres de la ciudad, diciendo: And entering at the gate of the city, they spoke to the people:21“Estos hombres son pacíficos con nosotros; habiten, pues, en el país y lo recorran. He aquí que el país es suficientemente largo y ancho para ellos. Tomaremos a sus hijas por mujeres y les daremos nuestras hijas. “These men are peaceful, and they want to live among us. Let them trade in the land and cultivate it, for, being spacious and broad, it is in need of cultivation. We will receive their daughters as wives, and we will give them ours.22Pero los hombres solo querrán consentir en habitar con nosotros y formar un mismo pueblo con tal que se circuncide todo varón de entre nosotros, así como ellos son circuncisos. There is one thing that prevents so great a good: whether we will circumcise our males, imitating the ritual of their nation.23Entonces sus ganados y sus riquezas y todas sus bestias, ¿no serán nuestros?, tan solo accedamos a sus deseos; y así habitarán con nosotros.” And their substance, and cattle, and all that they possess, will be ours, if only we will acquiesce to this, and so, in living together, will form one people.”24Asintieron a Hemor y a Siquem, su hijo, todos los que venían a la puerta de su ciudad; y se circuncidaron todos los varones que venían a la puerta de su ciudad. And they all agreed to circumcise every one of the males.25Mas al tercer día, cuando sintieron los dolores, dos de los hijos de Jacob, Simeón y Leví, hermanos de Dina, tomaron cada uno su espada, y en plena paz entraron en la ciudad, y mataron a todos los varones. And behold, on the third day, when the pain of the wound was greatest, two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, the brothers of Dinah, boldly entered the city with swords. And they put to death all of the males.26Mataron también a Hemor y a Siquem, su hijo, al filo de espada; y tomando a Dina de la casa de Siquem se volvieron. They killed Hamor and Shechem together, taking their sister Dinah from the house of Shechem.27Después los hijos de Jacob se arrojaron sobre los muertos y saquearon la ciudad, por cuanto habían violado a su hermana. And when they had departed, the other sons of Jacob rushed over the slain, and they plundered the city in vengeance for the rape.28Tomaron sus ovejas, sus vacadas y sus asnos; todo lo que había en la ciudad y lo que había en el campo. Taking their sheep, and herds, and donkeys, and laying waste to everything else that was in their houses and in their fields,29Se llevaron como botín todos sus bienes, a todos sus niños y a sus mujeres, y todo cuanto había en las casas. they also took their little ones and their wives captive.30Dijo entonces Jacob a Simeón y Leví: “Me habéis desconcertado, haciéndome odioso a los moradores de esta tierra, a los cananeos y los fereceos; y no tengo sino poca gente; se juntarán contra mí y me matarán; y seré destruido yo y mi casa.” When they had boldly completed these acts, Jacob said to Simeon and Levi: “You have troubled me, and you have made me hateful to the Canaanites and the Perizzites, the inhabitants of this land. We are few. They, gathering themselves together, may strike me down, and then both I and my house will be wiped away.”31Le respondieron: “¿Debió él tratar a nuestra hermana como a una prostituta?” They responded, “Should they abuse our sister like a prostitute?”
